  1. Does anyone have a veil they would like to sell after their wedding? I am looking for approx 30-35", single layer with scattered crystals or clear beads either on the edge or just throughout. If you have anything like it and are looking to sell it please let me know! Thanks!
  2. I'm also hoping to borrow one from someone if they're so willing! I'm getting married Dec '08 as well.
  3. Colin and I make about the same, but I work on call so my paycheques are never the same. Some months I make a bit more than him, and some months he makes more than me. It's never more than a few hundred dollars either way though.
  4. Are you sure this person is not aware of the problem? My mom has chronic bad breath and she does everything she possibly can to fix it. She pops mints all day long and has some of the best oral hygiene from anyone I know. She is very embarrassed by the issue and I personally think it might be diet related because she doesn't eat many carbs... but it's being going on for years. I would just tread very lightly. The worst thing would be for someone to break down and say they know it's a problem and they can't find a solution. But yeah, even I have a hard time getting too close to my mom sometimes.
  5. WOW! Absolutely STUNNING pictures. You both look absolutely gorgeous together, and so happy. I LOVE your shoes! Where did you get them? And your necklace.. and your hair looks great. Everything! Congratulations MRS!!
  6. awe, I know how that feels; my best friend can't come either. I feel so bad when she gets upset about it because I totally understand. It is one of the hard things about having a DW when people you know want to be there can't. HUGS
  7. What an awesome gift! I totally teared up with the letter!
  8. Not selfish at all. This is your wedding and your location is not something you should compromise on. You just need to be prepared that not everyone you want or expect to be there will be. When we first got engaged and I told everyone our plans and my mom also suggested Mexico. She also wanted me to move it to be in the summer or September. The entire reason we chose the winter is because I wanted to be away during the rainy season here. I understand the concern; we are going to an expensive location at the most expensive time. But I'm a teacher, so I am bound by school holidays. I REALLY did not want a summer wedding. Sadly, my best friend and my sister won't be there, but they have made choices that they need to make and I don't have any ill feelings about it. It makes me very sad to know they won't be there, but not enough to make me completely change the course of our wedding. If I did, I know I would regret it. Stick to your guns with this one. You know you want DR, so just as long as your okay with people not being there, don't back down.
  9. Just as an alternative view, I personally have no interest in AI's and would be very disappointed if I had to go to one in order to go to a DW. I would be much happier spending the $80 day pass. It really does depend though- if you want a wedding group who is big into the group scene then it sounds like a good way for you to go. It would never work for my group because every guest is divorced from another! (well not quite, but 6 of the guests there are all split up former couples) Just to offer another perspective. I think it really depends on your group though. I guess you need to decide how you feel if a guest who's really important to you does not want to stay at the AI- will they still be invited?
  10. Yeah, it makes me truly quite sad to hear how little teachers make in the USA. I consider teaching to be one of the most "important" jobs of our society and it makes me sad to hear how undervalued teachers are down south. I often think they're not paid near enough up here for the number of hours and dedication they put into their work, but when I hear of down south I just feel lucky it's not that bad. There are some school districts up north (in our cold cold regions) who make upwards of 100k due to Northern living allowance. (basically the government gives those who live in extremely remote areas a monetary allowance to make up for the cold and remote conditions!) ETA: I don't know why I keep saying "down south" I just mean the US! lol
  11. I feel your pain. I worked in a grocery store for 5 years while in university. Although I will admit that I am one of those people who checks the prices on everything as it goes through the till. I HATE getting home and finding out on my bill that I've been overcharged and then having to go back. Plus, the chain I shop at (and used to work at) has a policy that if the item scans at the incorrect price, you get the item for free (up to a $10 value).
  12. I'm a teacher in my first year substitute teaching and this year I have made about 37K. Teacher salaries are higher in Canada though it seems. Starting full-time teachers with one degree are 40k, teachers with 10 years are 65k, and it's up to 80k for those with masters & 15 years. I hope to get my masters in 10 years or so when I my kids are in school full-time (my non-existent kids- haha)
  13. I agree about your attitude- you handled everything with such grace. I hope they compensate you in some way. That is a lot of mistakes to happen!
