  1. KLC- I agree that it is expensive. Their rates are higher in general. FI and I have sort of agreed that we will deal with what we can becuase we seemed tio have narrowed it down to PRC and one other. The official decision will be made when I go there next week. It seems like everytime I compare it to others it still wions in my book. don't get me wrong though some of their amenities are SUPER rediculous. My favorite so far is $1100 for 45 mins of Mariachi !?!
  2. I think that it will be great! Everything will be new and gorgeous. You certainly did your research so I think you can rest assured. I think I might check it out because we have become so crazy that the only place that we are going to look at is Paradisus and possibly Barcelo Colonial. We keep "narrowing down" and have basically gotten rid of other options becuase we are picky.. (!)
  3. The Sensatori is the one that is being built correct? Were you able to see pics? As far as pricing is it the same as Azul beach? I love that one but it's adult only and I need something that can acommodate some 14 year olds. I would love to see any pics that you have. We seem to have somewhat similar tastes. Thanks!
  4. I actually could not find a registry on the knot or wedding channel. One little piece that I left out was that when I realized that I would not be able to travel to the wedding I emailed the BM and left her a voicemail and an email (she was the one who was throwing the shower that weekend so I had her info..) BUT she never got back to me! I asked if she could let me know where she had a baby registry and I never got a response. So.. I will send a generous baby gift that I chose when I knew that I couldn't go and a wedding card. Done and done. Thanks ladies!
  5. Thanks Morgan! This is super helpful to us that have not started even thinking about the dress.
  6. Thanks ladies. I appreciate the input. That was my instinct- I guess I just wanted to make sure.
  7. I like giving gifts. When people move I do a little housewarming gift, when they are preggers I do a little gift for the mama etc.. so I would love your input on this. I was unable to attend a DW in Florida a month ago becuase I am a full time grad student and could not miss class and finals etc and it was on a Thursday. I was osyched that after 8 yrs together the couple was tying the knot and really would have loved to have been there. But... I was also surprised to get an invitation to begin with because I have not seen the bride and groom in over two years. They are old friends from work and I knew them both when they were single but I was never super close with either. We don't speak much on the phone and really only communicate through facebook and email every now and then. I did visit them once when they first left NY for Fla. Oh- the bride is also pregnant. I bought a baby gift and a wedding card for them but haven't mailed it yet becuase I am sort of stressing on whether or not to give them some money in the card for their wedding as well as the baby gift. I have no idea if they were registered becuase I think I threw out their wedding invite when I realized I wasn't going to attend. Since they are not super close friends fo you think that it's okay to to send the baby gift and $50 in their card or is that tacky. Usually when I attend a wedding I would give $125-$150 but this is not the case. Also, should I give them a check or a gift card? I was thinking Target or something simple like that so they can do whatever they want with it. In an ideal world I would search out a perfect cute sentimental wedding gift for them in that price range but I just don't have the time right now. What would you do keeping in mind that they are not close friends?
  8. Michelle, Your day is almost here! I hope everything runs super smoothe for you at the Paradisus and that you have gorgeous weather. Best wishes! I'll look forward to a review when you come back. Enjoy it!
  9. I am in agreement with these ladies. I think that it depends on the couple. Personally, We have become even closer since we have been living together and the communication has improved because you can't escape from the "issue" so to speak. I felt like when we wereb't living together I was able to go home and we could discuss it tomorrow. Now- it's all discussed before going to bed. I also feel that you learn alot about your partner and yourself by being in the situation. I also have friends that opted not to officially live together before tying the knot and they said it was like playing house for the whole first year. They are advocates so I think it can go both ways. I was getting annoyed at having 1/2 my stuff at his place and 1/2 at mine and having to get up at 6 am before work to trek home etc...
  10. Morgan this is all wonderful! You did an awesome job and your guests are going to love it. I also am planning on doing lots of stuff myself. It adds a personal touch and saves you money! I have always loved crafts though.... I am just getting started with STD's though. Great job!
  11. Ok. it's definately too early to be crying this much but it is beautiful. Gosh... my wedding is so far away and I am getting so excited for it. All these ideas.. !
  12. cute! They are great photos. Everyone is right. The colors are amazing.
  13. aeroo- did you have your ceremony/reception at the Royal or at the Gran porto? I'm still deciding and after reading these posts the Royal sounds pretty good.
  14. I am not a dreams bride but just wanted to offer a suggestion. Try checking all the dreams posts in the "accomodations" section. Or you could just enter dreams cancun or whichever you are dealing with in the search field. I have read a bunch of dreams posts and it seems like many work with the coordinators on site. I only know this from reading- so maybe someone else will chime in on this but if you are eager try checking that out. There are TONS of dreams brides on here and lots of useful info. At one point I was looking at dreams Tulum which is why I know. Sorry I couldn't answer but just thought I would suggest this-I know how eager we brides can be (me) for an answer! good luck with it.
  15. That hair is hot! You are going to look awesome. Great job!
  16. Congrats! You guys are so adoreable. Great pics!
  17. My FI works in the IT dept for a hedge fund. He went to school for Meteorology and creative writing and ended up working for a couple of financial companies and ended up where he is now. We are really blessed because he lkes his job! He has really been able to use his knowledge of certain things for the analysts. It really just works for him. Great benefits and one of the reasons that graduate school has not been impossible for me. The downside- The ever buzzing blackberry!
  18. I can understand your worry and concern for your guests wanting to back out. The reality is that robberies and murders happen everywhere (unfortunately) and I feel that usually there is a side of teh story that we are not getting. Drugs, a barfight- several things could have started this. I di think that with older people like parents and other family members that may attend the wedding there is a major fear factor when travelling to another country- especially one like mexico. Movies and media depict latin countries like my families (Colombia)to be uber dangerous. Which it can be if you are dumb and starting trouble or trying to smuggle drugs. Maybe a conversation about their fears will help put them at ease. Regardless it sucks that you have to deal with this 4 months before your weddding. I'm sorry! News like this can be defiantely be scary. I hope that your guests realize that these crimes happen to people all over the world and are rarely random and senseless.
  19. Amazing sister! I cried and it makes me miss my lil sis. Sisters are the best!
  20. The dress is GORGEOUS! YOu are going to look beautiful Congrats how exciting.
  21. Welcome! I am also a May 2009 bride. Happy Planning!
  22. It looks great but I personally would like something around the initials. The water idea is great or maybe making it a little bolder. The rest of it is so vibrant. It's a really beautiful piece and a nice tribute to your dad.
  23. Ah yes.. This is why I do yoga or I would be oushing everyone in my way in NYC. When I am in whole foods I have to find a "happy place" and I wear my headphones and just think happy thoughts.
  24. I used to be an actress/waitress and made around $50,000 when I was working a lot. I wanted a career change and Now... I am a full time graduate student getting my MA in Drama therapy. I waitress part time which can be lucrative here in NYC but it is horrid and I hate it. So the past year has been a huge year full of change both financially and emotionally. Next week I start my UNPAID internship and I will eventually have to stop working all together. The student loans pile up but it's worth the type of work that I will eventually be able to do. It's very challenging and exciting. Eventually I would like to have a private practice.. we'll see where my journey takes me to next.
  25. I fully agree with Paula V. I am also a Spanish speaker and the google translation is a little literal. Your guests would definately get by with it but it may be slightly awkward. GO with Paula V's suggestions they are correct. That's a cute idea!
