Welcome to the forum, Kelsie! And congrats on choosing to have a Destination Wedding!

Hi everyone! I am a bit obsessed with pink myself. I want to have light pink and hot pink flowers and possibly white. Right now I'm thinking of hot pink BM dresses with them holding white bouquets and me having a pink bouquet, but I'm not sure if that'll work. I know I need another colour. Having said that, I dug up some really great colour palette boards from this site called Style me Pretty - here. And now, for your viewing pleasure: Beautiful pink and green colour palette: Another more cute pink and green palette: Bright fuschia and orange Hot pink, blue and green: Pinks, reds and oranges

I just got back from a DW on the East coast that took place in a park in a gazebo and I couldn't hear a thing. It was one of the most annoying experiences ever... now I'm all paranoid about our wedding.

Now I'm wondering if our wedding on the beach will have microphones. I think it must be worse not to be able to hear a ceremony than to hear it through a microphone...

I think I felt obligated to do it because I had never contemplated any other kind of life (father's a prof, grandfather's a prof, uncle's a prof, etc. you get the picture). I still really miss part of it (can you tell?), but I'm so much happier out of school, that I'm sure I made the right decision for me right now. Wow - sorry if that was TMI! I feel like I should be lying on a couch right now and watching the clock! You girls are like therapy sometimes!

The MOH's little son. Isn't he adorable? Getting emotional after the ceremony. She had really pretty white/green orchids in her hair: The reception was at the Halifax Club - a very old club that was really beautiful. Linens were gorgeous... not sure if you can tell from this pic. It was a very no-frills wedding. Very suited to the couple. FI and I had a good time on the dance floor, trying to dance salsa and meringue to regular songs. Me and the bride. I look huge compared to her. She's so tiny! Must-get-reduction! (and lose pounds...) Me on the flight home. Phew! It was fun

Still waiting... The bride walked alone: The worst thing was that we could not hear the ceremony at all! I've never been so frustrated.... I'm not sure if it was because it was outside and there was background noise or if they were speaking really quietly, but it was so frustrating She looked beautiful though.

It would have been fun to go on one of these shark fishing tours... Me and FI in Mahone Bay, near Lunenberg: FI, sick of all the shopping I was doing... LOL! And finally... the wedding.... Waiting at the gazebo for the bride...

So I got back from a fun mini-holiday to Halifax, on the East coast, on Sunday. FI and I went to a friend's DW out there! It was a great excuse to go do some sightseeing and have some time on our own. We flew Porter airlines from Ottawa, which was fab - free food and alcohol (!) - as it's a relatively new charter airline. We arrived on Thursday and picked up our rental car (which was enormous) and drove to Lunenberg. I've always wanted to go there. It was so romantic... Cute little horses - horse rides around town with people wearing top hats... LOL! FI standing outside one of the souvenir shops, right overlooking the water Me, fiddling with Corel Paint Shop Pro - a pic of the harbour and it was really foggy:

I've seen many students do it & as long as their advisor is supportive it works out fine. but, other phd programs are different. I guess I shouldn't have said science because that includes so much. Lab research science. Have to put my 2 cents in here: I was working on a PhD in Medieval Studies a few years ago. I did 3 1/2 years and then left. It nearly drove me crazy. There is no way in hell I could have had a baby while in that program. Arts are very different. It's so much harder to have a structured PhD life in Arts. That said, I knew a couple who were both in the same PhD program as me and they had a baby while in their 3rd year. The girl finished her thesis at year 4 while also teaching a course and looking after her baby and the husband has just completed his now (probably at this point it's his 6th year). I think he took a year off first with the baby. So, my opinion would be it depends a lot on what kind of structure your program has. And if it's like Morgan's, get all the courses and stuff out of the way first, because that's usually the more time-bonkers type of work.

Shower Gift Opening Ettiquette
kevsgirl replied to Banana11's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
I was just talking with someone else at the office about this today and she mentioned that her friend didn't open those gifts that were only in envelopes. I have to say that I think that's probably best, IMHO, becuase sometimes there's actually cash in the envelope and that's just not good = it's a bit awkward in front of everyone to even show that there's cash vs. a card or a cheque. Better to have a little basket for card/envelopes and then only open those cards that are actually attached to gifts, along with the gifts, in front of people. -
We bought a large frame with a large matte surrounding the place for the picture. We'll put a picture of us in it for the wedding and guests will sign with a black felt pen. Later, we'll add one of our wedding pics to the frame and hang it in the house I got a Debbie Travis frame at Canadian Tire. Thought the matted frames specifically for weddings were really jacked up in price Davematthews - I love those platters too = great idea!

Have a wonderful time together - enjoy yourselves as much as possible. You're going to get married in Fiji! Have you ever been there? It's spectacular. I hope you're able to relax a lot and just enjoy eachother. You've set things in motion, but not much you can really do until you get back, so make the most of it! We'll all be waiting on here when you get back to hear about your travels!

That's good! If it works for you, it's the same thing ultimately. I thought about doing the BIggest Loser, but then realized I didn't want too much going on. I weighed in last Tuesday after being very good and was down 1.5 lbs. BUT this weekend we were away in Halifax for a friend's DW, so I'm dreading lunch hour today when we have our class

Congratulations!!! That's so sweet and perfect to have gotten pregnant on your honeymoon. I gather you guys were just starting to try?

Thanks for the advice. I feel a lot more relaxed now