  14. Major congratulations! She is a beautiful little girl and nice to hear you are all doing well.
  15. Welcome to the forum! Yet another Seawatch couple! So exciting!!
  16. We did Molokini last time and have decided we have to do it AT LEAST twice this time around It's expensive to take those charters out (I think around $85 each, but that was 2 years ago..) but well worth every penny. The one we went on we booked with our concierge at the condos (the Maui Banyan) and it was about a 6 or 7 hour trip. We went to Molokini, it included breakfast & lunch and the wetsuit/gear if you didn't have your own. Then after Molokini they take you to the other side of the island and we swam with the HUGE sea turtles. It was seriously one of the most amazing and unforgettable moments of our trip. So far we have planned to: - go snorkeling to Molokini - purchase boogie boards (body surf boards) on day 1 for the beach- last time we waited until the end of the trip because we weren't sure they were worth it since we would have to ditch them at the end of the trip, but SO worth it. - go up Haleakala earlier this time (they say you have to arrive for the sunrise but that means leaving at 3 or 4am, and we were too lazy last time) otherwise the clouds cover the island and you can't see much when you're up there - drive all the way to Hana (we never made it the whole way last time) - go to a luau - go on the ziplines - go on a helicopter ride of the island (surprise wedding gift I hope!) - ?? am I missing any obvious must-do?
  17. nope, not interested in the slightest. The ONLY way I would change my mind is if someone lent me one, and then I would incorporate it as my something borrowed. My friend's grandma gave her hers to wear as an unexpected "something old" and I thought it was pretty cute. Although she's wearing it halfway up her calf because her grandma's thighs were so tiny 40 years ago!
  18. hmm... how "old" does the item have to be? I always thought it needed to be at least a generation old. I never considered something of my own.
  19. good to know- thanks for sharing! I can't wait for your wedding review when you get back Susan!
  20. Welcome Kristen! Very happy to have you join us Maui brides- make sure to come over to the Maui forum!
  21. So far I have my something new (dress) and my something blue (earrings).. but I have no idea what I will do for my something borrowed and something old... I would love it if a woman in my family had something to share with me to wear, but I am also a little concerned it won't go with my attire (that's bad, I know). Is this something you can ask for, or should I wait for my shower and see if something is offered? I just want my attire to be finished!
  22. Just wondering how much are you allotting for excursions and fun things during your trip? We only have so much money for the whole thing and I don't want to overdo it on the wedding and then miss out on a few things we could have done as a couple. For example, I really want to take a helicopter ride over Maui, but it's around $250 per person... there are so many cool things like that that are expensive and hard to justify. But it's also one of those things I don't want to miss out on, you know? So far, our budget is like this: about 7K for the wedding itself (including my dress, the rings and his attire- we only have 14 guests) 5K for travel & lodging for us (includes our vehicle rental for the two weeks) so spending?? I am thinking another 2K is reasonable, but is it enough? We will be there for two weeks and eating in our condo for the most part (buying groceries at Costco which we did last time and it worked out fantastic). What have you all allotted?
  23. Hi Danielle! Welcome! I was engaged the same day you were:)
  24. YAY! I had totally forgotten since it's a holiday, so thanks for the reminder! I think this is for the best- I personally think Brad was a douche. Actually most of the bachelors they've had on in the last few seasons have been. This is off topic, but when are they finally going to have a non-white bachelor or bachelorette? It seems like they always have the "token" black girl or guy who never make it to the end. It kind of pisses me off and I wonder if the bachelor or bachelorette were black (or even just another ethnicity) would they fill the girls/guys with that race and have one token white girl/guy? I don't know... just some thoughts.
  25. You look gorgeous in both dresses! They are both perfect for each occasion. Where did you get the shower dress?
