Packing List (Combined from Forum posts)
EricaG replied to Amy&Andy's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
This is great. I have a list already written out that I have added to as I thought of things, but I will have to compare this list to it. I love packing for trips, and I wish I could start, but it is still a ways away, and we will use some of our clothes over the summer. I have started to pack some wedding stuff away though, but it isn't packed where it is necessarily going to stay packed, it is just out of the way for now!!! LOL -
I sent out all my invites after getting them weighed and 1 came back. Not 2 or 3 or all of them, but ONE! I took it to the post office and they weighed it and for some odd reason, that one was heavier than the rest of them!?!?!?!? Not too sure on the reasoning, but in the end I still had to put more stamps on and send it off. How retarded is that. I can sort of feel your pain with our similar yet different situations. Darn post offices!!!!

Are you coming or what?
EricaG replied to beyondsmitten's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
I have gotten very few responses from people. There were a few that were verbal and I just went in on the website and did it myself for them. I just recently sent out an email to everyone that had been invited and had not said they weren't coming to let them know the cost had gone up again due to fuel costs. At the bottom of the email I added a little note that it people had already booked, disregard the email, and those who won't be joining us could email me back and let me know and I would take them off the mass wedding email list. I have actually got responses back following that email. Yeah!! Maybe a couple more emails and we might actually have a close to final count! -
LOL. I had actually heard that before! Thank goodness that isn't still the reason for the bouquet.

About 2 months ago my Mom had to go for surgery to remove the right side of her thyroid d/t a tumor. They weren't sure if the tumor was malignant or not, so we had to wait for 2 weeks after the surgery to get the results. That 2 weeks was a long wait for everyone on our family, especially since they started talking about possible surgery to remove it about 2 months before that. Well finally we got the results and they were good news. It was benign!!!! What a relief for everyone to know that. Well, about 1 month afterwards, my Aunt wasn't feeling very good. She would get tired very easily and was starting to get worried. A couple weeks ago she went to the Dr and they did bloodwork. Her results were not looking good, so they told her they were going to send her to a specialist and let them have a look at her. Her appointment was made for the next day! That was a good indication that they were worried about something. She went for her appointment and found out that she has leukemia. The good news is that it isn't a aggressive or even acute leukemia, but chronic. They figure that they can treat it with chemo only and she will need a few blood transfusions. Although it is not great news, she is dealing with it well, since she says at least now she knows what is wrong, so now they can deal with it. So 2 days ago I went over to visit with my cousins wife since they just moved to the same town as us. I asked her if she had heard about my Aunt, and she commented that thay had heard and how awful it was that everyone was so worried about my mom having cancer and just after we find out she is okay, we find out my aunt has cancer. Well, about 5 mins after that was said, the phone rang. It was my cousin (her DH), and he had bad news. His mom (another one of my aunts) had called him to let him know that when her husband (his stepdad) was mowing the lawn and started getting chest pain. She took him to the hospital right away since she lost her first husband (my cousins dad) to a massive heart attack. Turns out he had a heart attack and the pain was starting again. He was transferred from the small hospital about an hour and a half from where I live to one of the city hospitals. They ended up putting a stent in and now he has been transferred to another city hospital. We are still waiting for him to be released and make sure that he is alright. Oh yeah, the day that my aunt found out she has leukemia was the day of my great aunt's funeral. Needless to say, my Grandma has been having a stressful time lately. My great aunt's passing was not expected but not a surprise, as she was in her 90's and she did die in her sleep which was a nice comfort. We are a close family and haven't really had to deal with too much loss or serious illness in a long time. Now it seems to be hitting all close together. We are all hoping that this was our 3, and that any news will be good news for now on.

Curly hair girls -please come in
EricaG replied to Willsbride's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
My hair is basically the same as Heidi. I used to always get my hair braided when I went anywhere. The first time I got it braided down there, and it was not a good experience, so my Mom would braid mine and my sisters hair before going. Now I went to Cuba a couple years ago without braids and my hair wasn't too bad, so I am hoping to have my hair down somewhat. If I keep it all down, I will get so hot and will keep playing with it and it will get frizzy. At the same time I don't want to pull it all back without any curls. So far my Mom has been playing with a couple of different styles, and they weren't too bad, but I didn't take any pics. -
What does your wedding cake look like? Post pics of your cake(s), or pics of the cake you would like to have at your DW &/or AHR. Here is the cake that I want for my AHR. I will be changing it slightly, as it will be white and teal, and the solid white will be at the bottom and the solid teal will be at the top. My Mom has made several wedding cakes, and this time I want to make it with her assistance! Not really sure what is happening with the DW cake yet!

