  1. No worries, Heidi! This forum has actually been very relaxing for me and a good support system! I just found an e-mail from him. Our contact at Events & Wedding Cancun is Raffaele and his e-mail is [email protected]. He's great. He'll send you sample photos. In terms of pricing, I don't know if its the best but its certainly better than $4500.
  2. for my dress fitting it was a total charge. I think I had it taken in 3 times. (Go spinning class and yoga!) if you are planning on losing weight and wearing a bustier then you can just have your bustier on at the tightest. As you lose weight it will get more comfortable, but it will be easier for the seamstress to get at your final size sooner. This might be good particular if she charges per visit. Good luck!
  3. I'm so happy our little group has increased! Rhoda - When I said "tentatively" booked. I just booked to reserved the space until I made my final decision after my site visit. I'm getting married during high season. Jen - As for dinner, I ended up going with the buffet option much to the dismay of my fiance. But I wanted a more social atmosphere since we're doing the lounge furniture. More dancing and less time at the dinner table since we're have a lot guests. They give you four entree choices and three different buffets to choice from. Heidi - $4500?!?!?! AAHHHH! now that seems crazy to me. Ours is costing less than half that much. Just about $2000 and its for 60 people. What extras did you order? The company is called Events & Weddings. As for the over-booking, I was VERY worried about that also. I had all my guests book directly with the resort instead of using a travel agent so they have reservation numbers directly from the resort. When I had my site visit, I noticed that the people getting bumped or had issues were calling their travel agents to complain. My sister and I just walked up to the desk and we had a reservation number so all was well. Maybe because the agencies get the rooms at superlow prices so they are the first to get bumped off? Your guess it as good as mine! Initially, I was using this company called DestinationWeddings.com but they didn't do a very good job. One of my friends was using them also and is currently having problems but is too far along into her wedding to bother to switch. Let's see if I made the right decision! Fingers crossed. I wanted Elizabeth Medina also! We exchanged e-mail early on but ended up being booked on my wedding day. Matt Addock (Sol's new hubby) will be photographing my wedding and I'm so excited!! Book the photographers early because they are in demand. Zulma is probably busy with my wedding! LOL. I just heard back from her today about flower quotes. I didn't like the book that Patty showed us. They just tell you to send them pictures and they will get quotes for you. The bridal bouquet is included in your wedding package. 12 more days... I will have SO MANY answers for you when I get back!
  4. Becky!! Congratulations! How was your hair and make-up? I see you did it with the spa? Did you to any trials before? It might be too late for me but the mariachi info would be good. I'm sure I'll have more questions.
  5. AMAZING!!!!! I also have to admit tearing up during that slide show. I'm also getting married at the Royal at the end of the month so that was so inspiring!
  6. Is it possible to get it altered? I bought my dress at a sample sale and its a size 10. I'm a size 4! The seamstress did a wonderful job! Also, you can consider a bustier to give you more padding. Just don't make it a tightening one. One of my bridesmaids is thinking of doing that since her strapless became loose in lieu of taking it in. Good Luck!
  7. Thanks everyone! Just a few weeks away! I wish I found this place sooner... But I'm more than happy to share all my experiences with everyone!
  8. Hi Ladies! The location of the Royal is IDEAL! Its a block away from all the action but still a beautiful resort retreat for luxury and relaxation. Guests will have so many options besides just hanging out at the resort. The town of Playa del Carmen is SO charming! We're doing a bachelorette party there also and will venture out to the clubs, just walking distance away. There is a beautiful ballroom that is also an option for receptions and as alternative for bad weather for outdoor receptions. It looks like a 5 star hotel ballroom that you'd see in the US. The price is the same regardless where you have it. You can also have your reception in the garden area which is on the grass near the statues of the mariachis in the resort photos or near the gazebo where it is paved. The only thing you cannot do is take over a restaurant just for your party.
