  1. We just got married in June near Playa del Carmen and it was hot and humid! But, it looks like the weather doesn't change too much during the year. We had a blast but it was hot for sure. Check weather.com for weather in Jan vs. May although I don't think it has humidity. Good luck planning!
  2. Good luck deciding.. the rum bottles sound cute. We decided not to do favors since we are having two AHR but do people expect them?
  3. Their website said $119 for our trip and we ended up booking at our hotel, through American Express, while we were down there and spending $119 each.
  4. We had him for 3 hours but I think he has changed the packages since we booked him a few months ago. Check out the website and also check the calendar to see if he is available. We didn't feel that we needed a photographer for the reception because so many of our friends and family took pics. It worked out well. If you have a big wedding party or large group, you might want longer.
  5. Thanks for posting this! Love Jillian's 30 day shred and her book!!
  6. Make sure they are comfy once you get them. I ordered some online and couldn't return them and they were so uncomfy that I ended up getting other shoes. BUT- those are super cute!!!!
  7. Sorry to hear that! Two of my best friends were my bridesmaids and dropped out and didn't end up coming to the wedding. It sucked! But, their excuses were kid related and I guess I understand. It is hard to deal with but it will still be wonderful! We ended up having a blast and my two stand in BM were awesome and had a blast!
  8. What I Would Do: -hire outside photographer- loved the preview pics from Sascha Gluck and am so glad I didn't use the Iberostar photographer although it sucked to pay $300 to not use them -give small OOT bags- guests loved Spanish for Dummies, Pepto, and Advil but didn't use the small beach balls. -not write my vows- the ceremony was great and it was one less thing to do -do my own makeup and use Makeup Forever mist and fix- it turned out great and I felt comfortable- DO USE more blush that you normally would -have my mom do my hair, it was important to her and made her feel like Mama Mia and it turned out great -get married on the beach, even though it was windy, it was awesome and I am glad we didn't use the gazebo because it was so much cooler on the beach -use Secret waterproof deodorant, it worked great and I didn't feel sweaty!! What I Wouldn't Do -bring so much stuff, I only used half of the clothes I brought because you end up wearing things over, especially dressier clothes -have my nails done the day before to save time. I totally messed them up and ended up buying polish there to fix the french manicure portion and now I have white polish I will never use again. I am not a manicure kind of girl I guess. I would do it the morning of instead. Although hanging out at the pool that morning was nice. -steam my own dress, we brought a travel steamed for my dress and his suit and I ended up spending the afternoon steaming my dress instead of going to the pool. Although I saved money, it was dumb and not worth it. Wish I Would Have -brought aloe vera and more suncreen and bug spray- the resort charges WAY too much and you will need more than you think -planned optional group excursion before the wedding- people did things on their own anyway and it would have been nice to have one together. I would have picked a tour and had people sign up and pay on their own at the hotel. -moved to another hotel after the wedding. Lots of our friends and family stayed longer and we ended up worrying about seeing them and meeting up instead of just relaxing. I loved our hotel but it probably would have been good to move for peace and quiet.
  9. The ceremony on the beach wasn't too hot for the girls but the guys had to wait forus in the sun and they looked hot. Get the Secret waterproof deodorant- it works!! Use humidity resistant hair spray. Also, Sephora has this Makeup forever Mist & Fix makeup spray that comes in a travel size that works great but put mascara on after you spray it, Sephora: MAKE UP FOR EVER Mist & Fix To Go: Makeup. I didn't have to touch up my makeup although I should have put more lipstick on but I forgot! I wasn't hot during the ceremony but during photos, it got hot walking around the hotel property. The reception was a little hot but they have ceiling fans in the reception area so you don't need to buy any. We gave out fans to guests for favors and they used them. We did small OOT bags and put them together when we got there. People enjoyed them- especially the Pepto and Advil and Spanish for Dummies. Jenn- we didn't want to crash but it was tempting!!!!
