Centerpieces in Mexico
2009bride replied to 2009bride's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
I heard of Walmart and Costco in Cancun but I would be in HEAVEN if they had a Michaels or AC Moore store down there. I love those stores, they have EVERYTHING I would need for beautiful centerpieces. Heather007, that would be great, please let me know what you find out, thanks a million! -
Hi all! I'm getting married at the Barcelo Riviera Maya May 2009 and am stressing out a little on centerpiece ideas. I would like to create my own instead of using what the resort offers but I don't want to deal with the hassle of traveling with everything and risking things breaking (vases, glass, etc). Does anyone know if there's any arts & crafts stores around the Riviera Maya/Cancun area where I can buy everything that I need instead of buying it here in the U.S.? All I need is a Michaels or AC Moore store and I'm good. Please if anyone knows if there's any of these 2 stores in the area, let me know!! Thanks!!

Yeah, I would love to see pics of that beach reception site. Also, does anyone have pics on what the set up looks like for the COCKTAIL HOUR on the beach? I'm getting the Ocean Scents wedding package which includes the "set up" fee for this but would like to know what is actually provided. If anyone can post pics or pm me I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

The grill at the palace no longer available for receptions?? That sux! I think you're talking about the Coral Grill. I hope they don't convert the Mariachi Grill to an a la carte restaurant as well! Davematthews16, how you describe the beach reception location is great! Would you happen to have any pics of what that area looks like? eblum999, it's great to know someone else from Jersey getting married at the Barcelo. ;-) I'm in the northern area in Bergen County. Feel free to pm me for anything

Oh and by the way, I'm getting married at the Barcelo Colonial in May 2009. eblum999, I noticed that you're from New Jersey - me too!! What part? I'm kinda new to this forum thing and I have tons of questions about getting married in Mexico so I'm looking forward to lots of responses when I start posting more questions soon! ;-)

Hey morenaindc , I'm sorry if I might've missed it but what do you mean when you say that the grill is not available for your reception? Is it possible for someone to book so far out in advance or the grill is just not available for receptions anymore? How many grills do they have? I know of 2 - the Coral Grill and the Mariachi Grill. Neither are available?

Back from my wedding at the Barcelo Maya

Hey Margaret, What kind of ceremoney did you have? I'm thinking about having a nonlegal ceremony but I'm not sure how that works - if I do that I would want none of my guests to know that we didn't get "officially" married there. Wonder if someone would find out or know the difference somehow. Also, I'm staying at the Colonial. Just wondering.. if I decided to have my ceremony/reception at the Palace if that could be accomodated. Probably not but in case you know let me know. Thanks! -

I really love how your wedding flowed through so nicely and hope that mine will be the same! Can I ask you another question - did you find that when you got there things added up in cost more quickly? Any hidden fees that you weren't aware of? I'm doing my budget and am getting a little nervous that it might exceed what I can afford if I come across "unexpected" costs. I don't want to go over spending $10k on this wedding. I have about 30/40 guests.. do you think that's a reasonable number? -

Margaret, Was the cocktail hour at the Captain Morgan bar private for your guests? I'm asking because your pics looked like it was private for your guests on the terrace yet my WC told me that after 7 is when I can have it private. I'm a little confused. My ceremony will be at 5. Having cocktail hour at 7 seems like too much of a wait. -

I love the vibe of where you guys had the cocktail hour - looks so much fun! What was the name of this spot? And was your ceremony at where you stayed in the resort - the Palace? -

OMG Margaret, I saw your pictures and they're absolutely beautiful!!! Looks like everyone had a blast! I'm very excited with my decision now.. I booked for next May at the Barcelo Maya! I have some questions that I hope you can answer.. 1) Where was your cocktail hour held at? Everybody walked to the location right after the wedding or was there a wait for this? 2) How was the transition from the ceremony to cocktail hour to the reception? 3) How were you able to book the Mariachi grill (close the place out) for your reception? I'm assuming it was private for your guests or were there other hotel guests there as well? I think I'm having about 40 guests.. I'm wondering if that's enough to close out one of their restaurants/grills for us. I'm a little nervous about getting a banquet hall cause it looks rather plain.. no decorations, just a room. 4) Do you by any chance know what options there are for the location of the ceremony if it rains ? I saw a picture of a hut that Ana sent me, but I'm not really crazy about it. Thanks! -
Hi everyone!!! So... I'm just beginning to plan my wedding for next year in May. I think I'm deciding on getting married at Barcelo Maya in Riviera Maya, Mexico. I would LOVE to meet people who have been married here or will be getting married here to get more information on the place. Looking forward to this new adventure..
