  1. Paula: Everything looks fantastic! Congratulations, have the BEST time!!!!
  2. I haven't a clue. but you might look for just a stick and then cut a slit in the end. I'm wondering if maybe a florist or something would have them.
  3. Hi Maura! These are beautiful!!! So classy and elegant. They are very formal, but I think that's the feel you're going for, so I really don't have any suggestions (other than "accomodations") I agree that transportation will be provided between the Westin and the Church is appropriate. Love them!!
  4. We've got 40 that will be invited 25 = family; 15=friends
  5. So, for a heavy drinker I would figure 4 drinks/hour, minimum. And with a signature bev, I'd still up the wine and beer, but not all the way - some people won't want your signature bev, and you don't want to run out of other options. I guess, actually, that's the key - you don't want to run out. So make a guess at what you want, and then get 10-20% more.
  6. Maybe all my friends and family are a bunch of drunks, but I think you might be light on the quantities. If you assume that 1 bottle of wine = 5 glasses, then 2 cases of wine plus 4 cases of beer, then you've got 168 drinks in total. Then, if you assume people drink 2-3 drinks per hour, you've got 40 guests - let's assume they drink a non-alcoholic bev once every 3 drinks (so 2 alcoholic per hour) - you've got 80 alcoholic drinks per hour, or roughly 2 hours worth of alcohol. Like I said, my friends may be a bunch of lushes, but I'd increase your quantities. And I LOVE the idea of a signature bev. Go with something tropical that can be served on the rocks (so no need for a blender) maybe MaiTais or a fruit punch with booze (2 parts cranberry, 3 parts orange and 1 part pineapple with either (a) champagne or ( soda water and vodka is YUMMY).
  7. Okay ladies! You know you've seen the photo ads for wedding dresses where the model has bad hair or horrific posture or isn't attractive or is about 11 years old or somehow otherwise distracts you from the dress they're trying to sell you. Let's see your favorites! I'm posting this one - I think its the dress I'm buying. But really... the model? Could she at least look like she's happy as opposed to ready to kill the photog (or is she just constipated)?
  8. That is CLASSIC. And yes, most apply to me. But, for the record, there aren't that many Taco Bells in Manhattan. I know. I've looked. And none of them are open after 11.
  9. Oh dear. How can you tell him that you think its a bad idea? Because you've undoubtedly (if you're anything like me) all but dictatated everything thus far, and now that he wants to add his two cents, its not like you have a right to cut him off. Ugh. But, I'd let him know that maybe you're not fully behind the kilt thing, and bring up a few reasons - heat, what plaid, the real significance of kilts (do some research first), etc. Maybe you can dissuade him (because it sounds like its a bit of a random thought to him right now), but I'd act fast before the kilt thing takes hold.
  10. Hello Ladies (and gents)! So I went to try on dress #2 again last night. And I still really like it. But on a whim, I tried on this dress, and fell in love: It's perfect - Very beachy, so pretty, and I love the halter. Its got little sparkly beads here and there so it shimmers when I walk. I’ll have it shortened a bit, but not too much. Again, no photos of me in the dress (shop policy, strictly enforced), but I'm thinking I'm going to make a purchase this week... (and - totally off topic, I'm SO going to start a thread about the awful models they use in the ad photos!) What do you think? Be honest, please.
  11. This is a classic damned if you do, damned if you don't. My advice follows suit. Wait until AFTER Mexico. That is your moment to shine, don't muck it up with this kind of drama. Then when you're back tell GF that she's got 1 week to tell BIL what happenend or you will. And then schedule lunch or coffee or something with BIL so she knows your serious - and plan to take FH with you. If she tells him, then its just lunch and you and FH can be supportive if he needs a shoulder. If she doesn't then you and FH can tell him what happened. The important thing is that you make sure the message is not intended to be anything other than a statement of caring.
  12. To add my voice to the crowd - they are SO easy to make. Stich witchery is the answer, find the fabric you like, find a neutral backing (cheap felt is fine), put the stitch witchery between the two, iron, and you are done. I know it seems like a big deal, but the ladies at your fabric shop will help (they LOVE a bride-to-be), they'll probably even cut the fabric to size and shape for you. You can do it. We know you can.
  13. I love the auburn look. I'd do it if I had the guts. I say go for it!

Hi Stacey: Those are our monograms which I made. They really aren't hard to do. If you search under monogram, someone (probably Morgan) posted a great thread about how to make your own. You can see samples of what others have done in their siggys.
  15. Quick follow up. I saw your comment about the envelope for the boarding pass, and posted mine - they are very easy. You can find them here: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t14528

Hi Ladies: I saw a thread earlier about people struggling to get a ticket jacket together. I found one somewhere along the line and modified it a bit and it is super easy. Just put in your text or artwork, (note that in the middle, it looks best upside down), print it on card stock, cut off one corner, fold it along the fold lines and glue the inside flap down just at the bottom edge (below the border). The boarding passes that most of us have used fit just fine, and the whole thing fits perfectly in a #10 envelope. This is a picture of what ours will look like - you'll have to imagine it folded.
  17. FI and I are going to be legally married at city hall, and then have a symbolic marriage in RM. Personally, I see a lot of advantages in the sense that we don't have to worry about any mess-ups with paperwork, no need for blood tests (ick!), etc. That being said, we aren't lying to our families. We aren't advertising anything, but if they ask we'll tell them. We are making it an absolute no big deal. Not even going so far as to have dinner, etc. Its a formality - NOT our wedding. That solves a variety of your issues. But I can understand not wanting to go that route either. That's a personal decision and while there are lots of threads with this theme that can give you insight into other people's decisions, ultimately it is about what you want. Now, on the cost front, there are a variety of things I can suggest. First, enlist the help of a good TA. They have so much more bargaining power than you do and they can keep costs (particularly rooms) down. I believe Tammy (host) does this, and everyone loves her. I have my own who I can only rave about. If you'd like her info, PM me and I'll forward it your way. Other options - call a few other hotels. There are some really affordable ones. Then use the chance that you'll switch as leverage. But seriously? Call them - makes all the difference - you're now a voice with a personality, not just words on a screen. Hope that helps. And good luck!!!
  18. Love them all. But I like the palm tree best. And then the one with the sea grass. But I would encourage you to mix them.
  19. I usually leave my DL at home, too, unless I plan to drive. If you have your passport, that should be sufficient. I have travelled internationally quite a bit and have NEVER been asked for anything other than my passport.
