I have only been wedding dress shopping once so far and fell in love with two dresses already! Need to go again and figure out what I want...

  3. Another December bride here! December 8th - Dreams Riviera Cancun I started a thread for December brides awhile ago, but in the General area (so for all DW brides): http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...-brides-56114/ But I am especially interested in getting to know the Cancun/Mayan Riviera girls! I have sent out STD's (and people have started booking - yay!!!), and have booked my photographer and DJ. Next on my agenda (that I need to do very soon!): invitations and wedding dress!!!
  4. Hi Erin, to the forum! I'm also a December bride - yay! Good luck with your planning, you've certainly come to the right place to find all the info you need. And let me know if I can be of any help

They agreed and now they cant not offered a plane ticket. So I only have my maid of honor. I am so freaking stressed out. Now I have room that I have to pay for that no one is staying in. What kind of friends do that someone. Oh yeah they both told me threw text that they could not come. That's terrible Megan!!! I can only imagine how upsetting that is. I'm having a bit of trouble with my BM situation but not this bad. I'm so sorry that's happening to you And I CANNOT believe that they wouldn't come when the room is paid for! I don't even know you really and I want to come, lol!

Personally I would not pay for their pass. They made the choice to stay at a different resort so I don't really think it's fair if you have to pay for them to come in. They may not have known about the whole day pass thing when they booked but at the very least they should have asked!!! On another note, these photos of a recent wedding were posted on the FB fan page: Black Dog Studios | Kate & Nick Destination Wedding Just thought I'd share in case anyone hasn't seen them. I think they are fab - enjoy!
  7. CONGRATS, CONGRATS!!! Laura my heart is doing a little pitter patter reading your review - I'm so happy that everything turned out so well, and you are making me so excited for my own wedding there! I cannot wait to see your pro pics!!! I imagine this may come with pro-pics, but is there any chance you can post a close-up of your boquet? From what I can see it looks gorgeous and is the colors I am hoping for. I'd love to just be able to tell Ana "I'll have the same as Laura"!
  8. For the wedding dresses, both are GORGEOUS but I have to say that I really love dress #2 on you! Who are the designers?
  9. Yay more December brides! Sounds like we are all at about the same place... whew I don't feel "behind"! sgray, good for you doing your PhD amidst all this! What will it be in? I'm working on an MA in Counselling Psychology, and am about mid-way through. I THINK we are having bridesmaids and groomsmen... I want them, and have three girls in mind, but two of them have yet to book and are being kind of flaky about it so FI suggested scrapping the whole bridal party! We haven't asked anyone officially yet anyways, as we wanted to wait until people booked the trip. FIs potential groomsmen are totally on board though, so really it's just my silly potential BMs that are the problem! I have heard a number of people on here saying that they had no bridal party, or wished they had gone this route because of all the drama, (which I am starting to get!) but there's definitely a traditional and photo-obsessed part of me that can't imagine the wedding without at least a small bridal party. How about you? wnmrtn8, I am making passport invites... they are coming along at a snails pace at the moment but they are coming! CanadianLindsey, don't worry, I don't think you've waited too long! Although I agree it's tough because you very quickly go from things being too far out to do, to NEED TO DO RIGHT NOW!!! If you haven't got one already, I would suggest getting a good TA - they can really help organize the travel side of things!
  10. We have had a couple of our guests ask if it would be okay if friends of theirs, etc, came along to Mexico as well. I hope not too many people do this (and I don't think there will be) because then everyone is going to be going off with their own group of friends during the week, and not doing things "together" as we are hoping. I really want all our guests to get to know each other and have fun together the whole week! But you can't stop people from going on vacation at the same time/place you are. So for anyone that's asked we have said that it's fine for their friends to come to Mexico of course (and actually it's more than fine cause we're getting every 6th room free, so if they book with our group then it's potentially more $$ back for us!), but that unfortunately there is an additional cost per person associated with coming to the wedding and so they wouldn't be able to come to the actual wedding and reception. I think that seems reasonable and everyone has been fine with that!
  11. Can't wait for your full review Carina!!! Your pictures are beautiful Love your dress especially - who's the designer? It looks like you came out to the wedding from the Governor Suite - did you just get to use it for the day, or did you stay in that room?
  12. Hi Lisa, I'm also a December bride! Welcome to the forum!!! Do you know which resort you are getting married at yet? There are so many great options in the Riviera Maya area! Actually it can be a little overwhelming (well, for me anyways...). Thank god for this forum! Good luck with all your wedding plans

She says b/c the resort directly works with a company -- that Dreams has no control over it. See- I am bringing my own photographer and wanted to do the Ultimate Pkg and sub more video for the photos-- or do the other pkg and do video instead of photo and she says NO. UGH!! Anyone else heard different? Have document to prove it? I am tired of us all being told different things. That does suck! Unfortunately I was basing what I said on what one or two other girls had said on here... can't remember who, but I'm sure if I went back on the thread I could find it. Hopefully somebody can chime in that actually did have this agreement with Ana!

