Perhaps it's b/c the resort is so new and they are on a huge learning curve. It's funny, the differences b/w the Carribean package and tropical package are definately not worth $400 to us: fruit basket, steamed wedding clothes, and continental breakfast. When you factor in the difference from $50 pp to $100 pp, I'll take those extra perks. I think I got most of my answers because I went down there and spoke to Charmaine in-person for an hour.... It seems like it does take a lot longer to get an answer via email.
I also asked about doing that same thing (getting the Tropical Package and upgrading to the private reception at Blue Lagoon), and Charmaine told me that by doing that, you'd have to create a set menu.
Blue Lagoon is only open for breakfast and lunch, so that's the only way you can have it for dinner. And the set menus for a private dinner outside of the Caribbean package would be much more expensive than $50/person.
