  1. Maura, I agree with you, with less than 90 days left, if they haven't booked it than it's their own damn fault if they can't afford it and NOT something you should be stressing about! I think it might be more of a concern for those of us with weddings in Nov or later (not to say others with weddings before Nov. arent' concerned). For me, our wedding is in mid Jan....still over 8 months away. Many of our guests feel they have pleanty of time. I keep urging my parents and my sister to book their air. Even though I know they'll be there no matter what the cost, I don't want to see them get screwed over. And we have a couple of friends who really want to be there and we really want them to be there but they don't know if they can pull it off financially, so they have to wait until closer...it's those guests that I'm mostly concerned about with the airfair. That and I want everyone to get the best prices possible So far only FI and I have booked...I know we're the only two that count, but it would be nice if some others could join us
  2. Jenny, wanna switch? My FI doesn't want to build it, but we don't have the money to pay someone outright to do it...so he's doing it because he has to. At least your's WANTS to do it LOL I don't care how grumpy FI is about it, I'm excited that I'll get to use the other 2/3 of my yard But I know how proud he'll be when it's done (as long as the monsters we call dogs don't destroy it)
  3. I have a feeling that will be my job also...get the beer, order the pizza and maybe make some kind of COLD treat for them
  4. Our back yard is 40x25'. When we bought the house it already had a 14x25' deck right off of the house. We've been talking about extending the deck for the rest (or most) of the yard to help cut back on the amount of mud the dogs track in. We contacted HomeDepot to build the deck...after a few weeks of playing phone tag with them I get someone on the phone and after about 10 minutes (and getting my zip code three times) they tell me that they don't do decks in NYC. Upsetting since we were banking on being able to use the HD card and no interest for 12 months. FI is super handy, but lazy...we know this, we accept this FI's partner at work has built decks before and told him it would only take a weekend and he is going to help him! The good news is that since we are saving on labor, we can get the trecks instead of regular wood and we can still use the HD card for the supplies!!! I'm very excited! FI has to dig a drywell and is goign to start this weekend. While he does that I am going to replace the crummy metal slats in the chain link fence with the plastic, pretty kind. I'm just excited and wanted to share

  6. OMG those are great! I wish I knew how many people I'm having at my AHR. I'll bookmark them and hopefully they'll still have them closer to the date!
  7. I'm in the same boat...freaking about airfair. As of right now, you can book round trip for 2 people for under $1000, I can't imagine what it's going to be come August. I just sent otu a post card with all the booking information and a note on the bottom that says "We are not trying to rush anyone, but if you are planning on coming, we suggest you book at least your air ASAP. As prices are expected to skyrocket this summer". Even if it does go down, it won't go as low as it is now. Espeically if it goes up significantly. Yes, if it's August and you're ready to book, you might be better off waiting until Mid-Sept...but you're better off booking now, before they go up so much that even when they go down they aren't as low. I don't know if what I wrote made any sense...I think it was just jumble. Can you tell I'm freaking too?
  8. I just had them hold a group of rooms for me. We had the option to either put 10% down on each room, or just pay for our room in full. We decided to pay for our room in full for 5 nights (wasn't putting $ down on anyone elses room!) and told them we would probably be extending our stay, but needed to check with work first (we are going to stay for 10 nights, but I didn't want to shell out almost $5k upfront). At first they wanted to know the dates and people who would be attending...Um, we are just starting this, I don't know who is going to decide to come! But then it turned out she just wanted an idea so she knew how many rooms to block out for our contract. And it is ok if people stay longer or shorter times. We had her hold 10 rooms Thursday night and 25 rooms for Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Hope that helps.
  9. They really do look great! Another amazing job by Sarah! Your guests are going to LOVE them
  10. I agree with Lucky about reading your posts I love them...but have to read really slowly to understand. Anyway, yeah, I'd say get rid of her now. Definately as your MOH and maybe even as your friend. I can't believe she actually told you she swapped the gifts out. That would be the last time her kid got a gift from me!
