  1. i'm doing them, and strangely enough my fiance is totally on board -- he actually *wants* them! i was so surprised. i won't need many tho ... if i needed to do a lot i think i'd skip them because of the cost. a lot of my stuff will be DIY stuff like welcome brochures and such that will cost me next to nothing but will match my invites/colors (i can print all this stuff at work). i really liked morgan's "meet the guests" so i might also do something like that. i think the guests would get a kick out of it, and besides, our families STILL haven't met! the way things are going they might meet for the first time on the plane! hehe i bought the white/clear plastic beach bags that were at target recently for like $2 each, but once you get a stack of them they start to weigh quite a bit, so i may be returning them and opting for simple paper gift bags and do a logo sticker or something.
  2. that is absolutely terrible! at least they had the chance to be blissfully married right before they died ... if nothing else, i know i'd like to die happy. how absolutely awful for their families though ... i can't even imagine what they are going through!
  3. LOVE your dress, you of course look gorgeous! i'm happy to see someone else use red (used to be common but everyone seems to do coral now). and since i can't believe no one else has mentioned it yet, i'll go there: WHAT A HOT HUBBY!!!

  8. a couple thoughts on that: the grammar is awful, but i guess that's to be expected since english is their 2nd language. "contracting marriage" sounds like you're getting some kind of disease! where is the exchange of vows? that's the actual important part! overall, for a generic civil ceremony, it's not too bad. did you happen to find out if you are able to edit or add things to it like readings, sand ceremony, el lazo, etc.?
  9. bicycle is a good brand of cards, so that's a good price ... BUT dollar tree has budget no name cards in packs of 2 for $1.

  11. wow you girls totally made me cry! i originally wanted to dance with my father to that tune from "the godfather" ... it's his very favorite movie and he used to call me his little mafia princess (we are SO not *that* italian, so it's more of an inside joke between us). then my niece got married a few years ago and danced with my dad (her grandfather) since her father wasn't there, and SHE used it. so now it's out. i was upset over it at the time, but i got over it. except that he heard that "i loved her first" song and loves it ... i *really* don't like country but i have to admit the lyrics are beautiful. i just really didn't want a weepy song.
  12. i love it ... totally adding to my ever-growing list of must-plays!
  13. i just bought a bose sound dock for the reception, and i know there's a line-in, but i don't know yet if a mic would work with it? anyone? it would be great to have some sort of mic for the toasts/speeches. i was gonna suck it up and get the sound system just for the ceremony so you could hear us on the video that's included in our package, but if a mic will work with the sound dock i'll definitely be saving the cash!
  14. when i'm 64 - "will u still need me, will u still feed me, when i'm 64?" how sweet it is (to be loved by u) pour some sugar on me
  15. we just bought a bose sound dock to use with our ipod. hopefully that will be sufficient?
  16. i was positively awful (like i didn't even TRY) from july 25 through ... well today i suppose (even tho i've been back from vacation since sunday night)! not only was it vacation, both my and my fiance's bdays were celebrated ... cake, cake, and more cake. add to that a couple bbqs, a half pound of fudge, and some lovely alcoholic beverages, and well ... the scale will tell the rest! not looking forward to seeing my good loss in week 1 totally undone ... off to the gym!
  17. my FMIL has tried inviting everyone she passes on the street! i think we've gotten the situation remedied at this point tho. it took my fiance sitting her down and setting her straight about the added costs as well as not wanting a third of our wedding guests to be strangers! haha

Thanks, Carla we wanted NOT to be on the beach for the ceremony/reception, mostly because of older guests who would have trouble walking thru sand. also wanted a resort that had some handicapped rooms, for the same reason. you might want to consider travel time for your guests, not just air but also from the airport to the resort. this is mostly why we ruled out negril & ocho rios jamaica and some areas of riviera maya like tulum. we chose dreams also because of their "no wristbands" and "no reservations" policies for dining. we thought having to make dinner reservations every day would be a hassle ... however, if you have a large party who enjoy dining together, you may WANT a place that will do reservations. also definitely find out about buffet vs. a la carte restaurants. at some resorts, the buffet is always included, but you are limited to how many a la carte dinners you can attend per stay.

  21. hartyt509 (marie) just makes me LMFAO!
  22. i originally was looking at the riu chain in jamaica, but these are the reasons i ultimately chose (cancun) mexico over jamaica (despite jamaica being cheaper during my time of year and from my location): in jamaica it's a long ride from airport to resorts (about 1 hr to negril, 2 hrs to ocho rios ... but if resort was in montego bay it would be very close) cancun nightlife and shopping within safe walking distance from resort many resorts in jamaica have the problem of "vendors" entering the resort beaches trying to sell you "goods" no dreams resort in jamaica (hey, i'm biased ... at dreams there are no wristbands or restaurant reservations necessary, and more importantly, kids stay free!) some pros for jamaica: legal civil wedding requirements are less than mexico's can be more affordable reggae, rum, and jerk! beautiful beaches