I have the photographer I want and that was the most important thing to me! Plus we have friends with videocameras etc, so that would be fine for me in terms of video. But we are probably getting a package which includes photos and video. Honestly I would love to just trade both in for something else, but I doubt Ana would go for it. So if we do a package we might end up with a longer video since we don't need the photog (I have heard she will do this). The video would be nice, just not totally necessary imo. Have to decide if we are doing a package or not... I don't think it's something I would spring for if it's not included. As for sharing, hello, check out my signature, I would love to share!!! Currently I have Michael booked to come with us for a week (Dec.4-11), but that is totally flexible. I LOVE him, I LOVE his work, and he's going to be WAY cheaper than booking any of the Mexico photogs I was interested in (i.e. Elizabeth Medina, Claudia Rodriguez, Del Sol) even including travel costs! Here's the link to his website and blog: Vancouver Wedding Photographer | Michael Wachniak Feel free to send me a PM if you have any questions or thoughts on this. Maybe there's other stuff we could share too!
  15. Oh girls, I am pretty sure I am going to be a Maggie bride, just not sure which one yet! I went to try on dresses yesterday for the first time, and fell in love more than once. This one looks great on me and I think would be just perfect for my destination wedding: Brianna - by Maggie Sottero And this is the one I can't stop thinking about: Ambrosia - by Maggie Sottero Brianna is lighter and a little more simple, modern, and sexy. Amrosia is heavier (satin) but is just so stunning and really has that WOW factor. My own jaw dropped when I saw myself in it! But I'm not sure if it "fits" with the rest of the wedding, the feel of it. And it's a little more $$$ than I was hoping. So what's a girl to do? I'll go back in a few weeks and try them both on again, and maybe a few others, and see if it becomes more clear. But in any case I'm pretty sure I'll end up being a Maggie bride! Really love her dresses and the new 2010 line. I can't wait to post back what I end up choosing!!!
  16. Gorgeous! Unfortunately after dress shopping yesterday I'm kind of in love with another dress.... and realize that I am so not a wedding dress size 10, which is good to know! Good luck with selling it
  17. It's really pretty! Have you got any pictures of you in it, or of the back?

We looked at the honeymoon suite and its not much better than the regular rooms so its not really worth it. hope this helps...Leigh My fiance and I are still totally debating what type of room to get!!! At first we definitely wanted a room with a plunge pool, but now we have heard reviews that the plunge pools are not heated and therefore are too cold to use and a waste of money outside of the summer months! Not sure if I believe this entirely though since I have heard that one of the buildings does get sun on the plunge pools and they are ok? (Any of you girls that did site visits, please feel free to comment) So now we are thinking about just an oceanview or oceanfront suite. I also love the idea of the Master Suite or Governor Suite so that everyone would have room to get ready, but it is quite a bit of money to upgrade this much obviously. Plus for us, it's not much more for the Governor than it is for the Master (relatively speaking) so even if we did decide on a suite we're not sure which one of these would be best! Ugh, I don't know!!! The good news is that all the rooms do look amazing
  19. You might find some answers in this thread: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...g-dress-48967/
  20. The appraisal should be for what the ring is actually worth, not necessarily what was paid. And I agree that you should insure your ring for what it is appraised at. However, as others have mentioned, usually the ring appraises higher than what was paid which means you got a good deal! Mine was bought at Costco and they guarantee it will be appraised at higher than what you pay. If the jeweller is saying that the ring is worth $1000 less than what he charged you, then he's got some explaining to do!
  21. I think it's about time that us December brides had our own thread! I'd love to get to know the rest of you and find out about your wedding plans, and how things are going I am getting married December 8th at Dreams Riviera Cancun in Puerto Morelos, MX (Mayan Riviera). So far, I have my photographer and DJ but that's pretty much it. I did send out boarding pass STDs last fall (but that was when we were planning to go to the Dominican - oops!), but have been procrastinating on passport invites. I am going dress shopping next Monday (so excited!!!). I feel like I still have so much left to do to though! And this forum makes me want to do EVERYTHING myself. Unfortunately I am a grad student (working on my MA) so have very little time to do it... this forum is so helpful, but also so distracting for me, lol.
  22. I'm so glad this thread got bumped! I was just looking for it yesterday and couldn't find it. I am going dress shopping next week so maybe I'll be able to post here soon islandbride317 - I love your dress, but what I love more than anything is how excited you look to be in it!!! You definitely defeat the model. Mind you, I think with that look on your face you could be wearing a paper bag and rock it! asayle - You look just as good as that model and maybe better!

I might look at shipping some stuff down ahead of time... I would just really have to do my research and make sure it's not something that would get held up in customs - that would be awful! Normally I wouldn't even think of shipping anything down because I have heard it can be quite expensive, but FI's dad gets very good UPS rates through his work. I'm sure that there are some things that you could get once you are down there (i.e. Costco) and I think that's such a good idea rather than packing everything, but I'm also not sure that I want to have to worry about that once I'm there. I kind of just want to give my guests their OOT bags and get on with my vacation, and not have to go shopping the minute the plane lands!
  24. Ladies can you help me out? I'm searching for that thread where photogs discussed what makes a good TTD dress, and can't seem to find it anywhere! Well, actually I noticed it referred to earlier in this thread, but the link was broken I'm going dress shopping next week (yippee!!!) and definitely want to keep my TTD in mind. A lot of the dresses I like are tafetta, but I seem to recall some photogs saying that tafetta is not the greatest since it ends up being a bit of a balloon in the water! I wonder if anyone has had a good TTD experience with a tafetta dress they could share? Also, I have noticed that there are different types of tafetta - wonder if that makes a difference? Thanks!