Now that I am back at work, I am not as excited about planning the AHR. I know that it will be a blast and there are so many people that have asked about it since they can't make it to the DW. Now that I am back at work again though, I am very busy and tired from that, especially since I will be working 3 extra shifts this week already.

I couldnt write that on her paperwork so I called the radiologist and let him know why we were scanning that patient....she gave us all quite the laugh but she was dead serious. HAHAHAHA!!!!!!! It is amazing some of the things that people say, even the elderly. Being a nurse, we see and hear a lot of hilarious things. This is priceless though.

I hope that everything works out for her healthwise, but I still think that you should give her the out. After all, you did say that she has always been difficult, and her stress from school & health problems doesn't excuse her from IM-ing your FI like that. If you want to still give her a chance to get through her own things, I would tell her that she is more than welcome to come to the wedding, but as a guest. That way there isn't the added stress of the wedding taking a toll on her, you, your FI or anyone else involved in the wedding. That is my 2-bits.

At the DW reception, I think that for the father/daughter dance, I will dance with our son (he'll be 16 months then) and my FI will dance with our daughter (3 years old). We still aren't sure that FI mom will be there, and I know that my dad would probably be relieved not having to dance. AHR - not really sure yet. We may do it the same, or we may do it with the parents.

I saw that thread that said 'see you next tuesday' and I was wondering what was up with that, bu tnow I know!!! LOL. I can at times have a truckers mouth myself, but with my daughter being 3, I am trying really hard to control it. If I let something slip in front of her, I correct it right away with something else like 'frig' 'darn' 'shoot'. There is one other cover up word that I used that everyone laughs at, but of course I can't think of it right now!!!

My Aunt went to the hospital last night.....
EricaG replied to jajajaja's topic in Chit Chat Corner!
I am so gald that the second hospital was able to do their jobs. If I were you, I would write a formal complaint about the care that was received, or should I say not received. As a nurse, I can honestly say that I would not just sit back and ignore someone that sick. I can't speck for my co-workers (nurses or doctors) but from my experiences working with them, that would never have happened!!!! That makes me sick to think that there are hospitals out there like that. They are there to help sick and injured people, not ignore them!!!! Once again, I am so glad to hear that you got some answers, and I will still be thinking about your aunt and your family until she is in the clear of this. -
I have been to: Canada USA Italy Dominican Republic Mexico Cuba

My Aunt went to the hospital last night.....
EricaG replied to jajajaja's topic in Chit Chat Corner!
I am so sorry to hear about this. I am a nurse in a small community up here in Canada. I now that when we have people coming in with seizures, we treat the seizure itself and then the problem causing them. If we aren't sure of the cause, even after the tests that we are able to do, we send them to bigger hospital for further testing. Basically, we don't make them make their own appointments, but they get sent into one right away. I hope everything gets sorted out with your Aunt, and I will be thinking of you and your family. Keep us posted!!!! -
OMG!!!!! I had to look at the puc again, because I also thought that it was one of those fake pics. That is just awful........

I never remember if you put the eggs in before boiling the water, or after the water is boiling. I used to call and ask people, but they probably think I am a twit for asking so many times, so now I just google it!!!!

When I sent out our STD's we didn't have a set date yet either. Actually, we knew where we wanted to go, but it wasn't set in stone, so we put that we were going to the Dominican in Nov 2008. We also had our wedding website on it so everyone could check that for details as they happened. Townie Princess - I also have a facebook group and event page set up, so I guess we are dorks together! LOL

Not sure if this is directed at my little blurp, but the wedding party dance isn't with everyone else dancing. It is were the bride & groom, and the bridal party dance only. This is how almost all weddings that I go are done, but not sure if it is how everyone else does it. It is nice to get others input. Mishka Designs - I like the 2 orders that you wrote. I have never seen anyone do the first dance right after entering before, nor the cutting of the cake right after supper. Actually, the DW we went to a couple years ago cut the cake right after, but then we went to the disco for the dance). I am definately willing to try something for the norm around here.
