They have pretty much any colour you want for the sash. Also I did not want the Saten Sash so I asked for Organza and they had that!! In my opionion the white with the sash truely makes a difference.. so nice!
-
Marnie I am glad you are in the same boat though it means that it is probably a processing thing, I was starting to worry that it was lost and there was no record of our marriage.. at least Chandlyn wrote you back.. she wrote me once saying she is looking in to it and never again!!!! Keep me posted!

I got married in April at ROR and I still have not received my marriage certificate in the mail!!!! I have emails Chandlyn 5 times with no response. Does anyone have Nikki's email so I can try her!

If you dont want to pay the extra for the white chair covers and Sash but dont really like the brown ones there is a third option that I did! We had white fold out chairs ($5/chair) then had a sash put on those ($2/chair) so it was cheaper and looked a lot better then the brown (in my opinion)./ I will post a pic of the white folded ones later!

Has anyone who got married in April got their marriage certificate yet??

Poolside Reception - does it overlook beach?
Jill replied to jawedding's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
I had a poolside reception, yes it is around the pool by the suites. The way it is set up is that the beach and the water is behind the head table! You are close to the beach. It is a great set up and soo much fun, you wont regret choosing the poolside! -
We got married at ROR and were there from April 18-25 we left from Toronto and our price was $1606 per person, we split the free tickets between all guests. No matter what the price of the resort people who are not going to come are going to complain about the price be it $1400 or $1800, bottom line is they are not coming and people who are coming dont mind spending a little extra. Not a single person who came complained to us about price! The Riu is amazing and you get what you pay for. You are going in expensive season, if you push it to the first week of April it will be cheaper. I dont know why your travel agent would charge you to look for resorts is that not her job. We went and saw our TA she told us about a bunch of resorts and then we picked we did not pay her a penny, maybe you should find a new TA!

Help with reception Ideas from Brilliant ladies of BDW
Jill replied to M9w3h6's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
I did poolside so I can only comment on that, but it was amazing. We did the dinner and everything there but you can also just do danicng after dinner there which is 10/person (I believe) that includes open bar, tables set up with white linen and candle on table. They will move your flowers to this spot from Ceremony. The DJ is $150/hour, no matter where you have your reception you will pay that for the dj, so I guess you just need to decide if you want to pay $10 per person for the poolside or beach.... -

wedding review ROR Jamaica april 22 2009
Jill replied to Jill's topic in Destination Wedding Reviews
Great review, I am still trying to figure out where to have my destination wedding and Jamaica is looking more affordable and fun everyday. Where at Rui was your ceremony? I am concerned to have our wedding at a big resort because I dont want a lot of random people there. I feel like it will take away from the moment a little. Also we have a real party crowd going, would you recommend the resort for this kind of group? Any info helps OUr ceremony was one the beach and it was amazing. People told me that there were a bunch of people watching our ceremony but to be honest I did not notice a single one. You are so focused on your hubby that it wont matter who is watching!! It did not take away from the moment at all. A party crowd at this resort is fine. Lots of bars and enough room for you all to be together. Night life is what you make it, if you have a crazy party crowd then you can drink at the bars or go to the disco. We loved the resort and so did everyone that came with us! -
trying to post poolside reception pictures..hope it works

Are the little white lights included in the free package, or did you have to pay more for them? I dont know about the white lights. I emailed Tai Flora before going and asked how much it is to drap the coloums with white linen and put white lights around and thay said $30/column so I said no unless they wanted to do it for free. I never mentioned it in the meeting with Nikki, and on the day the lights were up, no linen, but lights so I dunno who decided to put them up, maybe Tai flora cause they messed up, or Nikki cause they felt bad for the mix up. Either way they made the area so nice so it is worth asking about! -

ROR Brides - if you could do it all again
Jill replied to jawedding's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
I would completely do a destination wedding again, it was perfect. In the planning stages you get so worked up about who is coming and who is not, but once you get there it does not matter! I would definately go back to the same resort. the wedding coordinators are great. If I had to do it over I might have brought fake flowers ONLY because I had a mix up with mine, but many people do not. I think Lee's tours is a spluge I would do again makes transfer so much easier and they are great. I also spluged on OOT gifts (travel mugs) and they were a hit everyone loved them!! Also we went with poolside reception (private) $55/person sooooooooooooo worth it! Trust me you wont have any regrets doing an DW I have had sooo many of my guests tell me it was the best wedding they went to and the most beautiful! -
I forgot to mention in my reveiw that we used Norma and Lee's tours for a transport from the airport to the resort. It was amazing we got there in less then an hour and a half, we had drinks on board. If you have the money in your budget I would book them. The resort sends a free shuttle but you have to stop and drop people at other resorts and I dont think they have drinks on board.

wedding review ROR Jamaica april 22 2009

Can't wait to see your pics! If you don't mind listing what you ordered from Tai Flora and the total cost. If they refunded you $400, your original package must have been pretty expensive! I have been going back and forth with them trying to get a reasonable price Yes my original bill was expensive. Flowers were important to me so I did not mind spending more in this department. My bouquet was white calla lillies and pink star gazer lillies= $150, each bridesmaid was to carry 9 white calla lillies 70/each x3, 6 calla boutanerries= $25/each x 6, 2 wrist coursages= $30/each, 2 gazebo decorations= $90 each, 2 aisle markers= $120 each, 5 bags of rose petals = 30 each, and 1 cake topper= $30. Now they refunded me money for my bouquet, my bridesmaids, the boutanerries. the rest of the flowers were fine. My total bill before the discount was $1170!!!! This is why I was so mad when it was not perfect I was spending a lot of money with these people.. but $400 back was resonable -
I took a picture down with me and showed them and they did a great job on not only my hair but all my girls hair too!! I would not worry they are great there! I dont know how to post pictures!

