Do We need to have a reception at home after?

(where i'm from pretty much everyone gives $$$, not presents, for weddings ... most people know the cost per head of a fancy schmancy affair and give gifts of $100 or more ... don't think i'll be getting that at a BBQ after the fact, ya know? -

cougs replied to Maura's topic in Beauty, Exercise, Diet
hell why not? i'll give it a whirl ... lord knows i need to do something soon ... i've been putting off the dreaded dress shopping because i feel fat and gross (almost the heaviest i've ever been). besides, when we did this at work i came in 2nd (to a guy!) ... i might actually have a shot! and if i don't win, i will still have lost some weight and helped provide motivation to fellow BDW brides! -

Do We need to have a reception at home after?
cougs replied to meghanmbm's topic in At Home Reception (AHR)
i *think* i'll be having one, but that's probably because i haven't really found out how much my "cheap destination wedding" is going to cost yet, haha! seems it adds up more quickly than you'd think! at any rate, what i'd be having wouldn't really be a "reception" but more of a simple party. beer and margaritas maybe, the wedding video and pictures, and possibly a friend dj-ing, unless we spring for a bose sound dock and use an ipod. -
Thought it would be nice for all the Dreams Cancun brides (& grooms? Do they read this forum?) to be listed in one place for ease in finding out who shares your wedding date in the case of multiple weddings per day, coordinating meetups with other BDW members during your stay, etc. So I snagged the list from another thread and deleted everyone but DC brides! It would be especially helpful if you all could add your BDW screen names so we know who you are! Please quote the LAST post here and add your date! I know there's a lot more of us out there! does anyone know what the additional per person prices are? do children count too, or do they have a reduced rate? also, if you have a guest who is a vegetarian, will they accommodate them? i will have no choice but to have a buffet because besides the vegetarian (my matron of honor) i have several guests who have seafood allergies and can't eat it at all. what are you supposed to do when even the *steak* comes with seafood! there is nothing meatless, and there's only chicken in the silver menu, which i don't want since i'm paying more for the gold menu in the ultimate package! don't even get me started on my fiance's godmother who is not only allergic to seafood but is also allergic to CITRUS! *everything* has lime or orange! ugh!

IMO, while the resort in tulum is prettier, the gazebo in cancun beats all other ceremony possibilities!

They also have an "explorer's club" for kids (included) and babysitting available for a fee. You might be thinking of Secrets or Sandals, which are both adults only.

FREE or FOR SALE: All My Wedding Extras
cougs replied to foxytv's topic in Buy / Sell / Trade Archives
damn, looks like i'm WAY late! oh well! you're the best for doing this though! -
i love st. thomas but those are pretty much the only all-inclusives and they are pretty pricey when compared to mexico.

if it's just the two of you eloping, or if you only have a few witnesses and can foot the bill, definitely go to thailand! how exotic! it would be the trip of a lifetime! i'm curious as to what the wedding requirements are there if you want it to be legal in the states? if you are having guests, mexico would be easier on their wallets!

we all hate our arms ... heck, just last week my fiance's 7 yr old godson grabbed my arm, stopped, looked at me and said, "hmmm ... flappy!" i wanted to *die*, but i couldn't exactly argue with the kid ... they are indeed flappy! sometimes no amount of toning will fix the skin problem after a big weight loss. however, i'm not sure about lace but sometimes sheer white sleeves will actually *emphasize* lumps and bumps or make arms look *bigger* (you know how black is slimming, but white not so much?)! you'll have to try stuff on to know for sure ... lace might work like camo LOL! bottom line, if you try on a dress and actually feel beautiful in it, then that's THE ONE, whether it has sleeves or not. it will take work but you will find it! congrats on the weight loss!

Can't decide on RESORT or LOCATION!!
cougs replied to afrobride21's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
deciding on a location/resort was the hardest thing EVER! our decision on "location" mostly boiled down to price. our first decision was that we wanted an all-inclusive for our guests. in the caribbean, jamaica, dominican republic, and mexico are the most affordable locations. then we also needed the resort to be family-friendly as we had kids attending, which ruled out all secrets and sandals resorts. still other resorts were 14 and up, which ruled them out too. our travel agent suggested going somewhere that had a direct non-stop flight from philadelphia, because coordinating travel with many stops, layovers, etc. for a large group could sometimes be a hassle. also, for those who hate flying or afraid, fewer takeoffs and landings is always better. again, her suggestions were jamaica, dominican republic and mexico. we started looking at jamaica but didn't like the long ride from the airport to negril (1 hour) or ocho rios (2 hours!). that is also why we stuck with cancun rather than the riviera maya area of mexico. once we decided on cancun, the choice was easy for us. dreams is beautiful (stunning wedding gazebo), all-inclusive with great food (without wristbands or reservations!), and happened to be offering a "kids stay free" promotion during our stay. if it weren't for the free kids thing, we may have opted for one of the RIU resorts, as they get great reviews and are quite beautiful, and tend to be a little more affordable than dreams resorts. not to screw you all up, but you might want to look into a cruise wedding as well (you could visit several places in the caribbean that way)! if you read this forum, the bias is definitely toward dreams resorts. many satisfied customers here! -
