OUCH. i could hardly walk. i don't know why i didn't make people wait for me to go change into capris! i had to use a combo of triple antibiotic ointment and baby powder to heal it before the wedding! i think someone here posted about a product something like bike shorts but made out of pantyhose-type material? that might be good. definitely will be kinda hot for the spanx. but i didn't get the chub rub rash except from the long walk--if you're walking a lot, wear shorts or capris! other than that, you'll be fine. just use a little baby powder in the thigh area, or i've even heard of people using their underarm antiperspirant there. couldn't hurt!

nooooooooooo!! any team but pittsburgh!!!! that crosby doesn't deserve lord stanley's cup! wtf detroit? don't make me cry.

JoLo, i bought spanx with the intention of using them for the wedding, but honestly i scrapped the idea. my dress was a-line, so you couldn't really see the stuff that i need smoothed anyway (from the waist down, lol). besides, once the thought: "how the hell am i going to pee?!?!" occurred to me, i knew i couldn't wear them--i had the high-waisted ones that go up to your boobs and come down to mid-thigh, and i had one of those long bridal bras on too ... i would have had to have gotten completely undressed to go! in the end, i strangely never peed all day anyway, lol! too much SWEATING!

When do they give you the results?? we did the legal wedding. we were sent home with one copy of our marriage certificate, but it is entirely in spanish. we are waiting to receive the translated, notarized copy in the mail (can take up to 8 weeks, i think), so we can submit them to the powers that be here in the U.S. and have it legally recognized here. the blood tests are honestly no big deal. in the U.S. you used to need blood tests done, but it's been rescinded on a state by state basis over the past 10-15 years. they are testing for STDs, mainly HIV and syphilis i think. your WC will let you know the time and day of your test. you don't have to refrain from drinking the night before (i asked, lol), they just do it first thing in the morning so it's on an empty stomach. the resort doc will come to your room along with someone from security. they make sure it's you, have you sign something, and then honestly do the quickest, most painless blood test ever. tom's immediate reaction was, "way better than in america!" she took the time to find a good spot *first* rather than poking around. took one small vial of blood and that's it. i tend to bruise very easily but did not get any bruising at the puncture site. we never got any results, lol, but our wedding was allowed to happen two days later, so i guess we're all good! i actually would like to receive *something* lol ... would be cool to have something in spanish saying we're HIV-free!

lisa, i only went to cancun for a week, but i personally brought WAY too many clothes. i basically found myself living in bathing suits/coverups and sundresses. sundresses are super light for packing! and da.schmoopies, i love those jersey-knit gauchos too ... so comfy! i also had some "space bags" which are supposed to get all the air out of your clothes and make them take up half the space. not sure how much i think they helped, but they were ideal for taking home the dirty or wet clothes. i had packed a ton of capris and tops and most of it came home unworn. i also packed several lingerie items and only bothered wearing it on our wedding night (despite the fact that we skipped the wedding-nite-nookie, lol) ... i just felt like i *should* be wearing it, KWIM? waste of luggage space!

really cool, and it's so special that it's being made for you by a family member. my sister made my veil (which is no biggie compared to a whole dress), and i just loved her for it SO much! i like the bones of it so far ... sweetheart neckline and corset back? very nice! can't wait to see it as it progresses! do you have pics of what you'd like the final version to look like?

What I would and wouldn't do again...

i love this thread and will post to it later tonite ... just wanted to say something so it would end up in my subscribed threads ... i couldn't find it! -
awww ladies i just stumbled upon this thread! thank you all for thinking of me on my wedding day! it went by in a blur, but was an awesome, magical, wonderful, [insert a million happy adjectives here] day! i feel like i could have never gotten there without this forum, so a kajillion thank yous to you all! pro pics here: http://www.pictage.com/646679 (there's like 800 of them ... narrow it down to about 300 by clicking "my favorites," LOL!)

i keep saying that maybe i'll get all this stuff right at my next wedding, lol! don't get me wrong, my wedding was amazing ... just little things i wish we had done (or not done) ... photos we forgot to have taken, etc. (my photogs were awesome--the things we missed were totally NOT their fault!) ... the time just flies by so fast, and before you know it, it's over and you're left wishing you could do it all again!
-
i figured they wouldn't do it. oh well, it was worth a shot. they were so beautiful, it seems a shame they got thrown out after only 2 days. i didn't take the cake ... i didn't even try. the cake was such a waste ... it was delicious and made for a few good photos, but so much of it went uneaten, and we kept forgetting to have it sent via room service. my MOH took her bouquet home tho with no problem, so i'm wishing i had at least attempted it.

LOL, tamika! we *laughed* through our whole video ... but we loved it as well. the ceremony goes by so fast, so it's nice to actually hear everything that was said, and he captured so many little moments ... it brings back everything we were feeling, and the angles, transitions, panning in and out, etc. were nicer than i had expected. also, it was SO nice to receive the video the VERY NEXT DAY! since we had an "extended" video (our trade for not using the resort photographer), he had followed our photographers around, so we were able to get a good idea of how our pictures would look! he took the cd we had burned for the ceremony sound guy to use in the video, and then just added some of his own songs to it as well. it's not an *amazing* video or anything, but definitely an important keepsake of the day and i'm so glad we have it. if it is part of your package, don't skip it, ladies! i wish i knew how to make it online-postable but i'm clueless! tamika, welcome home, MRS! (i saw your DH on the morning of your wedding and he was cool as anything ... not nervous at all!) did you guys ever get the flowers? i remembered as we were checking out to try to send them to your room, but i figure they didn't do it.