  9. Here is my dress that I fell in love with... probably faster than I feel in love with my future husband! LOL! It was the first dress I tried on then after that store, I was done. I had my final fitting yesterday. I'm so excited!!! Carolina Herrera - Carolina Herrera - Spring 2006 Collection
  10. Hi Stephanie! I think I found the direct e-mail of Patty, the coordinator at the time in a Destination Wedding Magazine. I started contact with the resort in May of last year, tentively booked and did a site visit in early August then officially booked. The down side is that they do book multiple wedding ceremonys on the same day. There are cancellations and they do not require deposits when you reserve. I'm no longer doing my ceremony at the resort gazebo but when I was I had a 5:00 slot so it could flow directly to the cocktail and beach reception. Initially when I booked, the 5pm time was already taken and they had me at 3. I wanted to cry. Luckily that other wedding cancelled. Some weddings are very small though. 10 people or less so its not so terrible. Its sweet to see.
  11. our wc and other supplier in Playa del carmen are giving us a no on the sparklers. has anyone had sparklers at a wedding it that area? and how did you get them?
  12. thanks Heidi! my resort is on there and i'm going to check it out right now!
  13. Initially, when we did the booking back in July/August we told them we would have a minimum of 60 guests and maybe as many as 100. We are pretty much at 100 now with more than75% staying at The Royal. We also guaranteed them a good amount of guests booking early on with deposits. That might have helped. What about you?
  14. I agree with Heidi, the Presidential wedding package, which is what you are probably referring to, was too much for us. You would get a free wedding ceremony package and an upgrade for your wedding party. I'm actually have my wedding ceremony at a nearby Catholic Church not on the grounds and my cocktail and reception at the Royal. The majority of my guests will be at the Royal with just the few with kids or who didn't want to splurge as much as us at the Gran Porto. They are very flexible about doing events at either places and I didn't encounter any restrictions. We are doing a rehearsal dinner at the Gran Porto. I'm not exactly sure why I'm only getting charged $10 for my cocktail while Heidi is getting charged more. It might depend on the number of guests you are expecting/confirmed or maybe they have raised their prices since then. Keep the questions coming!
  15. What beautiful pictures!! Matt Addock is photographing my wedding and I'm so excited! I didn't order the wedding album from them. Was it a lot extra and what does it look like? How big are all the pictures? * is your dad in a barong? My dad is going to wear one, too. Perfect for the beach!
  16. Thank you Heidi! My sister (and wedding planner/life saver) is in touch with Zulma. We are also doing the lounge furniture set up on the beach! Great minds think alike! The florist Zulma recommended seemed a little pricey to me so we might end up with another one. I will keep you guys posted. After we get back from Mexico, I can definitely give a full report and have photos, too! oh -- also, I think the having cocktails as well as appetizers before the reception is a $10 extra charge per person.
  17. If I had only known about this post 6 months ago, I swear I was the one writing it! But as I just joined and will be married in Playa del Carmen, Mexico at the end of this month, I can tell you the last month has been great! I'm getting more excited by the day and focusing more on all the wonderful people who are going out of their way to join us (and thanking us for putting everything together as an excuse to get out of town!) instead of the people that aren't. Lots of people have been calling and IM-ing also expressing similar excitement. And for those regrets, the gifts and cards have started to pile up! Its a temporary place that you are in. I think I was there for a good couple of months during the planning. We're also doing 2 celebration parties for our families back at home after Mexico.
  18. We got engaged after a year and a half and he proposed on my birthday weekend. It was a great birthday surprise
  19. Hi Stephanie! First, congratulations!! I'm getting married at The Royal on March 29. Just a few weeks away! All my guests with children are staying at the Gran Porto as well as guests who don't want to spend as much or stay longer and travel. Its good to have the option of a less expensive sister hotel next door. Children are allowed at all the wedding events. We are doing a cocktail hour at the gazebo and a reception on the beach. They have a per person charge based on how many guests you have and where they are staying. Dance Floors and speakers are included, I think. But if you talk to Walter, reception coordinator and Patty, the wedding ceremony coordinator, they can probably give you more specifics in terms on pricing. We got a mariachi band and a DJ. Send me a message if you have any more specific questions! I'd be happy to help!
  20. Hi everyone! I just wanted people to know that the prices for platinum have dramatically gone up. I did so much price comparison for my fiance's wedding band and the best deal I got was at Tiffany's! Tiffany's was $800 less than Blue Nile and i-weddingbands.com! The jewelers are telling me this is because jewelers that already have their rings, like Tiffany's, purchased the platinum before the price increase. If your ring is getting made-to-order, its priced based on the current rate of platinum. Good luck, everyone! Just wanted to share my findings *** also, the exact same ring at Jared's was $200 more than at Tiffany's.
