Three men died on Christmas Eve and were met by Saint Peter at the pearly gates. 'In honour of this holy season' Saint Peter said, 'You must each possess something that symbolizes Christmas to get into heaven.' The first man fumbled through his pockets and pulled out a lighter. He flicked it on. 'It represents a candle', he said. 'You may pass through the pearly gates' Saint Peter said. The second man reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of keys. He shook them and said, 'They're bells.' Saint Peter said 'You may pass through the pearly gates'. The third man started searching desperately through his pockets and finally pulled out a pair of women's panties. St. Peter looked at the man with a raised eyebrow and asked, 'And just what do those symbolize?' The man replied, 'These are Carols.' Merry Christmas Ladies (and gents)!!!

You might try London by Edward Rutherford. It's historical fiction, and if you've ever spent any time in London, the sights will be familiar, and the stories follow the history of the city. Catch is that its about 1,000 pages long. Really, really good, though. Gangster by Lorenzo Carcaterra is also really good. About a mobster (go figure) in New York in the early to mid 1900s. Good fun and not nearly as long. Lots of character development.

We have the pedi-paws too. If you have a longer haired dog with fur that covers most of their nails, it's tougher to use - the hair can get caught in the spinner and pulled. We had to trim Sadie's paws to use it. Once that was done, she wasn't a huge fan, but she likes it better than the clipper.

Anyone have a tried and true homemade fudge recipe
becks replied to Christi's topic in Martha Stewart Wannabees!
Oh hell yes! And it's the easiest thing you've ever imagined. It was my Great Aunt's recipe. Fernie’s Fudge 1 package semi-sweet chocolate chips (12 oz) ½ c. butter 2 slightly beaten eggs 1 lb. Powdered sugar 1 ½ t. vanilla 1 c. chopped walnuts Melt chips with butter. Remove from heat and add eggs, powdered sugar and vanilla. Stir until everything is incorporated and smooth. Add the walnuts and stir until evenly distributed. Pour into 7x11 buttered pan and allow to cool. -
Oh yeah. Sadie's got her own stocking and everything. DH found it at the store and got all mushy about it. She'll get another loofa dog (her fave), but I"m trying to keep it to a minimum. She's got more toys than I do.

What great/ridiculous product have you bought off an infomercial?
becks replied to MarieSam's topic in Random Thoughts
We have the pedi-paws thing (bought from Petco). Sadie isn't a huge fan. It makes a quiet noise, but it vibrates against her nails quite a bit and she doesn't like it. Also, you have to make sure their nails stick out past their fur or you can catch and pull the hairs. It's probably better for short-haired dogs because of that. Sadie's very fluffy and we have to trim her feet first (which she hates). On the other hand, she's got dark nails and I'm horrified at the thought of using a traditional clipper and cutting her nails too short. But really, for the ease and speed of it, a traditional clipper may be the better way for me to do Sadie's piggies. -
OMG Tammy!!!! She is such a cutie! When are you going to come to New York so you can take pictures of Sadie?!?!?! I just can't get a decent photo of her, the little wiggle-worm.

If you're supposed to bring something new (white elephant has traditionally meant something from your home that you don't need/want anymore, but has now expanded it's meaning to include a gift exchange with "stealing" rules), go with something fun or silly. In the past I've brought a bottle of white wine the label of which read "Cheap White Wine", kitchen gadets shaped like odd things, Bubble bath for "dirty" girls, etc. If it is a white elephant of the traditional sense (something you already own but don't want), make sure it's in perfect condition. But the notion of silly or fun still applies.

Oooooh! I loves me some Christmas specials! Personally, I love, love, love, love, love A Muppet Christmas Carol. (I'm also a big fan of A Christmas Carol with George C. Scott.) And then, of course, there's The Year Without A Santa Claus (with Heat Miser and Snow Miser).

I was trading a couple of e-mails with Carlos Martinez from Mannia Audio Video e Iluminacion Profesional, the DJ who did such a great job at my wedding, and he told me that they were looking to start providing services in the DR. Lots of the Rivieira Maya brides have used them, and they are just great and quite affordable. I just wanted to throw the option out for you - they will be up and running in March 2009 in Punta Cana. Their contact informaton is [email protected] and website address is MANNIA - Audio, Video e Iluminación Profesional. Here are some of the reviews and comments from other brides: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t19954 http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t20951 Good luck!

Happy birthday Casey!!! I hope it's wonderful!

Yay Missy!!! I'm so glad it was wonderful! And many, many congratulations!

Nathaniel did our photography. He's amazing - totally and utterly fantastic! His photos are exactly what we wanted and he is about the nicest person in the whole world. I see that Tammy included a link to my review (thanks Tammy!!), so I won't add it again. If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me.

I wish I could help - but I've no idea. Have you checked around to see if you have any friends or relatives with a color laser printer? (Probably at work). That would be my only thought. Alternatively, I think some Kinko's have color laser printers that you can print from on your own - pricey, but an option. Good luck!

I've got mild to mid-grade eczema on my fingers and elbows - occasionally my knees. Arbonne makes a skin conditioning oil that seems to work really well on clearing up my patches. You can buy it online.

Man caves are GREAT! FI has one - the big TV is there, a sofa, all the Wii, XBox, etc stuff that I don't want in the real part of the house. Plus all his sports memorabilia - of course, there's no wall space left, but whatever. And, when he's in the way and being annoying (or watching his 43rd football game of the weekend and I'm done) I can tell him to go play in the cave. As far as Xmas, we're not going to splurge this year, but we'll do little gifts and stockings. I'm still stumped.

If the transparency box isn't clickable, try ungrouping the image (you may have to do it over and over) - only problem is that every single component of the image will then become "free" so they'll be movable, deletable, etc. Do it in a secondary file and then highlight all of the components, and see if the transparency is then clickable. Once you get it to a lighter image, regroup everything so that it all stays in place. Good luck!