  10. Welcome! The beauty of a destination wedding is you go do as much or as little as you want for planning. Good luck! Once you are there, it will all be wonderful so don't stress too much. The most annoying thing is your guests think you are the travel agent even if you have one
  11. Jenn- we saw your family at the Lindo pool buffet with the cute t-shirts the day of your wedding! We didn't get to watch your ceremony but walked by the reception and it looked like everyone was having a blast. Be prepared for change! They switch things around a lot but you have to go with the flow and it all works out. They kept trying to book spa appointments for me and hair but I had to keep canceling them because my mom did my hair. It all works out but things might change!
  12. I bought blue rhinestone stickers at Michaels in the $1 section and put them on the side of my shoe, spelling out "I Do". It was easy and cheap and turned out cute!
  13. They can't be resized but are affordable so you can buy another one if he out grows it.
  14. The Del Mar and Beach are fully open now. They closed them for renovations during the swine flu period because they had low occupancy. It was a bonus for the brides who went because there was no one over on that side but we had our weddings there! We loved being upgraded to the Lindo so we could go to a restaurant every night although the buffets are good, too.
  15. I have photos! Check them out at: CancunPhotos by Sascha Gluck. Sascha is so creative and fun to work with. Thanks for the recommendations girls! BTW- we added the extra flowers to the arch and my step mom and aunt added the extra white toile (sp?) to fill it in. The arch at the Lindo is awesome and has cut outs of starfish, etc. but you can't use it at the del Mar.
  16. Just got back from our wedding and wanted to let you know that Sascha Gluck was awesome to work with! Very professional and he had great ideas for photos that I never would have thought of. We haven't seen the pics yet but I am looking forward to it!!
  17. We just got back from our honeymoon and went on the Mayan encounter with Alltournative. It was great! They give back to the community so it is sustainable tourism which is great to know you are supporting the Mayan community you visit. During the trip, we hiked, swam in a cenote, kayaked, ziplined, rappelled, ate a traditional Mayan lunch, and hiked the pyramid at Coba. It was enjoyable and is a small group (10 people and your guide) so you are not on a huge tour bus. Note- you can't wear bug spray or sunscreen to swim in the cenote and you take a shower to rinse it off but it would be better to wait until after that part to apply it since they use that water for drinking, etc. But, apply tons of bug spray later because there are bugs out there. We had a blast and ended up buying the pics because it also helps support the community ($40 for disc plus other scenic shots- FI thought that was a lot but I thought of it as a donation and it's way cheaper than what they charge for the dolphin swim pics!!). Check it out if you want a smaller tour that keeps you busy for the day and enjoy outdoor activities!!
  18. Hi! Just got back from wedding and honeymoon at Lindo. Will post pics and review soon. We got upgraded to Lindo since the del Mar and Beach were closed due to low occupancy but still had the wedding at the del Mar side since that is what we had originally booked. The del Mar re-opened 2 days prior to the wedding but was pretty empty so the ceremony ended up being really private. Reyna was great (although they picked me up 25 minutes late and the guests and guys had to wait in the sun!). It all worked out really well! No signs of swine flu, the resort is awesome and all of the guests had a blast. We enjoyed working with Sascha Gluck and look forward to seeing our pics soon! Thanks for your support and help along the way girls!
  19. Happy planning! You will finds lots of info on this site. We looked into your resort- it looks awesome! Dreams weddings have gotten great reviews!
  20. Hi to the other June 20 brides! We leave on Tuesday morning for Playa del Carmen! I am hung over today from my bachelorette party last night but finally starting to feel better (very fun and not TOO crazy with no regrets). I need to finish packing and run some errands but I think I might actually be finished with wedding stuff!!!!!
  21. I just heard an awful wedding underwear story today! A bride wore sexy silky underwear and ended up with a yeast infection for her honeymoon due to sweating all day. TIP- wear underwear with a cotton lining to stay out of trouble! Change into the sexy ones on the wedding night!!
