"yes, please." wtf?? it wasn't a yes-or-no question, it was either-or! so i decided yes meant i needed to get it. they already have kept my $25 check for the apostille, and are waiting for me to send another $25 for the certified copy of BC. ugh. i'd triple-check whether or not i need it, but by the time my WC gets back to me with an answer, i'll already be married, lol.
  2. ok well on livejournal (LJ, haha) FI definitely stood for "future intended" (meaning fiance, though that doesn't make sense), but on this forum, it is shorthand for fiance: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t2690#post32777 btw, livejournal also used DH, MOH, FMIL, etc. i think we should move to make a permanent change to "bucknaked diva" tho! LMFAO, morgan!
  3. yikes! i have nothing done, i swear! even the things i *thought* were done, now are NOT. i.e., dress purchased in nov. still has not arrived, apostille application was rejected because i first need to obtain a certified copy of my birth certificate (apparently *original* BC with raised seal is not good enough!), now not enough OOT bags (have to find new bags and more items), fans & maracas not done because i had to purchase more, bridesmaids' gift jewelry order got screwed up (i was sent something i didn't order at all, and it's a weird company in china, so will probably never get resolved ... time to find new jewelry for them), etc. etc. etc!

  5. i honestly don't think she was talking about this forum. she provided 4 links for places you could see people talking about her ... i clicked them all and none were this forum (the knot, blogger, etc). using "FI" isn't specific to us. when i used to post to livejournal, they used it there too. (personally, i've never used it, because i don't get it. it stands for "future intended," right? well he's my "intended" NOW! he's my future HUSBAND.)
  6. wow, that's a huge % loss, shannon! way to go! jacilynda, congrats to you too, the pics look great! and now you have super motivation for BL6 with that gorgeous dress ... you'll definitely be the girl to beat! ann, is there any way you can tell us the total pounds lost by all the girls in the contest?

  8. omg it's just after midnite and i didn't send my pic! running to do that now (figure if i lived in cali i'd still have a few hours, right?)! not that i really lost anything. a couple ounces. lol

My parents can't afford to pay for her, but since it's very important shes there Joe and I paid for her trip. you are so lucky to have a set of parents who can contribute so much! mine are old and retired (and have chosen to pay for my MOH anyway, instead! lol), and tom's dad was laid off for most of this past year ... we didn't even know how his parents were going to make it to the wedding themselves. we are paying for tom's grandmother (only grandparent between us), otherwise she couldn't be there either.
  10. i voted for the 11th but could most likely do the 18th as well if that's the way it goes! thanks for posting the poll for us!

OOT stands for "out of town" ... the bags are like a bag of welcome goodies.
  12. i'm so glad i read this!!!!!! you are NOT crazy ... at least my mom never said her paying for my MOH's entire trip was a "gift" to me! my MOH decided she & her husband weren't coming because of financial reasons. well, when we were all dress shopping, my mom & sisters plotted and when i came out of the dressing room, they announced that they were paying for MOH & husband to go, because they knew how much it meant to me. we squealed and jumped, and cried, and were both so happy and excited! then later it hit me ... my mom is shelling out $1500 for her, which certainly impacts the amount she can give me as a gift (and mind you, my mom is 70 this year, parents are retired, living on a fixed income and social security). i thought, if my parents were going to pay for *anyone's* trip, shouldn't it be MINE? i knew they wouldn't be able to contribute much (if anything) to the wedding, but i always thought my mom would want to at least buy my dress. well that day they talked me into a more expensive dress than i wanted to buy, but no one ponied up any cash. and really, how could they, when they are paying another person's ENTIRE trip?? my fiance is pretty ticked that MOH & husband had the nerve to accept this generosity without even contributing whatever they *could* afford. mind you, he's right ... the reason they gave for not being able to afford to come was there was work on their house that they'd like to do, and didn't want to blow their SAVINGS on the trip. i could see maybe someone helping with airfare, or giving them a loan, but no ... they are going to cancun for a week (over $3000) for FREE! oops, sorry i just totally hijacked!

(fyi: we used an egg carton to stand them in after painting the handles, and then used a shoe box with holes punched in it to hold them after painting the tops). the red covered very well, but my mom insisted on a second coat of the red glitter. i will try to remember to take some pics, even if it is with a fake tag for now. they are nothing wonderful ... i kinda feel bad that i took the lazy way out ... i was originally all excited for doing some serious hand-painting, lol.

I guess she just isn't that patient or creative... i'm in total agreement with you on this! every time i got down about stuff in the planning process, i reminded myself that at the end of the day, i will be married to the man i love. nothing else really matters.

  17. anyone know, in the ultimate package, how many appetizers you are supposed to choose (hot & cold)?
  18. i guess i'm just not as totally disgusted by this as the rest of you (mind you, i wouldn't want to be this chick's fiance!). i think she's banking on people being stupid enough to donate ... and hell, if they are that dumb that's their problem! think about it, she could have set up a sleazy webcam or something (with the intention of using proceeds for her wedding), and in my mind, that's far worse. at least here she's honest (that is, if she's not some nerd in his mom's basement, lol). i am annoyed at her implication that a $20,000 wedding is sh*t. i mean, how many guests is she having that all she can get for 20 grand is a brunch? at any rate, we are starting "helphartygotovegas" ... be sure to donate! LOL
  19. not sure i'm doing one, but here are some possibilities of things to include: front page/cover bride & groom's names, wedding date & location wedding party (can also include parents/grandparents names) ceremony officiant's name (if known) prelude processional (song title/artist) bride's processional (song title/artist) greeting reading (if any, title/author and name of reader) marriage vows exchange of the rings solo or musical interlude (if any, song title/artist/performer) signing of marriage certificate sand ceremony pronouncement of marriage recessional (song title/artist) thank yous/in loving memory a place to give special thanks to guests, parents, and other important people, and honor the dearly departed
  20. hah! i wish i thought of it first! not really. if i had found a way to make strangers pay for my wedding, i probably would have never gone the "destination" route. now that i have, i can't picture my wedding any other way. weddings at home seem so boring and ordinary now!

"can't you change it to the week before? the boys have their in class review for exams that week." SERIOUSLY?! no one cared that it was the only week the GROOM could go in may, LOL! besides, we were TRYING to be considerate by doing it the week of memorial day (people would lose one less day of school/work). you can NOT please everyone, no matter WHAT you do, so please yourselves! besides, cinco de mayo is an awesome anniversary to have! party your *sses off every year!

  24. not sure what the cost to upgrade was exactly, but i think it might have been on the contract? i know i saw it somewhere. i thought i wanted to do menus too, but i'm thinking now i want to wait til i get there and i've tried some of the food in person before i choose. also, it seemed weird to me to print a menu that didn't offer any choices, lol. it would be more like a description of what they were eating than a "menu." we originally thought we'd be having a buffet, but we don't have quite enough people for that.
  25. Quote: Originally Posted by cancunbride Hi ladies..... My day is almost here Im super excited!!! Anyhow, my MOH wants to make menu cards for each seat but I dont know what I need to pick from? Does anyone know what Im suppose to be looking at and how many items IM suppose to pick? if you have the ultimate package it includes gold menu for 20 people (i think the lower package includes the silver). you can upgrade to platinum menu at a price. according to lana, you can mix and match between menus (i.e. entree from one menu, dessert from another). oh, and you get only one choice per course, meaning everyone is eating the same meal. guests don't get a choice at dinner, unless you are having the buffet (you need 40 people for that). however, claudia told me they could "of course" accommodate vegetarians, or those with allergies. so if you really want to choose seafood but have people with allergies they will make something else for those people.
