Packing Gown for Airplane
kevsgirl replied to Opice34's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Done! Well, I just emailed the WC at Shangri-La (my resort) to ask if they have a steamer on site. I am arriving on Sunday night and the wedding is on Friday, so I could conceivably bring it into town if necessary during the week. Am I nuts to think I might just be able to hang it in the bathroom and turn the shower on? -

I don't know how I'm going to incorporate it yet, but maybe on the drinks menu. I'll take a pic tonight of the programs and some of my stuff, I promise! I'm just afraid of going to a random one (tho I got my dress from city 2 hours away so would like to not have to drive back there for alterations) & if they aren't familiar with the designer of my dress, you think there could be issues with my alterations? I just bought my dress in October, so I went to the seamstress about 2 weeks ago. I think you shoudl go ASAP. The usually want about a month lead time. I'm sure they can do it in the time you've got, but better safe than sorry! The store I bought my dress from had a few seamstresses they recommend. They gave me one woman's card because she had great reviews and lived near to me. She works from her basement, but has been doing dresses for 15 years. I don't think it necessarily matters if they know your designer, but more experience. In my situation, she has experience altering really large dresses and doing mega bustles... I'm ending up with 6 or 7....! What does your dress look like Quote: Originally Posted by niels408 Also, you know what sucks! But now I know it was just bloating. I hope it's good when I go for my 2nd fitting on the 15th.. Quote: Originally Posted by NJ_bride Hi Ladies! So I had a really fun and productive weekend. The best part of my weekend is that I recieved a phone call yesterday that my friend and her boyfriend booked for my wedding. Talk about an awesome weekend, NJ bride! You are so on the ball, it's kind of worrying me! Glad to hear such a positive review of MAC. A coworker told me to go there today and said she used them for her wedding and they don't always make people up to look as freaky as the store workers look. Great news too about all the stuff you accomplished and your bf coming! AND your weight! You're doing great!

Michelle - I don't even know if there will be a steamer at my resort. It's not a big all-inclusive one. I don't even know if they have irons and ironing boards in the rooms! It doesn't have tv's! I'll definitely email my WC and ask her if they have a steaming machine and if they can do that for my dress. I was just thinking that if I could get it to Mexico with a minimal amount of wrinkles I could just hang it up in the shower and run the shower. Then again, it's a pretty freaking crazy dress, so maybe I'll need it professionally steamed. Crap! -
Linens N' Things Closing Up Shop

I went as soon as they announced their bankruptcy, but nothing was on sale. Just last night I went over and they're at 10-30% off. I guess if I wait another week the sales may get better... too bad they just don't go 50%-80% off for a day and then shut down. They'd probably liquidate faster if that's what they were to do! -

I've decided I'll live without them for the OOT bags. FI and I wre going to drive down to the U.S. yesterday and just didnt have the energy. It's ok... That's great news about your seamstress! I'm happy with mine (in terms of feeling she'll do a great job), but not so happy about the timelines. I called her back today and told her I couldn't come tomorrow, so I'm back on for the 15th for my second fitting. Yahoo! The longer it takes her, the closer it will be to fitting me on the big day. I worked on our programs tonight. I went out to Michael's to buy programs, but decided to make our own. They're alright. Tomorrow I'll do a real mock up one (spray glue, etc.) and post pics.

How much is your wedding costing you?
kevsgirl replied to BeautifulBridetoBe's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
We approached our budget by looking at what we wanted and then what we thought was 'reasonable' (for us) for each part of the budget. We came up with about $8,000. I was hoping for $5-6K, but that wasn't realistic for us. As it is, right now we're approaching $11,000. This is for a wedding at a semi-inclusive resort (we'll have to pay for drinks and all lunches), several trips for the two of us, our airfare and accomodation, all other wedding related costs (dress, suits, OOT bags, etc.). We have gone over budget on a few things, namely: - my second dress ... but I'm SO happy I bought a different one - we just bought a camcorder. We'd budgeted $800 total, but we bought a better, High Definition one today and with a 4-yr warranty, ect. the total was about $1,000. We have so much left to buy. It's going to be a brutal month! -
For the shorties in the house..
kevsgirl replied to yamille's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I've been having issues with the hemming of my dress b/c of my height. I'm nearly 5'3" and I want to be barefoot for the ceremony, but I have 2 pairs of shoes: one pair are flats with a mini heel about 3/4" and the other is about 1 3/4". When the seamstress hemmed to barefoot and then asked me to put on the 2nd pair of shoes you could totally see them... so she's going to hem to the shoe length. Now I'm worried about tripping while in the sand! Quote: Originally Posted by Fanny Glad to come upon this post! It should end up about at my waist. Any longer and I was worried it would make me look uber-short! -
Oh no! That's the worst!!! I have a few friends who are hairdressers and as much as they don't want their clients to be upset they would way rather you tell them so that they can do something to make you happy and fix it than that you just cry at home and never tell them... I know you hate the way it looks and feel like your hair is all gone, but I'm sure that there is a great short hair style that will look beautiful on you and suit your face. You just have to go back there and ask them to do something else to fix it so that you're happy with it and it complements your features. At this point, as you have nothing really to lose, I'd just go back in and ask them to do something that really will make you look amazing. I'm not suggesting you go super short, but I had a pixie cut for 5 years and I loved it and everyone thought it looked great on me. I'm sure something will be done to make you happier and more confident. It's a whole new look. You just have to get to the point where you are finding it fun!

