  1. I wish I had seen this thread sooner! I'm posting anyway, mostly because I loved my veil so much. When I was planning my wedding, I wasn't even sure whether or not I'd get a veil. Then I tried a few on and found this one, and I knew I had to wear this veil. For me, it ended up being as important as my dress, and it was so much fun. It also made for some amazing pics imho! I think this one shows how shear my veil was. I loved how it kind of just floated around my face without taking away: This one is obviously from when I was getting ready on the day. I've included it because I think it shows the detail on the veil really well.
  2. Wednesday, Dec 16 @ 10:22pm. Also relaxing on the couch with my dog and DH! Just got home from very fun office xmas party. Hoping will not be hungover in the morning.
  3. Yeah, it's totally crazy, and think it's a definite. In fact, I think (based on the Who's Who... Nadine will know what this means) we are like 2 floors apart, on the same freaking side of the building!
  4. You're not out of place Kris, just more interesting than the rest of us, ha ha! Interior design sounds awesome - I'm jealous!!

  6. We went to a luau for our rehearsal dinner, at the Wailea Marriott (we were having our ceremony on the hotel grounds). People loved it. We would have done one of the luaus up by Lahaina, but we since we were having the wedding in Wailea, we wanted to stay on the south side. Further to everyone else's comments, I've heard really good things about Hula grill too.
  7. So cute - congrats!! I love having a dog, it's so much fun!!!
  8. I was just wondering if anyone else has a pending online order from Anthropologie and is waiting longer than usual for it? I placed an order on Nov 29th, and it was supposed to take 7-10 days to deliver. I know it has only been 13 days, which I suppose isn't that much past the 10, but the thing that's concerning me is that when I pull up the tracking information, nothing appears to have happened on it since Dec 2nd. That seems like a really long time for a package to just sit at some postal office or something without at least moving to another outlet. I emailed Anthropologie about it, and they were extremely apologetic and have put a trace on the package, but apparently it could take 7-10 days to find out anything. I realize things are slower right now because of the holidays, etc., but I was just wondering if anyone else is waiting longer than usual for a package from Anthropologie. Mostly, I'm just hoping that it's a general slowness with these orders right now, which would give me hope that it's still going to come!

I've done this with mine too, and it works super well!
  10. Engineering tech sounds like a great option Cara. It's so hard to decide though!
  11. I had a crazy day and I feel like I missed so much on this thread. Have just finally gotten caught up on BDW and it's time to go to bed. And Cara, I really don't think you can have too much education. Something, even short courses, always comes in handy! I love how people switch careers so much now, especially compared to in the past. I love being a lawyer, but sometimes I'll start thinking maybe I should be a chef (could I find two more opposite professions), then I'll go out to the field for a day and start thinking I want to be an engineer. Apparently I'm just plain indecisive!!
  12. Our ceremony was on grass, and our pictures were on the beach (no TTD) and my dress really wasn't that bad after the wedding. The edges did get a little bit wet when we were doing pictures, and I think that got rid of most of the dirt from the sand. Looking back though, I really don't know how it didn't get dirtier than it did - I wonder if it helped that it didn't have lace on the bottom. So weird though!
  13. Okay, I just saw this thread now, and I'm totally reviving it. It's awesome! Here's mine... When our flower girl decided that she was tired of tossing the petals a handful of time, so just turned over her basket and dumped them all out in the middle of the aisle. When she was done, she clapped her hands and shouted "yay!". It was hilarious!! I can't explain it, but I can never get over this little guy in his sunglasses. He wore them until the sun went down, and it was so adorable and hilarious at the same time!
  14. In our creepy little O&G small world, I'm sure we know him too Christina!
  15. I'm sure it's totally the land thing. I'm a lawyer in oil and gas, and until the last year or so, I did a bunch of land work for my company, so was at a lot of those events too. Yay, now I don't feel so crazy that it was bugging me! I'm also relieved that I'm not the only creepy one, lol!
  16. That was probably me - we live in the north, so Market is usually the mall we go to... I was there that weekend! This will also sound creepy, but I swear your FI is familiar from somewhere. Is he an engineer? I'm in oil and gas (like most of Calgary, lol), and for some reason, every time I see your siggy picture, I totally associate him with work (and in particular, the engineers) for some reason. I keep thinking we must have been at the same meeting one time or something - so weird... It might just be that he looks like one of the engineers at my office, but I can't figure it out, and it keeps bugging me. 17. I just had a look at the Frocks website, and man, do they ever have cute dresses!! I wish I'd known about that place when we were looking for my BM dresses. I was happy with the dresses we ended up finding, but I kept wishing for a place with really cute BM dresses like these!
  18. Nadine, I'm so sorry to hear that you didn't have a good experience with Evalina. It's so funny, because I found her to be so sweet, and I actually missed her after my wedding was over! One of my girlfriends got her dress from Evalina too, and she also loved her. Maybe she was having an off day with you or something? She told me once how every bride she's ever worked with has ended up losing weight before their wedding, just from stress, etc., even when they insisted that there was no way they would be losing any weight before the wedding. I wonder if she was meaning something like that with you, but it just came out wrong? I don't know about the putting down $150 just to try on dresses... I didn't have to do that when I was looking. It must be a new thing. That sounds very weird - I'm not sure I would have been alright with that!! At any rate, I'm so sorry to hear about your experience. It is such a personal thing, that whole dress shopping experience. I had so many friends who loved the Bridal Centre and Ethos and I was so frustrated with both places, and felt like Evalina was the only one who got me and what I wanted. It really does so depend on the person and how they click with the salesperson, I think. I'm glad you found the right dress for you though! The first time I went there it was on a tuesday (where you dont have to put down $150 JUST to try on dresses- most ridiculas thing ever) and liked some of the dresses but found Evalina quite abrasive.. when a vera wang dress I liked was a tad too tight, but was a sample so i had to buy it as is, she actually had the nerve to say to me 'but you will lose weight before the wedding right?' and I just looked at her and said 'um no, if anything i will be gAINING weight'. Totally turned me off.
