While I think that getting your hair and makeup done is always lots of fun, I would also suggest that you not step too much outside of your box or comfort zone and keep in natural. I love looking at engagement pics of the couple in somewhat natural environment, then see their wedding pics with them all dolled and spiffed (word?) up It doesn't mean you don't look fabulous in your engagement pics, but certainly don't feel like you have to get a pro to make you look good. Engagement pics should focus on the love between you and your FI and that connection will create a beauty of its own, trust me Now if you've got money to burn and are determined to have a pro style you -- then go for it!! Just give yourself some time in between your "makeover" and your photo shoot in case you don't like the look they've given you -- this will give you time to change/fix things if need be. Other than that, find out how many outfit changes your photog allows. And make sure your outfits compliment each other color and stylewise. In our case, we started off with a stylish/dressy set. Then changed into more casual wear (I put on a summer dress) and went to a different venue, lastly we ended up with our college sweaters on for some fun pics. All the while, we made sure we were wearing things that complimented each other and didn't clash. Hope that helps!! can't wait to see how your pics turn out

Hey girls, I am not a MP/GM bride but I have spent one week at the MP and two weeks at the GM -- the most recent being in late June 09 after I got married. The grounds are just beautiful and I have no doubt it is a beautiful place to have a wedding!! I can't wait to see all the pics you ladies end up with The one thing I will say is that while the MP and GM essentially share the same grounds -- MP guests are not allowed to use two main pools that are the Grand Mayan side, and these pools are absolutely AMAZING!!! They differentiate who is staying at each resort by the color of bracelet worn. Also, while both resorts have very nice rooms the GM is a lot newer and nicer. In 2006 we stayed at the MP and thought the rooms were spacious and great. In 2008 DH and I stayed at the GM and noticed the rooms were a bit nicer. But this last time in June we stayed at the GM again and had some family staying at the MP and noticed a big difference in the quality and newness of the accommodations. So that is definitely something to think about if you are undecided as to which branch to make reservations at. But as a whole both are very nice resorts that share most of the same grounds and would offer a spectacular venue for a wedding. If you have any other questions -- please feel free to ask! I also have pictures of the grounds if you'd like to see. Good luck to all

Southern California brides ~ let's do a get together!!!
MarieSam replied to MarieSam's topic in BDW Get Togethers
Hey So Cal brides ~ we never actually did this get-together so if you'd like we can definitely try again!!!! Weekends work for me (except for August 23) -- so how about we throw some dates out there: August 22, 29, 30 or Sept. dates (with the exception of Labor Day weekend as I'm sure many will have other plans or be going outta town)! We were looking at Brea Cheesecake Factory before, that would work again unless you guys have any other suggestions? Let's plan!!!!! -

Private Party boat
MarieSam replied to BellaBeachBabe's topic in Riviera Maya and Cancun Wedding Vendors
Hmmmm.... Malisa is right Akumal being such a small town pretty much shuts down after about 10 p.m. too and most of the boats that leave from there are also smaller ones, so I can imagine they don't have anything that sets sail at night. You might wanna check Puerto Aventuras, which actually has a full marina. PA is about 10-15 minutes north of Akumal so not too much further. They might actually have more options for you. If the boat options don't work out -- I actually got married at an Ecological center/building right on the beach in Akumal and our party was supposed to shut down at midnight but the party went on till 1:30 a.m. ~ loud music, dancing, open bar options and all! Using the center requires only a $500 donation to their ecological programs in town and is a tax write-off. It's an open-air facility right on the most beautiful beach and is totally private to you and your guests. If you have any questions or want to see more pics, send me a PM! Good luck -

Videographer - In desperate seach
MarieSam replied to nscheatham's topic in Riviera Maya and Cancun Wedding Vendors
Quote: Originally Posted by amdecker Can anyone give me an idea of how much a videographer costs? I'm thinking I will need someone to tape through the ceremony, reception and dinner, so maybe 4 hours. Any suggestions? Oh and since I'm staying at the Riu Palace Las Americas in Cancun, I have to pay $100 to bring the videographer on site. So, would it just be better to buy a video camera? I think this definitely depends on how important a good video is for you. The same argument goes with photography -- would you necessarily want to rely on a friend or family member to catch all those important moments? A professional is there for one purpose, to document one of the most important days of your life! The difference between family/friends and a professional taking pictures or shooting video is glaring ~ at first I initially thought photography was of utmost importance to me. But now that the wedding is over I'm DYING to see our video because I want to relive the entire experience -- seeing and hearing things that I didn't get to catch I personally went with Paul Schrank of Playa Weddings Playa Weddings - Video and Photography in Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya ~ he and his assistant were phenomenal and so professional and accommodating on our wedding day. Videography is like photography and can range in prices, it really all depends on how long you want them for. Also make sure to review past work they have done, like photography, styles range from flashy to simple. So make sure you love who you hire! Another perk to hiring a pro is that it usually comes with post-production and editing (this is where they make their real money -- telling the story and editing is hard stuff and time consuming!!!!). But at the end of the day you'll end up with a kick ass video to show everyone! Just my two cents, hope that helps -
Honest reviews are the best reviews, you will help tons of brides with your honesty Kristy! Sorry to hear you didn't have a good experience

The media is certainly harsh with celebrities and their image -- but you know for once, I am glad to see it's not a woman they are going after. Because most of the time, everything is an uproar because some female celebrity gained 5 pounds or isn't as stick skinny as usual, lol. It actually surprised me they even made this a story at all, generally when men gain weight it doesn't even hit a blip on the radar! And even in covering K-Fed's story, they aren't as harsh, almost playful in a sense and simply laugh it off. If he were a she, K-Fed woulda got called every name in the book and had angles galore shown of his body I'm sure.