  11. I don't think they suck at all! I agree, that maybe a pic of you two will make it more personal. Our announcements are going to say: He slipped the ring on her finger A promise made for life… Join us as we share their joy Now that they are man and wife. Desiree XXXX and Christopher XXXX Exchanged Wedding Vows on January 17, 2009 in Cancun, Mexico
  12. I agree that a DJ is 100% less important than a Photog!! That's what ticked me off in the first place. I have to go find FSIL's receipts and see what she paid. She got married this past August and gave me all her vendor info (when we were planning a full wedding here). Prices in NYC are super high and they get even higher when you add the word "Wedding". It is definatelly something I'm going to look into.
  13. Here's the Jean-Marcus link http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t19456 Also, check this out, I put in Cancun, Feb 2008 and the average sunset was around 5:30-5:45. If you do the 5PM ceremony, and it ends at 5:30, you'll have almost no daylight time left. http://www.sunrisesunset.com/calendar.asp
  14. I'm going to say 3PM. We have a 2PM ceremony for much of the same reason. Jean-Marcus actually has a thread about that from a few weeks ago. I guess he shot a wedding and the sun set on them fast, so he warned us about that. I'll see if I can find it....
  15. They might charge us to rent equipment, but he also has stuff he can bring. The only reason we said and his wife is because it's a $40 difference per night for the room, so it's $120 more for her. I think we might tell him he has to cover her airfair. He still needs to make sure he's open that weekend. No we haven't heard him before, but I know other coworkers of FI have used him, and last year he did a wedding in the Bahamas. Once he tells us he's free that weekend, we'll sit down with him and iron out details (ie: what we're paying for and what he's doing for us). If he doesn't do both events (Mexico and here) for the cost of the trip then it's definatley not worth it for us.
  16. UGH! OK.... So about a month or so ago, I was freaking out about the resorts photog and I wanted to bring one from home. FI was annoyed that I even suggested it, part of the reson we're going to Mexico is to save money. Ok, so anyway, I've seen photo of other Moon Palace brides on here and I am comfortable using their photog. So now the topic of a DJ comes up. I was thinking of just renting the speaker system from the resort and using an ipod, FI wanted to use a DJ beacuse there's less stress and suff like that. Ok, we can get one through the resort for about $400 (for 4 hours I think)...not too bad. Then he tells me a guy he works with DJ's on the side (not someone invited to the wedding) and he wants to offer to pay for his and his wife's trip if he does the music. I tell FI ok, but ask him to wait for me to look up the average price of a wedding DJ here. FI says ok. Calls me back about 20 minutes later and tells me he spoke to the guy and asked what his average price is for a wedding ($1400) and then explains that we're getting married in Mexico and then a month or two later will have an at home reception and if he's interested, we'll pay for his trip (and his wife) if he DJ's for us. The guy is interested and as long as he's free that weekend he'll come. The room will come to about $1350 for 3 nights and then airfair....so we'll assume about $2350 total for he and his wife. I didn't think that would be too bad and am ok with it considering we'll probably have a 2 hr coctail hr and a 4hour reception in Mexico and then an average 4 hr reception here. I guess it just bugs me that when it came to Photog FI couldn't believe I'd consider brining someone from home, and pics are forever. Now he wants to bring a DJ from home for a couple of hours of music..... Ok, vent over...
  17. Oh, and if you search, there are a couple of threads that are helpful. Betsy posted pics of her recent weddding (she used the resort photog) and I started a thread with pics that the FL office sent and I know others have added to it
  18. I'm getting marriend there 1/17/09...feel free to ask my any quesitons you want
  19. I'm getting married at the Moon Palace on January 17!!!!! Maybe I'll see you there Happy planning
  20. I use snapfish.com. It's free and if you want to order prints, you have the option of sending them to Walgreens or Staples and picking them up in an hour.
  21. Haha, the list will never end! FI wanted to do everything at once, but I handle to money LOL We've agreed to do 1 big project a year. Last summer we redid the upstairs bathroom, this summer we are going to do the backyard (fix the fence and deck the rest of the yard) next year the plan is to renovate downstairs and then the BIG project...upstairs. But one thing at a time, because as you're doing all these projects other things come up that can't be put off (sewar drainig pipe blocked up by tree routs....3 times in 2 1/2 years). Good luck on all your projects!!