  19. We didn't use agent or do OOT bags - we were very lazy!!! We didn't have an AHR per se, but did have a little party at our house about 2 months after we got back. We found the BM dresses at Femme de Carriere (definitely not traditional BM dresses). I got my dress and veil at Evalina Couture and I cannot say enough good things about Evalina. I absolutely love that woman! She just "got" me. I had been to the Bridal Centre and Ethos first, saving Evalina's for last, and at both Ethos and the Bridal Centre, they could not seem to accept that I wanted my dress to have really clean lines and I didn't want strapless (it just does not look good on me). Then I went to Evalina's, and it was like she could read my mind. I ended up getting a Romona Keveza dress there and my veil was by Evalina. I know people who've had great luck at the Bridal Centre and Ethos though, so I think maybe they just weren't a fit for me, but could totally be for someone else. That said, I very highly recommend Evalina's!!!
  20. Ana, these pics are beautiful! Everything looked amazing, and you looked gorgeous. I really loved that song for the slideshow.
  21. What I would do again… 1. Have the DW in Maui (particularly Wailea). It was so beautiful - an amazing setting for the wedding, and all of our guests loved it. 2. Hire Mike Sidney for photography. We both love the pictures so much. I am so, so glad that we chose him. 3. Hire videographers and in particular, hire Hawaii Video Memories for videography. We got the video in January, and I still love watching it. They did such an amazing job. 4. Have the wedding just before sunset. 5. Go to Lanai, Molokai and Maui on our honeymoon. 6. Take 2 and a half weeks for our honeymoon. 7. Have Jessica Waite for make-up and Dan Sanchez for hair. 8. Have the reception at the Seawatch. We loved it, and the food was amazing. The chocolate mousse dessert was unbelievable. Some of our guests still talk about it! 9. Have the ceremony on the grounds of the Wailea Marriot. I can't imagine a more perfect place for a wedding ceremony. 10. Have our wedding pictures on Wailea Beach. So pretty, and we really lucked out with the most incredible sunset. 11. Wear my veil. I loved it so much, and the photographer made great use of it in the pictures. 12. Go to Longhi's for breakfast with my BM's on the morning of the wedding and order lobster benedict. 13. Bring an extra suitcase that I could send home with my BM after the wedding, so I wasn't lugging everything with me for the whole honeymoon. 14. Wait until we got to Hawaii before we did the wedding favours. It was a little stressful, but I was so glad to be able to use local favours and it saved us having to pack them when we flew. 15. Arrive a week before the wedding. What I wouldn't do again… 1. I wouldn't sleep away from FI the night before the wedding. We had lived together for almost 2 years when we got married, but for tradition's sake, we thought we should sleep apart the night before the wedding. I hadn't really thought about the fact that I can't sleep very well without him anymore. I had so much trouble falling asleep the night before the wedding, and I was so tired in the morning. He's so good a getting me to come down when I'm a stress case, and I so missed having him that night. Thank goodness the adrenaline and excitement on the day of the wedding more than made up for the lack of sleep. On another note, we had our wedding at 5:00pm, and all day long, I kept missing him so much. I was really wishing that we'd stayed at the hotel together the night before, because I so wanted to have seen him that morning. 2. I wouldn't have hair + make-up + manis/pedis on the day of the wedding. I'd still have the hair and make-up on the day of, but I'd have the manis/pedis the day before. We did a giant hair/makeup/mani/pedi appointment the afternoon of the wedding, and it ended up being really rushed because the esthetician took FOREVER on everyone's nails. We ended up not having any time for 'getting ready' pictures with the photographer back at the hotel because of it. I had all of about 10 minutes (if that!) to get into my dress once we got back to the hotel before the wedding. If I had it to do over again, I'd definitely do nails the day before the wedding. 3. I wouldn't care that SIL sister didn't come. We spent way too much time and energy worrying about that. If I could do it over, I'd just say whatever! 4. Spend so much time on Molokai on the honeymoon. It was such a lovely place, but it's SO quiet. We booked a week there, and after about 4 days, we were pretty much done. We ended up heading back to Maui on the 4th day, and spent the rest of our time there. We were happier having a little more to do. 5. Spend so little time on Lanai on the honeymoon. Lanai is really quiet too, but there's a lot more to do there than Molokai. We also really loved Hotel Lanai where we stayed. 6. Forget to plan our transportation from photos to the reception! We actually forgot this. To this day, I don't know how on earth we missed it, but there we were after pictures, with no ride. The wedding party had headed over to the reception already since their part of the pictures was done, and we forgot to have the car sent back for us! We ended up driving our little rental car over to the reception. It was actually pretty funny, and will always be something that makes us laugh. 7. I wouldn't have the WC arrange the photographer and videographer. I'd do this myself instead, so that we'd have the direct relationship with them. Thank goodness they worked out well, but I think it would have been even better if we had talked to them personally ahead of time. We definitely would have booked them for a little more time – at least for the beginning of the reception. 8. Move into a new house a month before we left for the wedding. What were we thinking?!
  22. Either of those days would work for me too!
