  1. welcome from another RMB bride!! It's good to have another on board.
  2. I have been to Jamaica in Sept. It did rain a little while we were there...and if I remember correctly it was later in the afternoon. The rains were usually fairly short and warm. I've also been told that pictures are better earlier in the day if you want pics of the bright blue water. Seems that as the day goes on the ocean gets darker....so if you want that wonderful Carribean blue ocean background, it's better to have it a little earlier. Also, welcome from antother RMB bride. Our wedding is at Noon on Feb 28, 2009.
  3. The hotel is open yet, so there is no e-mail address for that hotel yet. I've been talking with the WC at ROR
  4. We are going the just the 2 of us route...and I have both a sister and a brother. Everyone has been super supportive. I get the feeling that my parents and his father are all relieved that they don't have to pay for anything My mom's response was something along the lines of - yah, congrats, what took you guys so long...make sure you bring back great pics. I have no regrets about having my wedding this way. That being said there are things I know I'm missing out on like having my sis be my MOH and going dress shopping, doing invites, etc. But in the end I have zero stress.
  5. Don't forget tomorrow is 7-11...free slurpee day! Slurpee.com - Slurpee Nation
  6. You start the 1st year be getting eggs. You can get them online or from a local plant nursery. They keep them in the fridge to keep them from hatching. Hang the eggs in the garden on a larger plant under a nice leaf. In about 2 weeks of nice warm weather they will hatch. Each egg has about 200 mantis. They are very tiny at 1st. (smaller than your fingernail). We let them live in the garden all summer and they will shed thier skin a few times and get bigger and bigger. They will stay in the garden all summer and eat all the pests that attack your plants. When it starts to get cold out in early fall, try and catch a few of the mantis to bring inside the house. Last year we caught 4 total and ended up w/ 2 male and 2 female. We feed them crickets, flys, meal worms etc. during the winter. Each mantid is kept in it's own cage most of the time (we just got those plastic critter cages) After a they are full grown (they get wings in thier last stage) we feed the female really well and then place the male and female in the cage together for a little while. We watch them carefully so we can catch them before the female eats her mate. A few weeks later the female will create an egg. We remove the egg and keep it in the fridge until spring then hang it in the garden to hatch. Our eggs from this year just hatched this weekend. My FI got some pics of the babies yesterday, I'll get them from him and post a few tonight. They are the coolest bugs. I just love to watch them
  7. It took RIU 10 days to get mine back to me. I filled out the online form on 5/20 and got my confirmation e-mail on 5/30. My TA said the delay is due to them contacting the judge/minister.
  8. I think by Nov '09 you should be fine. I'm also having my wedding at a resort that isn't open yet. It's just the 2 of us, so we are flexible...but if we had guests I might have picked a diff resort.
  9. I was on Trip Advisor in the forums and they were talking about this resort. Sounds like the opening has been very rocky and people aren't happy...so if you are planning on going you might want to give it a little time to iron out all the opening bugs.

    Newbie Here

Wooohoo! another RMB bride. Welcome!! I'm so excited to see more and more of us. I think I was the first one one this forum, but there are now a few others floating around. Do you have your confirmation yet? I was so glad when I was finally able to get mine. Welcome to the forum, we will have to exchange notes as we are going to be there around the same time. Kris
  11. What days are your trip for? We might be there at the same time? We leave on the 3rd.
  12. I just got back from a trip to Montana and my package was waiting for me. I haven't opened it yet...I will when I get home from work. I promise to post pics when I open it! My secret elf was TA Lindsay...we exch with each other...too fun. I can't wait to get home from work and open it.
  13. I got that same e-mail today from Riu advertising the Aug 29 opening. The days that those prices are good for is Aug 29 thru Oct 2. When we booked our trip for Feb a few months ago we got that $99 deal for our dates. I'm glad we jumped on it when we did as it is not the same price as ROR. Thanks for the pics....It looks like one building is almost done and the other is a vicitm of the floor removal. I have been chatting w/ some people on a Riu specific messgae board and they say Riu is well known for getting things done on time and not to worry. I'm not really concerned as it's just the 2 of us...but I can't wait!!!
  14. Hmmm. Not sure why the link didn't work. Let's try again: Kris and Joel's Jamaica Party - a set on Flickr
  15. Last Sunday Joel & I had our engagement party at our house. We threw a Jamaican themed BBQ. It was a blast. It turned out to be the hottest day Seattle had seen in a long time (it was in the 90's). These are a few pics that my best buds husband took at the party. I haven't had the time to put up mine yet as we are leaving for a long weekend in Montana soon. Here is the link to all the pics so far: http://http://www.flickr.com/photos/...7605902233481/ Here are a few of my favs: This is me and my sister The grill stuffed w/ our homemade Jerk Chicken My girlfriends trying to beat the heat FI & I trying some of the cake The fantastic "cake pops" my BF made for us
  16. FI and I try to as much as possible. I have IBS and have to be careful w/ what I eat. Here in Seattle there are a few organic produce delivery companies available. We go with one called Spud.com (formally Pioneer Organics). It’s delivered bi-weekly and is more than enough for the 2 of us (we are big fruit and veggie eaters). They have a bunch of different choices and you can even customize what you get. I would see if there is a company like this near you. I know there is more than one choice here in Seattle and my brother uses a different one in San Francisco. Each summer we also plant our own veggie garden. Instead of pesticides we breed Praying Mantis and have the eggs hatch in the garden. Normally they take care of all the bugs…but this year has been so cold that the eggs haven’t hatched yet and we are seeing some of our pepper and strawberry plants get attacked. Hopefully they will hatch soon. I just love going to the garden and picking the veggies for dinner. It puts me in such a happy mood during the summer.
  17. from another Jamaican '09 bride!
  18. I thought Tai Flora was the florist that ROR used for the flowers...are you talking to them thru the WC?
  19. I was planning on being barefoot for the wedding, but am worried about the sand being too hot. Our wedding is at Noon...did anyone have problems with the sand being too hot to walk on?
  20. We just had our engagement party this weekend and did the same thing you are!! We had a Jamaican themed BBQ with Jerk chicken, rum punch etc. It was a blast! Anyway...I did a few of trails of different recipes before using this one, but it was by far the best one: 3 cups water 1 pint passion fruit sorbet, melted One 12-ounce can frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed One 12-ounce can frozen pineapple juice concentrate, thawed 1 1/4 cups white rum 3/4 cup golden rum 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons grenadine 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg Ice Yelds about 10 cups. If you need any other Jamaican themed help, let me know!
  21. Yes, I believe that is true. One of the best resources I found for all my questions were a few Yahoo groups dedicated to the machines (search on Wishblade, craft robo, etc.) every question I had...someone else had already asked. Plus, they share free templates so for free you can download tons and tons of designs to use!
  22. I haven't bought it yet, but I'm going to get the Craft Robo because it seems to be the bet deal. I like the Silhouette best, but not enough to justify the extra $75 to $100 more. Check out EBay...that is where I've seen the best deals.
  23. Hello from a fellow Washington State Bride! I'm in Seattle.
  24. Yah, I'm so glad you got it. I was starting to get worried that it had gotten lost. I'm so glad those are the correct stickers. There are so many scrapbooking stickers I was worried. I thought they were so cute I got a set for myself as well! Kris
