  1. oops I forgot to post, I did an hour at the gym with the trainer on monday and I'll be doing a running workout 10k+ tonight...not sure if the coach will have us do hills or speed work or tempo....I'm nervous especially b/c I slacked and didn't run all weekend :S eff

  2. awww poor Sugar! my best friend's bulldog Berger won't run either. But I did run by a bulldog once along the seawall in Vancouver and the little guy started running with me and left his owner behind. He went for a good distance too, he was amazing. The best part was once he gave up the owner had to carry him because he was just DEAD! he was not going to walk another inch on his own.

  3. Kristina - lol thanks cheesy.gif I love running so I always try to make everyone else into runners...M hates my guts for it because he hates running

Erika - so fun!!! I used to love running with my dogs and they loved it too I think. My golden retriever was the best running parner ever, and never complained.

  4. lol Kristina my upper body is brutal! I have no strength. I couldn't even do 1 pushup properly so my trainer started me with my knees on the ground. He said its not cheating, its building the strength up so that eventually you can do up to 5 regular pushups and maybe 15 with the knees on the ground. You just have to work up to it :)

  5. To measure the distance you can use either a watch like the Garmin with a GPS that tracks your movement, heart rate, distance, pace etc... (its my fave). Or you can use something like Map My Run MapMyRun.com - Map your Run, Running Routes. Find Runs Anywhere. Join our Running Community of Runners. Run GPS, GPS, Running Social Network. Google Map Run, Calculate Calories, Online Pedometer, Distance, iPhone, and More.

I think all you girls are doing awesome, the other thing I found that really helped me was having a running partner. Someone that you can make plans with to run, who will push you to go out there even the days that you don't want to, and who will challenge your speed and distance. In canada we have running groups and clinics you can join. I used to run with my roommates in university, then Running Room clinic, etc...

  6. I did the 10.7k hills+tempo training last night with my coach and the rest of the team. Tonight I'll do a recovery 30-40min on the treadmill + abs, because I have my marathon-paced training run tomorrow morning at 5.

I also signed up for a 10k race May 2nd to get me prepped for the 1/2 marathon May 30th and get my race juices flowing cheesy.gif

  7. I usually like running outside just because I like getting the fresh air, and interacting with other runners/walkers/dogs etc... I find it easier to just zone out and pay attention to something other than the running. When I first started running 6 years ago I would jog for 5min then walk until I caught my breath again, and just made sure to stay outside and kept my heart rate up for 30-40 min. I found it really easy to do, and I would alternate, one day outside run, one day inside elliptical or rowing machine.

Keep up the awesome work!! cheesy.gif

  8. great job girls!!

Carly, way to go on day 1 cheesy.gif As for the speeds, the elliptical is usually a bit faster than a treadmill because you're getting more turnover in your legs, which you wouldn't get if you were actually running. Also, on the elliptical you're engaging your quad, hamstrings and glutes more than on a treadmill, which is your powerhouse and makes you go faster. So that might be why. To give you an idea, when I run (my fastest) on the ground outside I'm at 8.5mph, on an elliptical I'm usually about 6 mph or so

  9. way to go girls! you're all doing amazing!

Erika - I secretly love running in the snow. It keeps my body cool so my heart rate doesn't max out, and usually no one else is out there except for me and a few other crazies...so it makes it feel like even greater of an accomplishment. My trainer always says that running in the rain/snow/non-ideal weather conditions builds character lol

Cathy - for the shorts part, I'm zero help. I bought an awesome pair of light weight adidas capri's that I just love running in. I always had the same issue with shorts as you mentioned so I gave up about 3 years ago and now I run in capris or long tights.
