Oh yes, especially those BEAUTIFUL ballads by Tarrus Riley ("She's Royal") & Alaine ("Rise in Love")! How about Gyptian ("Beautiful Lady"), Jah Cure ("Place called Jamaica," "Longing For"), Etana ("Warrior Love"), and Pressure ("Love & Affection")?
  3. Those pictures are so gorgeous.... and I love the dress. You had a beautiful wedding!! Congratulations!
  4. Ooh- this is a good one! Don't forget Beres Hammond, Marcia Griffiths, Ken Boothe, Toots & the Maytals, Eric Donaldson (Cherry Oh Baby)... My parents, aunts, uncles like old-school soca too: Byron Lee & Dragonnaires.
  5. -there are lots of helpful people on this board!

And what other resorts were you looking at? Just curious Yes- he responds very quickly and I liked that. Plus, I'm anticipating a large group and we wanted to have an open bar & dinner with more than one meal option for the reception... in that respect, it seemed to be one of the most reasonably-priced boutique hotels on the cliffs. Plus they didn't require a certain number of guests to occupy a percentage of rooms in order to have the wedding there.

  8. I just found this and I thought I'd share for any Negril brides. http://www.negrilinfo.com/sitebuilde...rilmap0408.pdf Page 3 lists all of the hotels on the beach, and page 4 has all of the cliff hotels.

She doesn't live too far so FI & I are going to meet her downtown Chicago one day to take them. I have a few locations in mind, but if any Chicago girls have ideas on scenic locations in the city for our e-pics, please share!
  10. I totally slept right through it but I got to work today and my co-workers were talking about how it woke them up & their apartment buildings were shaking...
  11. from another Negril bride!
  12. I found Negril Escape- it's on the cliffs. They have wedding packages & catered receptions, with no minimum stay requirements, and the manager is really good about responding to e-mails. The Negril Escape Resort & Spa
  13. If anybody has any suggestions for a Negril-area TTD location, please post 'em too! :-)
  14. If it's warm out, the architechture boat tour is really nice and pretty affordable. Here's a link to the free stuff to do in Chicago: Free Chicago on Chicago Citysearch
  15. As far as hotels near Navy Pier go... the W Chicago Lake Shore is very close. Not sure how the rates compare to what your MIL found, but worth checking out...
  16. On tripadvisor, someone recommended photographer Ryan Lue-Clarke as well. His prices are reasonable. Ryan Lue-Clarke Photography : A New Way To See Jamaica
  17. Thanks! We're meeting in person next month and she said she'll take some engagement photos for us too. We had originally decided not to do engagement photos, but now we have a reason!! P.S. I found a bunch of bridal contests/freebies at weddingbee.
  18. I like the idea of the silver gel pen- I think it would show up really well. Have you tested it out on the paper color?
  19. I'm glad somebody you brought this up. My parents are Jamaican too and they want a rum cake but I know we've got to have a yellow cake for FI's side too. Somebody mentioned doing a split-layer cake (traditional rum cake/yellow cake): have you had this before & how did it work out?
