I told her what amount I did NOT want to go over and she picked out a package that would suit us then we added and deleted items from the package at our will. So far, they have been great to work with. I am not using them for the reception. I found a restaurant in Ocho Rios called Evitas and we are taking our group there. If you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer them. Me too! Except we will be arriving by cruise ship for the day only. We are working with Tropical Weddings Jamaica, which I have found nothing but rave reviews on quite a few forums. It does seem like she over prices some of the items to make a larger profit, but I felt confident choosing her so it was worth it to us. Everyone talks about how great she (Almarie) is, she will answer my questions for the most part, but she has been very short with me and not all that "wonderful." Basically, I literally researched every nonresort option and this was the company I felt the most comfortable with based on reviews and pictures. We will be having our lunch reception at Evita's. I can say nothing but good things about the owner, Eva. She is has been extremely helpful and very responsive. Good luck!
  2. I received a call from a vendor in Ocho Rios this afternoon (not RIU), she said the north side of the island was hardly impacted by Gustav. She did say communication has been a bit of a mess though. That's all the info I have...hope it helps.
  3. We are coming in by cruise ship and will be having our reception at Evita's, same as Desiree and TA Maureen. Eva, the owner, has been very responsive and helpful, and is by far the best vendor I have dealt with in Jamaica. Out of all the decisions we made, I am most confident about this one. Good luck!
  4. Another Option For the dad situation... I have heard of one father walking the bride up to the start of the aisle and then handing off to the "closer" father to walk the bride down the aisle and give her away. I guess this really only works when you aren't inside a building and have to walk a distance to get to the aisle.
  5. You should look into Michael Saab's work, he is based in Jamaica. I am not sure if his style is what you are looking for, but I think his work is amazing. He is out of our budget though Jamaica Wedding Photographer, Montego Bay, Negril, Ocho Rios, Kingston, Port Antonio, Jamaica Wedding

How much do the wraps cost
  7. I think I have chosen to go with #1, thanks for all the input!! My friend has tried it on and although she is a little curvy, I think it looks great on her. Also, I think it is the best option for my sister. Frankly, I am just tired of shopping for them....I think I know by heart all the dresses in stock at Macys, Ann Taylor, Dillards, Nordstrom and many more. I could keep looking, but the dresses I choose determine my colors and I am dying to know what my colors will be so I can start on other projects. Thanks for all the advice!
  8. Do you have any pictures of the spa wraps, I am not seeing them on the website? Thanks! That could work for the guys, especially if they travel.

  10. The item number is 34/1124, you can enter it in the search field and they come up. When they are in stock they will come up if you just enter "raffia fan," but unfortunately they are out of stock again! So you can compare to other sites and decide if you want to wait.... they were $7.99 per dozen and the basic s/h was $6.95 when I ordered 2 dozen.
  11. Thanks girls! I think the pictures make the dresses look like they are closer in color than they actually are. I don't think I could get away with using both. I wish I could though! Now I am not sure what do do!
  12. SO I only have two BM's, my 12yr old sister and 26 yr old best friend. I really wanted to buy off the rack and not get an expensive dress that needs alterations that they will never wear again. I also need to find a style that would work for them both (my sister has no chest). I picked up two styles at the Macys one day sale yesterday, and I would like to get some opinions. My sister is out of state so I need to pick one and send it. My friend likes both options. My colors will be deternined by which dresses I find. Here are the choices so far....what do you think? Sorry the pics aren't so good, I took them of myself (excuse the mess, it was laundry day). First, here is my dress... Style #1 (a little darker wine/sangria color with bubble hem) Style #2 (brighter magenta/pink) I would use a bright lime/grassy green for my accent color with both (I think).
  13. Great Pics! This is the honeymoon spot we are considering!
  14. I have been stalking OTC for weeks now, and they finally have fans back in stock...so I thought I would share! Sorry if I didn't post in the correct section.
  15. Here is my dress! I originally found this Moonlight dress in a couple bridal shops, but ended up getting it for nearly half the price on bestbridalprices.com, brand new with tags. It still needs alterations. Detailing on both sides (lace/swaroski crystals, etc) sorry, can't figure out how to make the pics bigger.
  16. We had considered a Key West wedding, but decided on a cruise that did not include it in the itinerary. We were thinking Roof Top Cafe for the reception, and had come across some great pics and reviews. That's all the info I have for you. Good luck!
  17. I know most brides have just used the steel drum band provided by a resort, but does anyone know of how I might go about hiring one myself for a beach ceremony at Reggae Beach? Does anyone know the name of the RIU band? Thanks!
  18. We are having our ceremony at Reggae Beach in Ocho Rios, and then a lunch reception at Evita's. We are using Tropical Weddings Jamaica, I have seen nothing but great reviews for this company on here and cruise critic...however, I haven't found Almarie (the owner) to be as helpful as others have. But I am very confident that she will deliver in the end. The beach is very private, secluded and shaded. That is my location suggestion, but of course I am biased.
  19. I feel your pain...I ran into multiple places like that. I think it is a ridiculous business practice! What other store would you go in and they hide the brands, heck most the time prices are based on the designer/brand name alone...if you are shelling out the money you should get to know what you are buying. Good luck! I will keep an eye out.
  20. We are sailing on Celebrity and have decided to use our own vendors in Jamaica. I have read more horror stories than good about using Royal Romance or The Wedding Experience (the contracted WC for the cruislines). You can definitely use an outside WC, transportation, photographer, etc. and do it all on your own. For instance we have arranged transportation for 30 people at $15 pp to take us anywhere we want for the whole day in port, so I definitely think you may find better deals. However, in my research I did notice that things cost more in the Bahamas than Jamaica. You could even arrange your own ceremony in port and then arrange with the groups department to have an open bar cocktail party back on the ship that evening, which is usually pretty inexpensive. Also, the Bahamas have a little stricter wedding requirements, I believe you have to be in Bahama waters for at least 24 hours, or something like that. Good luck!
  21. Welcome to the forum. Great photos! I grew up in Seminole!
  22. I was just wondering if anyone who used Tropical Weddings Jamaica hired the steel drum band for their ceremony? If so, how were they and were you able to choose from a song list? Thanks!

I feel you on this one. Our famlies have been wonderful, but our friends are now MIA. EVeryone couldn't shutup about when we were going to get married before we were engaged, and now that invitations are out and deposits are due no one says a word. Try not to let it all get to you, ultimately the day is about you and your future husband, you should spend the day how you guys want!
