Anyone out there thinking about "Rock the Reception"?
happygilmore replied to amesharpe's topic in Chit Chat Corner!
We are to!!! I am so excited. My FI has created a mix where we start off to a traditional song and then it scratches out and another songs play. I am going to dance to two, he is going to dance to two, like a dance battle and then we are going to do a few songs together and then back to the origional song! I am so excited...songs are as follows: Sara Evens - Could not ask for more (Us) Sir mix a lot -baby got back(me) Beasty boys - brass monkey(me) Michael Jackson - Billy Jean(FI) red sox's irish jig(FI) Macarana(us) Apache(us) lets do the twist(us) Sara evens could not ask for more(us) Our guests are going to love it cause FI doesn't dance so they'll all be shocked. We just down loaded a program off the internet and mixed our own songs. Let me know if you need the program info!!! -
My Fi usually does either a 7 layer dip or the little weiner dogs in bbq/grape jelly sauce that is always a hit with his corrections friends! His boss (a woman) asked one day if he was bringing his weiners to the staff party! hehehe

I have a platinum E-ring and I am having a palladium wedding band made. I was told they will look almost the same but palladium is a bit shiner. I was told not to do white gold because they wear different and I want to get my rings saudered(?) and that trying to rhodium dip the white gold next to the plantinum would be difficult. My wedding band is being made right now so when I get both together (platinum and palladium) i'll take a pic and post!

That is so frustrating. Where did you get the dress?

Who wants to complain about the economy with me?

I am not going to pretend like it wouldn't be nice to own a house and all that jazz but I am sooooo not a materialistic person. I hope my complaining didn't come off that way. I just wondered how people are able to afford children and mortages. I am talking about basics such as paying into your healthcare and retirement funds not about vacation homes and shopping kwow what I mean? I totally was not implying that I thought you were materialistic. I was just meant that if anything good comes out of this crappy economy is that we'll learn once again to live with less and go back to basics! I have had to really look at my budget and cut out stuff like soda (totally addicted) and we eat out quite a bit less and we are car pooling when we can, because after rent, food, gas and paying for the wedding there isn't much left after that. Like Rachel, in Vermont you can't use public transportation because it doesnt' really exist! And because eventually I want a house and kids I have made the choice to go back to school. The income i wil make eventually out weighs the loans I have to take out to afford it. -
That really sucks! I am so sorry! I think you should go back to the seamstress and ask her to pay for a new dress. You were being nice the first time but I would tell her that because of HER mistake you weren't able to get it fixed and therefore need $$ to cover buying a new dress. That cost shouldn't fall on you! Good luck!

happygilmore replied to Nrvsbride's topic in Just venting or funnies
The economy definietly sucks! I am hoping that a few positive things come out of it: 1) we aren't so materialistic 2) we stop outsourcing and realize we need jobs in here and need to make our own quality products here! 3)we go back to a more simpiliar way of living - gardens, smaller houses, walking to the neighborhood store etc... -
I just wish people would do a couple of things before they get a animal: 1) truly look at their life situation and if they think there is a possibility it involves moving where you can't take the animal and you do'nt have friends or family to take the animal then DON'T GET THEM! 2) Realize that puppies, kittens etc do grow up and they lose the "puppy cuteness" even though they are still cute and they become work, like having a child you wouldn't leave your child tied up cause you had to move!!!!! 3)That animals have feelings, and don't do well with just being bumped around all their lives. They are life long committements and so many people don't realize that!

Thanks Morgan! I can't believe this idiot! My dog will be tied out come take it and all it's stuff. The poor thing isn't even a year old! It's not often that all of a sudden you become homeless, people should really put more effort in finding a good home before they become desperate! I am just thinking that some sicko will come take the dog, even though I know there are great people out there who will probably have already saved the dog...but I always think the worse!

I like #1 the best. I think it will turn out the best!

I don't know if this is real or not but I was on craigslist tonight looking at the North Carolina list and I saw this ad! If anyone is near this location maybe you could see if this poor dog has just been left there! I am just worried this dog will be taken by the wrong person!!! And I don't know who to contact, I don't want it to go to one of the high kill shelters! home needed tonight Can you believe this? If it is real it is making me feel sick to my stomach...I wished I lived near there!

Monster Truck/Outback Safari
happygilmore replied to LadyCheese's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
How cool! It's always nice to see more than just the Resort when you go somewhere new! I am thinking we aren't going to have as many people we orginionally thought, so maybe with the $$ we save from not having to pay for their meals we can take our guests on this trip! Thanks for the info! -
We are working with TA Dina from this forum and she told us she will work hard to find us the best price but she won't be looking everyday so that if we ever found a better price just let her know! So since you emailed your TA about the prices I would think she'd be abe to match it and give a credit if people have already paid or just change the info on your website.

Kids not invited to AHR; Is this rude?
happygilmore replied to Mrs. Martin's topic in At Home Reception (AHR)
I don't think it is rude and if people give you any lip just say you had 250+ people and by leaving out the kids you were able to have a more reasonable number. It wasn't something you wanted to do but from a financial stand point and spacewise it was all that would work! -

We found that most flights from Cali would involve at least one layover in which you had to sleep there (the layovers were like 8 hours). No, this changed for different days, but if some of our guests left on this particular day, it would be a nightmare for them. We were checking kayak.com and expedia.com, so we were just wondering if there was some way to get flights that were not so crazily long, and I also wanted to know how you all found the flight experience to DR to be. If you're not from Cali please feel free to let me know how your flight experience was also, because our guests will be coming from all over the country, but mainly from Cali, Pennsylvania, New Orleans, and Texas. Thanks everyone! ~ Kemi My sister lives near Philly and instead of flying out of the Philly airport she is flying out of Newark. She has a family of 4 and the savings was about $200+ per person to fly out of Newark instead of Philly. It does involved a 2 hour drive but totally worth it for her. Also, dending on where they live in PA Baltimore might be a much cheaper option as well. Also, I am trhing to find a friend who lives in Oregon a decent flight for next May and right now the cheapest I have been is $700ish and the flights are long, doesn't seem to be a way around it!

Realistic Punta Cana Budget

One other issue I am considering is the cost for our guests. They would be paying their own way, but I was wondering if it extremely expensive at the Paradisius Palma Real Punta Cana and the Majestic Colonial Punta Cana. So far, I think the lowest price they have is a little over $900/night. Is this how much it worked out to for your guests? I'm a bit troubled by this, because not everyone we're inviting is rolling in dough. Well, any extra input you all could share with me would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance and happy planning to all! ~ Kemi Here are some room quotes for Dreams Punta Cana. We got these from our TA a few months back so prices might have changed a bit but not much! It shows multiple nights and the prices for all the room categories.
