  1. Thank you so much for this post, I really want to do the sand ceremony but wasn't sure about specifics.
  2. I am having my mom perform our entire ceremony without a Jamaican judge present. Therefore, our marriage won't technically be legal at that moment in time and the ceremony is considered "symbolic" (which is a little cheaper in price). We will either sign our papers right before we leave or right when we get home, which is when we'll officially be "married." I'm not sure how much different it would be for a religious ceremony. But, I think if you have someone close to you who can perform the ceremony, why not?
  3. I've got my postcards printed, but now I'm wondering...has anyone who has been there and back purchased Jamaican stamps for them? I tried to look online what they would cost, but can't find any info. I see that some people are telling guests to wait until they get home to send the postcard, but to me it kind of defeats the postcard's purpose, imo. If anyone purchased stamps down there, could you let me know how much they set you back?
  4. Awesome! I just sent you an email too!
  5. I wondered about this too. We had thought about including travel candles with boxes of matches, but figured we'd have a hard time transporting so many "flamables" through customs.
  6. I don't have any experience with Jamaica yet, but as a frequent traveler to foreign countries I have found that traveler's checks can be a giant hassle. It is often difficult to find places which will cash them, and as mentioned, you can't often choose the currency. You could also get charged for cashing them. I have since avoiding them and used cc everywhere...very handy!
  7. I agree that the bath bomb idea is awesome. Do you anticipate any problems with them at customs? I admire your craftiness!
  8. I will just miss you both. We're getting married on the 7th, and will be there the 2nd-9th. Maybe I can get a review to you guys before you leave! I am a little worried now about the weather in November. I thought I had researched the best times to go...but I just read a review on here that said it was really rainy there in Nov. and that they wouldn't recommend anyone getting married there in November. I wanted to cry! However, we have adopted the "go with flow" attitude and I'm sure that everything will be terrific for us November brides
  9. Along these lines, I plan on using old suitcases to transport our OOT and other wedding items. Then I'm leaving the actual suitcases there too. Less to haul on the way home! And now that many airlines are going to be charging for the 2nd checked bag, it should save a little $
  10. Thank you very much for posting the to-dos and have-dones at the beginning of this thread. I'm a November bride, but it still reminds me of many things I need to get going on! The candles look awesome!
  11. Extremely helpful, I've been trying to start one of these for months! Thanks!
  12. I am really wanting the Seagrape for our reception. Do you "veterans" suggest booking it ahead of time? If so, how far in advance do you need to book? Or is this something you work out with Chandlyn when you get there? I'm just afraid of the other wedding parties going on that day.
  13. Just curious, if the Mammee Bay dinner is the standard with the free reception (which is what I want), what if there are three weddings that day, all of which want that restaurant at that time? That's why I'm curious as to whether we still need to "book" it before someone else does......
  14. Is there a menu out there for a Mammee Bay reception dinner?
  15. JamaicaBride, I am thinking of doing the same plan that you did, dinner at Mammee, reception at SeaGrape. I've been looking all over for reception dinner pricing at Mammee, do you remember how much you paid? Do you still have the menu?? What did most of your guests end up doing between the ceremony and reception?
  16. The beach reception sounds awesome, but I'm curious, would it be possible to do on a Friday night? I've seen on here that they do a beach party on Friday nights, and didn't know if the two would interfere with each other....
  17. I've searched through previous posts, and am not coming up with what I'm looking for. Does anyone have high-res (higher than 300dpi) that I could use to make postcards through VistaPrint? I'd prefer photos from the Riu at Ocho Rios, but any scenic Jamaica photos would be great. The biggest concern is that it be a high-res photo. I'd really appreciate it!!!
  18. Hey, I'm glad someone mentioned this. I have reserved a 1:00 wedding too. It was the only time available on my date. I also work for a prof. photographer and understand how the light can affect photos, but I think the mindset to take with the whole destination wedding is....go with the flow! I know the photos will probably not be as "perfect" as they could be, but we will just make the most of it! If you have a prof. photographer working for you, they can take plenty of pics of you and your groom in more photo-friendly places after or before the wedding
  19. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question, but it got me thinking and I went to see what "available" times were on the date that we have already booked, and all of the six time slots show up under the "available" menu. Does it do that for everyone? Do you send in the request and then they tell you that time slot is full? Otherwise...I'm a little worried that maybe I didn't book right...?
  20. Hi everyone, I am wondering if anybody else is bringing their own officiant with them. My mom is a judge and can perform the ceremony (although we have to sign the papers before we leave), but I was wondering if anyone has gone through this and had any trouble? Or if anyone knows how this works with the resort? I'm wondering whether we still have to pay the resort's officiant, even though we don't use them. Any experiences??
  21. Gorgeous colors! I have a question for you, and any other brides who have recently been to the Riu. Is there a casino in the resort? We have some elderly people traveling with us who love to gamble, and some websites/publications say the resort has one, and some don't mention anything about it.
  22. Is the DVD option through the Riu? I haven't seen any info on that on their website...
  23. Great work! This must have taken forever!
  24. I have a question for everyone who have candles in their OOT bags. Will you also provide matches or a lighter? Or is it safe to assume that their rooms will have matches? I like the idea of the candles...but don't want to pack flammables, and am unsure whether the rooms will have matches or not.
