so far we are going ahead with our plan to be married at dreams cancun may 28th. we only had one guest cancel ... our families are being unbelievably supportive and i'm just so grateful. since all dreams is offering so far in the event of border closures/canceled flights is postponing or moving to the dominican republic, i've contacted the WCs at all 3 dominican dreams resorts. so far, i've heard from one (palm beach) that my date is unavailable (i am intent on doing a legal ceremony so it would have to be either the 28th or 29th). even if my date is available at one of the DR resorts, my travel agent admitted that it will be near impossible to get flights and rooms for all of us at this point. here are the WC's email addresses in the dominican republic, for any of you hoping to make the switch: Dreams LaRomana: [email protected] Dreams Palm Beach (Punta Cana): [email protected] Dreams Punta Cana: [email protected]

I know on the site it says to book 125 days in advance but i only have 75, please someone help me out I don't want to scrap my wedding entirely. If any of you have any wedding information that the coordinators have sent you can you email it to me [email protected] Thanks so much for all your help ladies this forum has truly been a lifesaver! in the swine flu thread someone posted that moon palace is offering to move anyone to the palace resort in punta cana with no change fee: Swine Flu in Mexico and the U.S. i think your wedding is far enough away that you shouldn't panic and cancel, however i do understand that things are very unsure right now especially with flights canceled thru june and you might just need to have something concrete to bank on or you'll go insane. i have a feeling if this doesn't all resolve soon, there are going to be a lot more brides in this thread all of a sudden, as the AMresorts (dreams/secrets) in mexico are all offering to move trips to their punta cana counterparts! anyway you can try this: [email protected] -
i took at look at the pics of the restaurant set up for a wedding and they are wonderful ... i think you made a good choice, and way to stick it to your resort (even if you did end up losing 35%)! just be sure to make certain any legalities that might have been taken care of by the resort wedding coordinator will now be taken care of here. (not sure if you were having a legal or symbolic ceremony?)

i've been vascillating all day between crying my eyes out and making dumb (and yes, sometimes tasteless) jokes about swine flu. i think at this point if i don't keep on joking i will go insane, so i apologize to anyone who can't see the humor (i know if my wedding had been canceled i'd be hard pressed to find *any* humor in the situation). but i just saw this on zazzle and cracked up ... it's just so dumb:

Of course, my heart goes out to all who have been affected by this. I cant imagine how difficult it would be to cancel a wedding or move all of your reservations elsewhere. I hope it gets under control very quickly. it's ok to "go there" ... we're all friends here, and i'm sure anyone who knows you from discussions in this thread knows you don't mean anything by it. if you were a noob it might come off worse. i have to admit even i was thinking if i had just waited to book airfare i would have saved hundreds. however, as far as the resort is concerned, i doubt they will budge an inch on money matters. i was surprised (pleasantly) to see that they would even offer to move a wedding to a different resort.

I know that if I cough in front of my boss, she's going to try to quarantine me herself unless I have proof that I'm not a piggy flu carrier. I really hate all the panic and my heart goes out to those of you who are having your trips canceled or your guests freaking out. it really couldn't hurt anything to see a doc ... if nothing else they can prescribe you medicine for whatever else it may be. you're right, anyone who knows you were just in mexico will panic ... *sigh* doesn't EVERYONE have a cough and a sore throat after flying? i always do! (unless it's a sore throat from screaming because i was too drunk to know i wasn't whispering, or from singing loud horrible karaoke or something) and the runs when you've been to mexico? ... well gee, never heard of that before! LOL

diana, i'm sure everyone is grateful for your first-hand knowledge of the current situation in mexico, but don't let all this swine flu nonsense make you think for a moment that we aren't still dying to see your pics and review! you don't get off that easy! LOL. do you at least have a teaser pic or a non-pro one of your wedding day that you can share?

this is my correspondence with diana (dc22173) who just returned from her own beautiful wedding at dreams. i asked if i could share it with all of you to help put minds at ease, and she said yes of course: Quote: Originally Posted by dc22173 We just got back about an hour ago. I did notice the cooks wearing face masks on Sunday... I guess to put the guest at ease. For everyone else it was business as usual. I hope that this has not ruined any of your plans to go there. I had 18 people come and not one has gotten sick. Most of them came back to the US on Monday. I had my two kids ages 11 and 18 at the wedding and so far nothing. I think that the media has escalated this thing a bit too much. I was reading the paper in Cancun and they even said that Cancun has no incidences of the flu. Most of the people that have gotten it live in Mexico City which is hours away from Cancun. We kept our hands clean with anti bacterial lotion and did not drink the water unless it was from a bottle. We even brushed our teeth with bottled water. I would not hesitate to go back next week if asked Diana

michelle, my almost-date-twin, my heart is aching for you. i know none of the options seem like any consolation at all, even if they prove *possible*. it all sucks beyond measure. we didn't purchase travel insurance, nor did any of our guests, so if the same happens in the US we'll be screwed too. moving the date or the location (to dreams punta cana only) would be our only options for not losing a ton of money, and as you said, all those options seem like shit right now. i know no amount of these will help, but anyway.

BTW ~Some countries are being affected differently b/c they have universal health care or a different health care systems.... As we remember that there are many people on here from different countries. In the US insurance companies can't "choose" to arbitrarily stop covering you for something without notice. If you have out of network coverage you have it unless they expressly tell you that they are removing the coverage from your benefits package. They still cover you when you engage in an illegal activity and get hurt (i.e. a DUI that results in an accident)... exactly what i was thinking, but cabobride said in canada AND the US. although i can totally see not covering us IN mexico as a possibility. i guess i should look into that with my provider. glad i could provide a few laughs. i was really strong until today (i guess because i didn't think there was any way i'd be effected with my wedding still a whole month away), but i kinda unraveled today and needed to laugh badly.

So just keep in mind if you do go to Mexico still, that your insurance will do absolutely nothing if God forbid someone does get sick. I am not trying to scare people, I just think as much as this may be a hyped up disease, that this is just another thing to keep in mind. that is ridiculous and is like saying they won't cover you for lung cancer if you smoked despite the warning labels on cigarette packs. i find it hard to believe. could you please post a link to at least one reliable source where you've seen this?

ajs, your fiance is the sweetest. jaimelynne, your friend mentioned she could tell you which masks were best ... has she? i'm looking for ones that are not only effective, but that also will photograph well in bright sunlight, LOL! (ok come on, anyone who doesn't take advantage of that photo op is crazy. we will all remember this for the rest of our lives, and the true story of our weddings wouldn't be complete without a nod to the swine flu. i'm actually considering a pig bride and groom cake topper now! LOL)
