  1. Just need a bit of clarification... So the actual paper you take home with you from RIU stating 'certified copy of marriage register' will be ok to change you name at SS office? or do I need to wait 6-8 weeks to get the official copy from RIU mailed to me before I attempt to change my name? Thanks! kelly
  2. I had half a bottle of tequila last weekend - which seemed to help.. I bought a dress back in feb. but the seamstress (or so she calls herself) could not make the dress fit me.. the dress doesnt fall off my body, but it is not flattering and it doesnt fit my chest. The top of the dress is a size 6 trying to fit a size 0... and she was unwilling to do what it took to fix it. She was terrible. She missed/no show to 2 fittings and could bearly finish one task in between to total of 5 fittings we had... and the dress is actually very plain... So I was forced to get a second one... and I'm waiting for it to arrive! I've been in contact with the management at ROR and they are unwilling to move the hotel's beach party sat. night so we can use the Seagrape.. Does any know if this has been done before? OR maybe I dont want to know... Thanks for listening.. kelly
  3. Hi, I haven't posted in awhile.. but my wedding is about 2.5- 3 weeks away (Aug. 30 at 2 pm)! So far I dont have my dress yet, cannot book the seagrape bar for the reception (due to the hotel's beach party) - and the pool side location is already booked, and just found out the the person who normally cuts/colors my hair has left the salon (with no forwarding address)... So i am a little stressed. I'm trying to keep my spirts up... but it seems like one thing after another is not working out. I guess its Jamaica.. .no problem mon. Kelly
  4. I've recently contacted someone at ROR to try to reserve the Seagrape... but they have informed me that it will be used for the hotel's beach party the night of my wedding. Does anyone know if there is another beach bar or outside alternative to have a reception? Can you hire a DJ for an outside reception at the Seagrape? Thanks! kelly
  5. Thanks for all the advice! I think it might be too late for me! My wedding is about 3 months away now! I actually started out using a TA, but felt that I was doing most of the leg-work and her prices were not nearly as competitive as what I thought they should be. In fact, if I had not booked my wedding on line with ROR when I did (which was actually months ago), I would probably not have the reservation made at all with the popularity of ROR and the time slots filling up so fast. And when she didn't reply to our calls/emails... my fiancé and I decided we needed to book our rooms (which we wanted the Jacuzzi suite) fast before those got all booked too! But if it weren't for this forum - I would be clueless! Which I will say, sometimes ignorance IS bliss.... Because ultimately the most important thing is that we are married and details can really stress me out! Amazingly, I have actually started to relax a bit and enjoy planning this whole thing.... But now I'm worried that all these great ideas for the ceremony and reception will be booked! So I sent an email directly to Chandyln with specific questions and am now waiting for a replay with a slight fear that our wedding was never really booked or that it is double booked.... j/k.
  6. Anyone planning your ROR wedding without a travel agent - or am I the only one? I haven't yet heard from ROR to discuss details and understood that most arrangements could be made 1-2 months prior to the date when ROR would make the first contact. How are all the ROR brides making early arrangements? THANKS! Kelly
  7. Any one trashed their dress with the help of the ROR provided photographer? I think I would like to trash my dress too (or a dress), but time is quickly approaching my wedding date and I was just planning on using the photographer from the resort - for cost and ease of planning .... any suggestions? Kelly
  8. My fiance's uncle is a presbyterian pastor. We were hoping that he could marry us where ever we decided to get married. We decided on Riu Ocho Rios. Does anyone know if family members can perform the ceremony? I emailed the hotel and got this response... "I would like to inform you that as all ceremonies at Jamaica are legal, you can bring your own pastor but the Jamaican Minister has to perform the wedding and sign the all paperwork as the pastor has not legal bearing in Jamaica." How involved in the actual ceremony does that mean the jamaican minister will be? Has anyone has a family member perform the ceremony? Thanks! Kelly
  9. Sorry! Failed to mention the wedding location! The wedding is at Riu Ocho Rios. I have also heard that it is difficult to get in touch with the WC there prior to arrival. thanks, kelly
  10. Hi.. So... My wedding is scheduled for Aug 30, 2008 (about 4 months away)... about 40 guests scheduled to attend. I have found out so many options for weddings receptions/ceremony/photography etc ..... on this website, it has given me such comfort/stress relief reading all the reviews and pictures! I cannot describe in words what this forum is worth.. Anyway, Does anyone know how far in advance one has to reserve rehearsal dinners, reception options, photography…etc. I guess I am a little worried that with two or three other weddings scheduled for the same day there might be some overlap in desires for events… I would be fine scheduling details when we arrive, but will be disappointed if options are limited due to timing! Thanks again, Kelly

  12. Hi all! A week ago, I have finalized the location of our ceremony in ROR. I thought the stress would be over, but now i have to plan the reception back home (atlanta) for those who cannot make it to Jamaica. The party will be 2-4 weeks after the wedding. Any suggestions for the reception? Is a destination wedding reception similar to a regular wedding reception? Do we still have to have the traditional elements: father/bride and mother husband dances, cutting a cake, etc... or is it just a party? THanks, Kelly
