ROR Brides - Chuppa & a few questions
drbrainfreeze replied to msmoodyr's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
There is a cost for the chuppa, although I am not sure what it is. For Mammee Bay (free reception) its up to 50 people. And lastly, the Plantation is a flat fee that includes food, beer and wine. If you wanted mixed drinks, I am not sure if that would be extra. There is no bar open at the Plantation for dinnertime. -

We bought 2 bags of brown sugar from Walmart and it was way more than enough. I am not too sure if you would find some to use there. I would suggest bringing it yourself to be honest. We brought the wrong batteries with us and had to go all the way into town to a gift shop. That mistake cost us $40 or so....

Poolside Reception - does it overlook beach?
drbrainfreeze replied to jawedding's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
It is quite beautiful. I had our cake table and dancing between the round tables and the rail, so we were dancing beachside. Our guests were able to juse go down the stairs and then were right on the beach. -
ROR Poolside Reception
drbrainfreeze replied to drbrainfreeze's topic in Jamaica Accommodations & Site
And here I am again I brought my own. Chandlyn did not ask me if I wanted candles. It seems like sometimes they put them out (like for after dinner receptions) and in my case, I was not asked. I think maybe because I brought my own. Just keep in mind, it was REALLY windy til about 9pm-ish. So if you have exposed flame, it will probably blow out. I would bring some sort of contained holder and hope that she has candles. On the safe side? Bring your own. They are cheap, fairly light, and at least you know you have them! The lights wrapped around the poles ("pepper" lights) are included. They seem to always be there. -
Yeah...no walls is a better description The only bar that has walls is the sports bar. I think the arcade is down there too. saw a bunch of kids there when I popped down there (once). It was really hot.

best images Not sure if there are prices on there. We didn't use him. You can get a good idea of costs from the girls that did use him though.

Did you bring your IPod to ROR?
drbrainfreeze replied to DanishBride's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
We also used the Ipod and Bose station for our poolside reception. It was perfect. There is a plug right by the bar. At Mammee Bay it might be a little harder to find a plug. We were supposed to have our rehearsal dinner there, but were moved to the lower level of the Plantation, and there was no plug for us to use. There was one upstairs though. They could not find an extension cord for us... -
Musical chairs reception seating plan!!
drbrainfreeze replied to Virg's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
LOVE this idea!! Wish I had thought of it. I also wish we had done assigned seating in the end. It was truly a mess without it and my only true bridezilla moment of the entire wedding (picture my mom moving like 4+ chairs to her table right before the first dance so she could have 12 people at her table, leaving just DH and I at our large round table to ourselves....) We had the same amount of people that you do. -
Post your centerpieces here

They do not provide them (I don't think!!) although they never took them down for me and I stopped trying to get them to take them down for me since I wanted to enjoy my vaca - so they might be there still. It rained one night and I could tell they were ripping, though.... -
You will be fine. Youre not actually "in" the bar, the bars are kinda just...there. So they will be fine. There were always kids sitting at the bar, my 2-year-old niece included There is no set time that they have to leave either.

I read this on cruise critic too! Did you post that there too? I might also put a phone number on there. We actually had a suitcase that got misplaced on the way to Jamaica and had we not put our phone number on the luggage, we wouldn't have gotten a call from the airline in reponse to finding the luggage!

ROR Beach Recption -Has Anyone Seen This?
drbrainfreeze replied to Preciousmi811's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
We saw something similar but a little larger....it was for a convention that was going on at the resort, and I can assume its really expensive. I am not sure what this would cost, but I have to assume you would need to rent the poles and tulle from Chandlyn. -
Just and FYI...you can watch this on Hulu.com if you missed an episode. I don't have cable anymore so I just do this...that was you can just fast forward

I'm trying to talk my FI into having everyone come to the reception in all white ...... what time did you start your reception? My reception was *supposed* to start around 6:30 but in all reality, it was closer to 7. My guests just hung out at the lobby bars. We did first dance, father/daughter dance, and sisters/brothers dance and then ate. The time gap will FLY, trust me!!! My guests stayed busy and we had to take a bunch of pics. I amost wish we had had our wedding at 3 rather than 4, but it was all good Frank: Your wedding is 2 days before my 1 year anniversary! We had PERFECT weather, so sending that luck your way for next year!!!

