We did a site visit recently and visited the Casa Magna Marriott. I had the exact same opinion as you did! Josefina was great and the entire staff was wonderful and friendly. And the gazebo is beautiful! (I also didn't like the clost proximity to the rooms.) We are going to a friend's wedding there this summer. I'm sure it will be beautiful! Good choice!

Such a cute idea!!!!! I love that! -
Okay, you guys are so crafty! What are you using to make these DIY invitations? How do you cut the paper straight? Are you just using a regular ruler? I can't imagine even making anything decent with normal office supplies!! Are there special invitation making tools or scrapbooking stuff or something? You guys are so good!

I'm glad you guys are finding this helpful! I think it would be hard to pick a place without seeing it. I also thought of one more pro of the Casa Magna Marriott that I forgot to put on the spreadsheet....Casa Magna has a great sports bar. Much better than the Hilton. And also - Le Meridien appears to have a great spa. (I didn't get any services, but they gave us a tour and it looks lovely.) And I still love the reception terrace at Le Meridien!

Hilton Cancun

Yup, we did! We loved it! See my other post - "Back from Cancun Site Inspections - Reviews Attached" There are pics and everything! Enjoy! -
Here is a link to the pictures: Picasa Web Albums - S - Cancun Site I... Barefoot - I really can't say enough about how nice the staff at Le Meridien was. Also at the Marriott. Both staffs there were incredibly friendly. I just can't believe Le Meridien has lost their entire beach!! The waves literally crash right into the hotel! We stayed at the Hyatt during our visit, and their staff was ridiculous. (And I'm speaking mostly of the waitstaff/front desk areas here. They were unorganized and not helpful. Took us almost an hour to check out!) Also, when looking at the pictures, I remembered one more thing I forgot to put on the spreadsheet. 1 more "con" about the Hilton is the carpet in the ballroom. It's pretty garish, but we're thinking it wouldn't be as noticeable in the evening with the lights dimmed. Again - these reviews are just opinions and we were looking for some very specific things. So, just because we didn't like something, it doesn't mean you won't love it! I think there are people who have loved getting married at all of these places, so I really don't think you can go wrong!

Cancun Welcome Dinner
Opice34 replied to Opice34's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
We have tentatively reserved the Hilton. They don't have a private spot big enough for us. (100 people) I come from a family of toast-happy people, so we'd really like some kind of private room or something. We went to a Mexican restuarant in town that could be fun, so we are thinking about that. -
Thanks! Someone said somewhere that if you don't open the bottle that Wal-Mart lets you return it Have you heard that? I'd rather have too much alcohol than run out, so I was thinking if we had any left, we could just tip the vendors with it. But if we could return it, that would be better! Let me know how this works out for you. I'm worried that it may end up being more of a pain than it's worth. Keep me posted! Thanks!!

I'm still pretty new here, but I have gotten so much help from everyone and I'd like to return the favor! I just returned from a site inspection trip in Cancun. I have attached the questionnaire we used when meeting with the Wedding Coordinators, and also a quick pro/con list of each site. (See tab 2 in the document.) We were searching for a location that could accomodate a wedding for 100 people. We also wanted something that would be easy for our guests to get to, and a place where they would feel comfortable. We ended up touring the Hyatt Cancun Caribe, Hilton Cancun Golf & Spa Resort, Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort, Casa Magna Marriott, JW Marriott, and Le Meridien Cancun Resort & Spa. We were probably looking for different things than most people (for example, we're planning to get married during football season, and with many football fans in attendance, a sports bar was imperative to us). I'm guessing most people wouldn't care about that. So, our review may not apply at all for what you're looking for, but I know a lot of people don't get the chance for a site visit, so I thought I'd post this just in case it helps someone. Overall, even if you don't get a site visit, I think you'll be fine wherever you go. They have truly made a business out of this, and while we liked some resorts more than others, I think we'd be fine anywhere. It really just depends on what you're looking for. I have pictures of each place as well and I will try to post them in this thread this evening. If you have any other questions about the sites we visited, just let me know! We asked a million questions! Cancun Hotel Site Inspection Questions and Overview.xls

Are there any other sites besides wedding tracker that allow you to create your own website name? I.e, a wesite name without "weddingwindow" or "ewedding" in it. It seems like lots of you guys have regular website names, but I'm having trouble finding sites that allow you to do that!! Thanks! -
Did anyone bring their own alcohol to their wedding in Cancun? There are several hotels that will allow us to bring our own alcohol and pay a corkage fee. We've calculated that this will probably save us several thousand dollars. Have any of you done this? If so, where did you get the alcohol? (Costco?? Wal-Mart??) How did you determine how much you should purchase? If there were leftovers, what did you do with it? Thanks in advance!
