They want to go back and got a whole bunch of pamphlets from the resort to give to other friends and family that didnt go. I wouldnt be surprised that if your mom is against it now but likes it the most when she gets there. I hope so. She was pretty ok with the going away part because she knows I hate being the center of attention in a large crowd but its the details she seems to give me the most trouble over. Basically if its not boring and traditional she tells me she doesn't like it. I have come to the point where I started taking her opinions with a grain of salt and go ask my sister, FSIL, FMIL and a couple friends. They always tell me the truth and they never agree with my mom.
  2. Thank you ladies, you give great advice. Well I guess I will "put my big girl panties on" and talk to her tonight. My FI built her a new computer so we have to go see her anyway. Cross your fingers for my ladies! Carla
  3. I would use business cards. As long as the cut you put in the card are small the tension should hold the card up. But if all else fails put a glue dot or 2 on the umbrella handle after you thread it through.
  4. Hey all, Well I am back again about my mom *sigh*. I posted a while ago about my mother having a fit over our Mayan ceremony (http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t27198). She has continued to be negative anytime I sugguest something that is not white lace in a church. Well I thought we had shared everything with her that she could make snide comments about, wrong. We decided to have our engagement pictures done in Chicago. So I sent her a link to a photographer we fell in love with, Laurie Peacock (Website Blog). She wrote back to let me know she didn't like the pictures. Everyone else I sent them to loved them. I get all excited about something and then she rains on my parade. If she is going to keep doing this how I am suppose to keep her in the wedding plans? Ever since my dad died a couple years ago she has regressed to a child that throws tantrums when things are not going her way or when she is not the center of attention. How do I keep including her while still keeping my sanity? Carla

I know how those conversations go, I had one of those recently when we announced that we were having a Mayan ceremony instead of a Christan one. I learned my lesson. I just am not telling my mom that it is not legal and that we did the paper work at home.
  6. I am using the share feature. I select individual blog posts that I think are great and mark them with notes and share them. Anyone interested in reading the ones I share, here is the link: Google Reader - adias.angel's shared items
  7. Glue dots are great and you can get a whole roll of them in the scrapbooking aisle for just a couple dollars.

  10. My reasons are totally different I guess. I am highly allergic to pollen and I don't want to be miserable while holding my bouquet. Carla
  11. I am guessing for 20 people it will cost about 145 for the bag and contents.

  14. PLEASE ONLY POST PHOTO INSPIRATION LINKS IN THIS THREAD. Hi All, Morgan and I were talking and thought everyone might benefit from what we are doing - using google reader to keep updated on blogs and sites that have photography inspiration. So what is google reader? Google reader is a FREE web application that will keep track of any blogs/websites for you and let you know when new content/pictures have been added. So if you have a lot of photography blogs this is an easy way to see all the updates in one location. Here is info on google reader and a step by step tour of it: Google Reader Step-By-Step How To Use Google Reader Each post from now on will contain links of wedding and e-pics inspiration sites. A lot of them will be photographers blogs but still great if you are looking for inspiration. Morgan and I will keep adding links. Please feel free do add also but ONLY place links in your posts. That will make it easy for people to browse. We hope this helps other brides. Let us know if you have any questions. Carla
  15. There will be a mariachi band in the restaurant. Check out the thread I linked to for more info. I guess another couple hired a band to be with them on the terrace as they ate...

So I guess I will be contacting you this summer after I get them back to teach me how to remove the rest. Google reader huh? I am a HUGE gmail girl so I think I might like this. Would you mind sharing some of your links with me that you are currently "stalking"? I am off to add to google reader.

  18. I use the fiskar rotary trimmer because it has the different blades you can buy. They have one for perforating that works great on the boarding pass STD's. It is so worth the money. Carla

Thanks for all of the links. They've been super helpful. Did Misha Media ever get back to you? Are you taking your pics soon? I'm not sure if we should take them in the winter or wait until the spring. I know, I know Chicago only has summer and winter : ) but I don't want to wait. I'm too impatient! YEA!! I am so happy to hear you are doing yours in Chicago too. Maybe we can swap info about poses and locations? Misha did get back to me but her digital proofs were not included in the engagement session. I didn't want to pay an extra cost for those. Then I saw Laurie Peacock's work (that includes digital negatives at the same price) and fell in love! Plus of all the photographers I emailed she was the only one to call me personally instead of emailing. Needless to say that we are booking her, she is so friendly and sweet. I went through about 50 photographers from brides.com, theknot.com, wedding photo journalist association, and a couple other sites. Narrowed the list down to about 20 that had a great photojournalist style and emailed them all for prices and to see if the negatives were included. My top ones I emailed back to find out if they were edited before being given to us. I have everything in an excel spread sheet if you would like the info. Just drop me an email cause I don't want to attach it here as prices changes over time. I totally hear you about being impatient but we are going to wait until August '09. I asked Laurie and she said the summer months are the best because of the great weather. My rule is always listen to the expert, they know what they are talking about. Carla
  20. We are doing a Mayan/Cosmic ceremony and asking our guests to wear all white. Then the only colors we will have is orange on the back of my dress, my bouquet, FI tie and my parasol. I think everyone wearing shades of a color would be awesome though! A sea of blue on the beach would be so beautiful. Carla