I've been worrying abuot this too. I have heard from many people that if you just ask them to put it in their closet, they will. I've also heard it's prudent to call ahead of time. My fear is that if I call ahead of time, they can pull the whole "it's against the rules" card and not be nice... I hope so badly that we have nice flight attendants and they have room and that there aren't 4 other brides on the plane! I will be so upset if I have to roll mine up and stuff it into the overhead bin. It's way too big for that. -
Phew! Simistar - I LOVE your stuff. It looks great! Did you just make up your own templates or buy something? I am wondering how I'm going to do everything... I'm starting to stresS! I work at United Way and we often get tons of things given to us for our donors/volunteers. Sometimes there are extras. Those tickets were extras and I won them among the staff. One of the perks of working for very little money for a charity I was so tired though I just passed out last night. I came home at around 5pm, crawled into bed and slept til 9:30! Skipped dinner completely. Then I was chatting to poor FI who was trying to sleep! We just got bac kfrom a full day of driving around picking stuff up. Bought: - Aloe (for OOT bags) - Sudoku and word puzzles (OOT) - place cards (Martha Stewart - eyelet ones). I decided not to make them from scratch as I have too much to do - tissue paper (coloured) for favor boxes - Hershey kisses (for favor boxes) I also looked at Pier 1 but they didn't have those beach mats And I tried to get programs that are all ready to print on, but couldn't find any I've got to go do that tomorrow. AND My seamstress called and asked if I could come in on Monday for 2nd fitting. WTF? It' slike she is trying to get me to do my dress totally as early as possible. It's stressing me out! I want to have her fit me closer to my WD. Am I nuts I told her I could come Monday, but I might call her tomorrow and back out and just say that we'll have to keep to the 15th (our original appointment for the 2nd fitting). I also went to the gym this morning and did week 3 of the learn to run. Phew! I made it through! I was pretty proud of myself I have to take pics for you girls of my OOT bags. I really like them I have to iron about 10 more tomorrow.

Different coloured organza bags?

I think you should just get one bag per tote for one of your items. Otherwise IMHO it's overkill. Stop driving yourslef nuts! -

kevsgirl replied to heather007's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
CRAP IS RIGHT! They are really nice... damnit! I just ended up winning 4 auction items today too (United Way staff auction - random stuff I didn't really need, but is nice - webcam, gift certs, days off, etc.), for a total of nearly 300$. My FI is gonna kill me if I buy much more... -

I already have all of my wedding gear for myself & FI as well as all of the outfits for our wedding weekend & honeymoon so I think this last push will allow me to enjoy these last few weeks of getting married & focus on being in perfect wedding day shape. Did I mention I'm having my bachelorette party on Saturday? So it's going to be a crazy & fun weekend. I'm really excited!!! That's awesome!!! I hope you have a great time tomorrow night I have a 2 day shower weekend coming up on the 22-23... my friends are throwing me one on Sunday and then FMIL decided she wanted to throw one too for all the family (who aren't invited) from MOntreal. Should be fun though! The last weekend in Nov is my bachelorette. I'm getting excited! As to thsi weekend: I won hockey tickets yesterday, but gave them to FI and a friend. Tonight I won Celine Dion tickets but gave them to a friend. I wanted to take it easy. I ended up sleeping from 5pm to 9pm. It's going to be hard to get to sleep tonight! Tomorrow morning I'm starting week 3 of a learn to run program (podcast) at the gym and then FI and I are going to drive down to the U.S. and get some stuff for the OOT bags. Sunday is going to be cleaning the house big-time and family dinner. Pretty slow quiet weekend. Just the way I need it now! Oh I'm also formalizing everything with the WC at the Shangri-La so that we're all on the same page (picking our cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, flowers, etc.) Have a great weekend!

Shoe extravaganza!
kevsgirl replied to kevsgirl's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Thanks everyone!!! I got some great deals from Amazon.com... FI's shoes are cool too, but they're a bit tight on him, so I have to look into if I can exchange them... -
I was thinking the same as Maura - he probably knows he wants to get you an e-ring and knows that he has to save up for it. You said yourself that it was pricey - the one you love... he is probably trying to save up money. FI did this all spring/summer. He took every single week of the support phone. It drove me nuts, because it's 24-7 and wecan't leave town. I had to tell him at one point to stop taking everyone's support weeks or we'd never do anything together! He finally agreed. Turns out he was like on auto-pilot trying to save up money for the wedding. Sweet, but ends up driving you nuts! Ask him why he's working so hard and just tell him you need to start planning some date nights b/c you're going crazy at home alone. Try to organize some friend/family nights too though so he's not the only one spending time with you. It's a lot of pressure one one partner when the other is home alone and bored. Good luck!

My shoes just came in!!! I just posted them in the Attire section - what do you think? http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t31823 My sister's super happy about her shoes (she's one of my BMs), so I'm happy about that. She loves shoes as much as me and my mother wasn't into the ones I chose. I also got dance shoes for salsa classes. Woohoo! Now I'm waiting for my veil. I'm so impatient. I thought it woudl arrive today, but they posted it 2 days ago and it could take up to 2 WEEKS... ahhhhh!!!
-
So my little sister came over last night to 'deliver' a pile of shoes that I'd ordered a few weeks ago and had delivered to her bf's cottage... we had so much fun going through all of them!!! You can see the colour of the BM dresses in the sash on the floor - it's raspberry. The girls love it! These are the BM dresses (but in raspberry - nearly fuschia coloured with same coloured sash) And here are the BM shoes ($23 on Amazon.com!) I'm so happy because my sister loves the shoes as much as I did, so I'm glad I ordered them in the end (they wanted me to pick). And here are my shoes after my dress (don't mind the terrible state of my feet!) Flats for the beach: and heels... these are so comfy (they even have a little pad under the ball of your foot). Now I just have to figure out what to hem the dress to.