"That's such a great review! Congratulations. I'm excited to see pics of the poolside reception since that's what I booked and I've only seen a few. It sounds beautiful. Did you have to pay anything for them to set up the Dunn's bar for a cocktail hour? I really like that idea. How much were the white chairs and chair covers+sashes? Did you have to bring the white lights for the columns or did they have those there? Thanks. : ) " I did not have to pay extra for the cocktail hour, since the bar opens at 5:30 anyway... The white folded chairs were $5/chair plus $2/sash so worked out to $7. I did not bring the white lights, now I thought you had to pay for these through the florists, but I dunno if she did them free for me cause of the mix up. I did not ask but they certainly made the area beautiful!~ -
This resort is beautiful and you will not be disappointed if you have chosen to marry here. The resort is stunning and the grounds are beautiful. The food is good, just like any other 5 star I have been too. We arrived on the Saturday and meet with the Nikki on Monday. I had been corresponding through email with Chandlyn for months and months, but Nikki is amazing and had all the stuff I wanted written down. Our meeting was about 45 minutes, I brought my suitcase full of stuff for them and we went through how I wanted everything set up. I had been emailing back and forth with Tai Flora for months and had already put a deposit down so I did not have to discuss flowers. We choose the beach gazebo with white folded chairs (cheaper then brown with white cover and nicer if you ask me). We had a fushia sash on all the chairs. We chose the free package and did all the upgrades we wanted, which worked out cheaper for us. We had the white tulle on the gazebo plus 2 gazebo flower decorations and 2 aisle markers. I had asked to have the white runner but on the day it was not there (no big deal) so they refunded me the cost of the runner ($45). The day before the wedding the florist called and said they did not have enough white calla lilies to do my bridemaids bouquets as I had asked (I wanted 9 white calla lilies) so I had to pick a new bouquet, we did 5 white calla lilies with these other flowers, so for a moment I was annoyed but in the end liked these bouquets better. The night before the wedding we had a rehersal, which I would recommend, it is only 10 minutes but lets you know what will happen. Nikki and Chandlyn can only book you into the buffet for your rehersal dinner but I did not want that so my husbands aunt went to talk to the manger and they booked 17 of us into the plantation and it was set up beautiful and was perfect! The day of the wedding I had the spa go to moms room to do hair and make up on me and my 3 bridesmaids. They arrived at 9:30 and got started right away, these ladies are amazing. I took a picture of what I wanted but my girls did not and they did a great job. Make up looked great too, and if you don’t like it they keep going until you do. Nikki delivered champagne and orange juice at 1030, my mom had gone to the buffet and brought up fruit and breakfast stuff for us. We finished everyones hair and make up at about 12:45 and then we got the bridesmaids dressed. At 1 my photographer arrived and then I got into my dress. We took some pictures at this time. My photographer brought a second photographer with her so he went to the guy’s room and did pictures there. At about 1:45 my photographer went to the ceremony site to take detail pictures… we were to get married at 2:00.. at 205 Chandlyn called and said they were still waiting on the flowers they have called three times and they said they were on the way. At 217 Nikki arrived with the flowers (so I guess 17 minutes late is not too bad in Jamaica). The problem was the flowers were going brown….you could only tell if you were close, in pictures you can’t tell. Our ceremony was perfect… I had recorded music and they played it all correctly. The set up was out of a dream. I wrote the entire ceremony and the judge read it great, messed up a little at the end but no one noticed. We then did champagne toast on the beach and then did pictures. At 5:30 we had a cocktail hour at Dunns river. They set out white tablecloths and we all just relaxed and had some drinks. At 6:30 we headed over to the poolside reception which was perfect. I could not believe how nice it looked. They set it up exactly how I wanted. They had little white lights around the colums. Had moved our flowers over, we put out rose petals and gems on the tables and had the candles they use. Dinner was the best food we had all week, everyone loved it. Our waiters were great, and we even got them out dancing. The barstaff was amazing and came around the dance floor pouring shots into our mouths! We had the DJ show up at 7:30 and he played until 11. The photographer I used was Stacey Clarke. She was amazing to work with, her style is not traditional which is what I wanted. She was fun and easy. I would highly recommend her! Our room was decorated with rose petals and flowers when we got back and the next day they delivered at fruit tray. We never did ask for the upgrade, but I am sure you would get it is you asked. Nikki and Chandlyn bend over backwards to make this day perfect, I cannot say enough good things about them! The day after the wedding I went to Nikki and she called the florist and I told them how disappointed I was, firstly the day before the wedding I had to change bouquets, secondly they were late and thirdly they were going brown.. I ended up getting $400 back and I was happy with that! As I said before if you have any questions please ask.. I don’t have pictures yet.

I do have to say though you have to be relaxed Destination weddings are not for the high strung brides!!! If you have any specific questions just ask.. we were married on the beach, had a cocktail hour at dunns river then had a poolside reception (dinner, dancing by the pool)

Congrats.. your pictures are great!!! You said that you brought your own songs for first dance but did the DJ have a lot of CD's for the rest of the reception? did he have all kinds of songs oldies? rock? Dance? etc etc Thanks