ROR Poolside Reception

We had 5 tables. 5-6 people per table but they can hold up to 8 comfortably. -Are the all the tables round or square, or a combo? Ours were all round. I think that you can have square. I saw this for people who did not have the dinner reception, just the dancing-type reception. I am sure if you wanted, you could have a combo. -I am thinking of bringing my own table runners to add a splash of color over the white table clothes.... What size do u recommend I bring? Not sure what the size of the tables are, I am pretty sure they are a standard banquet round. I would e-mail Chandlyn and ask her for the dimensions. -Are the white chairs included in the $55/pp dinner? No. They were $5 extra, which we used for the ceremony as well. Then its was an extra $2 for each tieback for a total of $7.00 per chair. I think you would get the standard brown chairs if you did not pay for the white chairs./B] Thanks! My TA is a DW specialist, and helped me coordinate the wedding stateside. I was really concerned about what would happen once we actually got to Jamaica so we seriously considered flying our TA out to coordinate. I am so glad we did not spend the extra $ to do this though! Chandlyn and Nikki along with some staff, did an exceptional job. I gave basic instruction at our meeting, and they started setting up way earlier than I expected!! I just had my 2 SILs check in to make sure it was set up right and helped a little... I say, save the cash and put it towards something that is really important to you!!

We spread out our luggage (5 large suitcases of decorations) between family members. Family took 4 our of JFK and we took 1 out of Charlotte. This topic has been discussed before. Consensus is not to ship. They can be held up at customs so you might not get the stuff, Chandlyn might not accept the stuff since she does not want to be held responsible and it will cost a ton for you to ship it. Good luck with everything!!

The problem is, my FI sees a cardiologist due to previous chest pains, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and anxiety. If he gets laid off he could pick up COBRA, but even with the Obama stimulus it is still kinda high. So I looked to see if his doctors were covered under my plan and they are. So when I spoke with my benefits person at work, I thought we could qualify as domestic partner because we have lived together for 2 and a half years, but they only honor same sex. So I asked her what his coverage date would be when we get married, and she told me I have to produce a marriage license within 30 days of our wedding date. We all know from this website that that's not going to happen. They won't extend the deadline either. So the only way I can get a marriage certificate within 30 days is to go to the courthouse. I know everyone is telling me to look at it like just doing paperwork and I will, but it is just a bummer and I am kinda disappointed. You might want to look into this a little more. I was worried about the same thing when we got back - and our benefits office (we work for the same company) just used the temporary certificate that was given to us at the RIU. It states the date of the marriage, as well as the sig's of both of you, your witnesses as well as the officient. Have you asked if this would be sufficient? They give this to you at the ceremony. Otherwise, just look at it as pre-wedding paperwork. There is not much difference between what you are doing now (living together) and signing a little form so that he can be medically covered. Your wedding day will still be extra-special!!

That sucks!! I just got my on my doorstep today. I wonder if it will go back to being on sale

Gift for special aunt
drbrainfreeze replied to ~*Lisa*~'s topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
I put together a nice basket for my aunts that included: A wine bottle cheese board with knife purchased from Etsy, a bottle of their fave wine, and a personalized wine glass from Etched engraved, custom personalized wine glasses, accessories with the quote Only an Aunt... can give hugs like a mother, can keep secrets like a sister, and share love like a friend that spiraled around teh glass. They cried like babies ;-) -
Well, I think the free reception is only good for 50 guests, if you have more, they might make you pay for a private reception. If you are looking for a dinner/dancing reception with a DJ you have a few options - Poolside, Sea Grape, Plantation. You might be able to get away with the "free" reception at Mammee Bay, but then you would need to find an alternate for the dancing/music part - again poolside, Sea Grape, or the disco. Mammee Bay is going to give you the least amount of privacy
