Welcome!!!! I got married in Akumal, Mexico about a year ago. It's a fabulous place and definitely one to consider
-
I got married in Akumal and had the most amazing welcome dinner at a private villa on a lagoon and then married on the beach. It's a small fabulous town and either location is PERFECT for a wedding. Our wedding involved 75 people and our budget was similar to yours, which included one week stay at the villa and our plane tix. Hit me up if you want more details!!! Congrats by the way

This thread makes me sad for all you brides who got disappointed by her unprofessionalism and poor ethics What she did to you guys is really terrible, but I'm a true believer of karma!!! I'm glad you are all speaking out because it will be a huge help for brides/grooms planning their big day. BDW is a great source for research*

Oh poo, Jim Carey and Jenny McCarthy split up

I know, I saw that and was ssssooo sad I loved them together because they never searched for publicity as a couple, both are hilarious and are so cute together. Sucks! -

It's waaaaay cheaper than most of the photographers in the Mayan Riviera, and she does awesome work! her blog is Kaylynn Marie Photography By the way MarieSam - I love your pics! Congratulations on a beautiful wedding! Thanks Krista ~ your photographer looks fantastic. Can't wait to see your photos

We flew our photographers to our wedding and it was THE BEST decision we could have possibly made! Unfortunately, the photographers in our area -- the Riveria Maya -- were not in our price range for the type of photography and services we wanted. So we lucked up finding a pair who was willing to shoot our welcome dinner, wedding day and day-after session for costs of travel/accomodations only. This ended up being right in our price range and they were AMAZING photographers as well Here's my link to my post-wedding pics: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...ography-46544/ My best advice is to figure out whether it is cost efficient for you to fly your photographer out to your location and most importantly, if the photographer actually fits the needs and style you are looking for. Like the other gals have said, make sure your venue allows outside photogs to document your wedding because some don't or require some sort of fee to be paid. Good luck on whatever you eventually decide!

I got married on June 26th last year (2009) -- we stayed for two weeks and had beautiful weather. There was a storm that passed through the area for two days, but in all honesty whenever you're in a tropical climate, showers and rainfall are bound to happen at some point. Nevertheless June is a beautiful time to visit the area -- I've been there twice in June and it's not too hot and a little rain also helps clear the air. If you want to marry in June, I say go for it! I did, and have absolutely no regrets

However I'm not sure I'm sold on the AI commercial "feel" of most resorts for "our day" and would like to look into more private offsite locations for the ceremony & candlelight dinner such as Haciendas or ruins or historical church or something like that. We plan on having somwhere between 50-70 guests. Any ideas? Any local photographers here that might know of such venues? I got married at the CEA Center in Akumal, which is in between Playa and Tulum and one of the most beautiful little towns in the world!!! The place is completely private and requires a $500 donation to the town's ecological programs to use the venue. Here's my initial post when I visited the place: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...ns-pics-31355/ We hired a videographer -- Playa Weddings -- to cover our Mayan wedding ceremony and reception. He created a 10-minute wedding movie that captures the essence and main events of our day and that can be viewed online. You can watch it here: MarieSam & Tommy's Wedding Day Edit on Vimeo We also have a few teaser pics posted online from our wedding photographer here: Mariesam + Tommy | wedding Stephanie Williams Photography Blog I have tons more pro pics, but have yet to post them on here! The place is really perfect if you're searching for a non-resort alternative. We also had our Welcome Dinner/Mexican Fiesta at a nearby villa, Casa Romero, which was equally fantastic! Having our wedding on Akumal Bay and our reception at the CEA Center was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding -- although are wedding as a whole was really perfect for us and we wouldn't have changed anything if we had to do it again! If you have anymore questions, please feel free to ask!
