Welcome to the forum. Keep posting and your status will change. One slow day at work and the next thing you'll know is that you're a junior member. Congrats on your engagement. FI and I went thru the same issues re venue. We knew we wanted an AI to keep costs controlled for guests. We looked at the Bahamas (not great options with kids), Bermuda ($$$), Barbados ($$$, plus 12+ hours in transit for my family from the W. Coast), and Mexico. We finally decided that we'd go with Cancun/Mayan Riviera. We're still figuring out where (leaning heavily toward the Paradisus), but at least we have the geography under control. Good luck with your planning - everyon here is SO helpful.
  2. I was in Waikiki for new years a few years ago, and there's an underwater national park about 30 minutes out of town - the snorkeling was amazing. I'm struggling to find the name, but I'll post it if I find it. Highly recommend it. Also, there is a little divey coffee shop kitty-corner to the entrance to the Hilton Hawaiian Village that has the BEST breakfasts. We ate their every morning.

    Hello I'm New

    Congratulations and welcome!!
  4. Hello Ladies: I am going to need to purchase a paper cutter/trimmer. I know I want one with the rolling blade (as opposed to the arm), but there are so many out there, and I'm so confused! Anyone love the one they purchased? Do you know what brand/style/etc.? I've looked thru several threads, but can't seem to find reference to a specific one. Also did it come with extra blades (like a perforator)? Thanks in advance!! Becks
  5. Hello Ladies: I've posted the template for my passport STDs, as well as some notes and hints. You can find it here: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t13491
  6. NOTE: These templates have been removed and will not be shared from this time forward... This is an information-only thread. Do not PM Becks requesting the templates or you may be suspended. Hello Ladies: It was a quiet day at work and several of you asked for the template I used to do my passport-style STDs. So I've cleaned it up and its attached. It's in PowerPoint, because I find it easier to work in when I'm moving text and images all over the place. You can see images of the mock up of mine at: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t13417 Some general hints: 1. Print the first two pages on cardstock, double sided 2. Print the last two pages on regular paper, double sided 3. Before you print, delete the outline (box) from pages 2 & 4 - that way when you cut from the front, you won't have any "missed lines" on the back. But I left the outlines there so you could see it when you were editing. 4. On pages 3 & 4 (which end up being the inside pages), the outlines are a teeny bit narrower than pages 1 & 2, because otherwise when you fold it the pages stick out a bit. 5. Cut the straight lines first, then staple them down the middle (there's a very faint line down the cover - staple ends to the inside) 6. After you've stapled them, then fold them, then cut (or punch) the corners so they all match. Fonts that I used (all available from dafonts.com): 1. Passions Conflict (the swirly one) 2. PR Compass Rose (to make the compass rose over the photo) 3. Artistamp Medium (to make the passport stamps) 4. Stampede (to make the passport stamps) 5. Rub This! (to make the passport stamps) All of the other fonts (arial, tahoma, lucida sans typewriter, antique olive) should be standard on your computers. A note on the passport stamps - all of the ones on the last page are pasted as enhanced metafile pictures - it makes the file smaller and the images easier to size, rotate, etc. I've included the separate file that has the full text of the stamps so you can edit what I have, and then paste in on your own. The stamp on the inside page is editable in the main file. If you struggle with anything, I'd be delighted to help in any way I can. Just PM me and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
  7. I think that's great. Too many kids are over-indulged these days. Way to go mean mom!!
  8. I agree, definitely a faux pas to put the registry info in your invites. You don't want people thinking your wedding is a big gift-grab. Put it on your website, or let people ask.
  9. Ugh! What a pain this all is. First, I agree - if they want to stay somewhere else, then they need to know about and be responsible for the day pass. With regard to the photog, I assume it is their choice where to stay. In that case, I would point out that you agreed to 3 nights at your resort - so figure out what the cost would have been and tell her that since she chose to do otherwise, you will pay $X (the equivalent of the three nights) for meals, accomodation, day passes, etc. and that any overruns will be her responsibility.
  10. I think its great that you took a breather. I've only been at this for a month, and I'm awed at what some people have done. Sometimes I feel like I'm not doing enough... and some times too much! So vent on!
  11. This is such great advice!! I was so worried about what summer heat and humidity would do to my makeup. And now Mac and BeneFit are added to my "must haves" list.
  12. You will often have to leave them. Unless you're dealing with a jewelry designer, many retail places won't have engraving equipment on site.
  13. Beth: It's been several years since I was in the Bucerias area, but I remember a restaurant called Mike's or Michaels that was great fun - open air, great food. Its not on the beach, though.
  14. Welcome and congrats on (mostly) identifying a venue. I'm still struggling...
  15. I think they are great. And I agree, even if they don't wear them all the time, they are a lovely token.
  16. What to say... people are so inconsiderate. And I'm sure the guy factor is a major contributor. My suggestion, get a nice, big fluffy pillow, go over to FFIL's house, ring the bell and when he opens the door, just whomp him with the pillow. You'll feel better, he'll be dumbstruck. It will be great. Okay, I admit this is a fantasy I have ALL THE TIME about my FILs.
  17. We're doing them separately - wedding in Mexico, and then a cruise in the So Pacific for our honeymoon in November. HELLO Tahiti!!
  18. Okay, its a bit OOT, I know, but we have a really good vacuum with a hepa filter. I use the soft brush attachment on the hose to dust. Goes into the vac, stays in the vac. But change your filters - more often than is recommended - we do ours 3x/year and it really does cut down on the dust/allergies. One other thought - use endust over pledge. Pledge has an oil in it that holds dust, while endust doesn't. It's not a cure-all but its a start. Trade off is that your furniture won't be quite as shiny when you're done dusting.
  19. Yes, they are the same, but as Morgan said, sometimes you won't have the third prong - but you can get a converter for that at your local hardware store for about $0.39