jac, that's interesting. HALF the cases in the entire world are in the U.S. ... funny how we stopped hearing about it once the U.S. took over as the leader in confirmed cases. can't have our summer tourism, trade, economy, etc. effected by this! i like how it was fine when it was just little ol' mexico, who nobody gave a crap about. i wonder how much hush money went to the media, the WHO, and the CDC? i just found out tuesday night that a friend of mine's son had swine flu. it was before they really knew much about it, and the poor kid (he's about 6 i think) went through hell for about a month ... they were ready to move him to shriner's hospital ... they thought he had leukemia! once it was figured out that he had h1n1 and he was properly treated, he got well quickly and he's fine now, thank god. the family is from gloucester, nj, and none of them had been to mexico or knew anyone who had been.

marisol did my hair, and it was pretty much exactly what i asked for (i had pictures with me to give her an idea). i did get nervous when i first walked in, because sylvia had posted that the taller of the two girls didn't know what they were doing, and marisol was definitely the taller one! i was pleased with what she did. i have to say i haven't heard my hair sizzle like that since the 80s tho, LOL! she would spray it, then curl it in the hot curling iron (sizzle!) and then spray again! she also took it upon herself to round up some flowers for my flower girl's hair, and also had some shimmer stuff that she put on me "for luck." she was very sweet. the other chick did my mom's hair, MOH, and one of my sisters, and they were all pretty pleased with their hair as well. she seemed to be a lot quicker. and if we had ended up with a windy day (we didn't, somehow), none of their hair would have moved at all. mine was only half up, and loose (it was how i asked for it ... marisol did express her concern) but i got lucky with the wind. some of my group got manicures there. they took forever, didn't look that great, and were chipping by a day later. not sure if anyone got their toes done. my MOH brought cheap press-on nails with her, put them on that morning, and had the best nails of us all, lol.

here he his, ladies, making his second appearance at dreams cancun, may 28, 2009!

IMPORTANT! i knew the salon was bad at nails from other ladies' reviews, but what i did NOT know is that they don't do ANY fake nails there. NONE! i got a full set of tips done (pink-n-white process) before i left for cancun, and while the french looked beautiful, my nails for some reason looked like 3 weeks' worth of growth FAST and the salon was unable to do any fill-ins. i was super glad i had done a full set and not just gotten tips on the few fingernails that were short, because if i had broken any real nails i would have been out of luck!

LOL. i felt stupid for actually paying. the drinks were good ... we ordered doubles whenever we wanted to actually get a buzz. and you were right, whatever their house vodka is, it tastes like lighter fluid! my BIL got kamikaze shots for everyone without asking for any specific liquor and they were disgusting! there were no coco locos again. we tried to have them make the drink without the actual coconut but because they replaced the coconut "milk" with coconut rum, the drink was just too strong and gross. we loved mango margaritas or mango-tangos, and also dirty monkeys. some days we sat at the swimup bar all day and just did every drink on their menu board, lol!

just thought i'd pop in and see how everyone's doing so far and whereabouts in the contest you'd gotten to ... i'd like to be back in on this for season 7! now that the pre-wedding stress is gone i'm afraid my super-anxiety-metabolism will be gone too (i was strangely blessed in the month before the wedding ... i ate everything in sight--including fast food every day--never went to the gym AT ALL, and still LOST a few more pounds)! DH lost 15 lbs right before the wedding by just giving up processed whites (sugar and white flour). his suit was too big on wedding day. and he's already back into doing it again, so i need to start on something again soon or i'll gain back all the weight i lost! i participated in BLs 3, 4, and 5. my goal was never outrageous ... i just wanted to weigh about the same as i did when DH and i started dating 4 years earlier, by the time the wedding came around, and i achieved exactly that! i credit 90% of that to the support of this forum, and having to stay accountable to someone by sending my weight every week. the other 10% was anxiety, lol. so when does this round end and the next round begin? i'm hoping not until after i get home from our honeymoon in ireland!

jamaica0619, i love weird al's "eat it" for the cake cutting ... that made me laugh!

big hits: the actual bag (i only gave the beach bags to my girls, the moms, & gmom, and they all used them all week long. i had some of my guests--whom i just gave paper gift bags--asking me where everyone had gotten their beach bags. really made me wish i had been able to do them for everyone). same thing with the underwater disposable cameras ... HUGE hit, but i only gave them to the wedding party. they were such a hit i almost wish i had skipped the other stuff and just given these to all our guests. a card that had all the guests listed by room where they could write in everyone's room numbers. really helped our guests find each other throughout the week without having to memorize rooms. other big hits for everyone were rolaids, shout wipes, bandaids, bottle opener maraca keychains, bookmarks (saw everyone using them), postcards, and puzzle books. just ok: everyone commented on how much they loved the idea of the spanish/english dictionary, but i only saw one of the kids use his all week. hand sanitizer--everyone laughed when they saw it because of the swine flu, but i'm not sure anyone used it. playing cards--the guys all attempted to play drinking games one night, but other than that, these remained unused by everyone. big misses: koozies. they may be great at other resorts, but at dreams cancun everyone drank mostly blended drinks in huge fancy glasses. no one in our group really drank beer, and beers were the smaller bottles anyway so they wouldn't have fit. total waste. beach balls. no one used these. maybe they didn't realize what they were when they weren't inflated? wish i would have included: sunblock! yes, everyone packed their own, but pretty much everyone ran out and had to purchase more (at ridiculous prices).
