  2. the sun definitely doesn't take 4 hours to set in mexico! You'll have to stop taking pictures probably half an hour or 15 minutes before the official sunset time, seeing as the sunsets behind the buildings and trees, so it gets dark before sunset. For my wedding last month the sunset time was 6:15pm, we had the ceremony at 3pm, so we had about 2 hours for photos afterwards (3:45-5:45) and that was great. An hour and a half would probably have been okay, but we would have been more rushed (don't get me wrong, we were still rushing a bit, but not crazy rushed). Of course if you are going to see your husband before then you can get lots of pictures then. I didn't want to see mine before, so we only did pictures of ourselves alone and with bridal party and with our individual families beforehand.

  4. I bet the Gatwick airport wide restriction has more to do with increased security measures as a result of the near terrorist attack (like when they changed the rules to no liquids and gels). I had no problems with my 2 carry-ons and one very large purse when I was in Cancun last month
  5. I also have adult acne, what a pain in the ass. Birth control helps a lot but I still get some pimples. The birth control did get rid of 99.9% of the back and chest acne though, thank goodness, I found that more annoying and embarrassing than the face acne. Now I get a back or chest pimple like every few months. Right now I am on Yasmine BC (used to be on Diane 35 which is great for acne. It's slightly higher risk than other BCs though. Yasmine is made by the same company as Diane but slightly lower risk) I also use clindoxyl which is a perscription acne cream. If I use it every night my skin is almost perfect. Only problems is that it does stain, so it's best to use white pillowcases and white towels.

I'm thinking about doing the same thing but with a sage green colour instead. Not too sure about the starfish though as they will take up a lot of luggage space. They would be nice to have though. Oops, didn't realize you were already on the list. There are so many of us it's hard to keep track!
  7. The idea of bringing the tulle and starfish and leaving them with sandra is a great one! They know about this forum (Landy mentioned it to me once) so whoever leaves the stuff could tell them there is a bunch of people on here that are expecting to be able to use it (just to make sure it doesn't surprisingly "go missing") I'm surprised that they said they don't have a "secret stash" of stuff left behind. I'm sure people leave stuff!

Landy told me they used all that they had for that half of it. But maybe the've bought more since then to be able to do the whole thing.
  9. Mine arrived yesterday but nobody was home to receive it, and my husband didn't get home with our only car until after they were closed. Can't wait to go get mine tonight. I have to pay 13$ worth of duties (I'm in Canada) which I think is bullshit because I thought with NAFTA you didn't have to pay duty on stuff that originates in the US, that you only pay when the stuff is originally from China or something. Seeing as the book was physically made in the US I don't know why I have to pay duty, but oh well, it's only 13$ for 2 books.

You really did start a nice trend with the Tulle...I am just afraid that with all the crap that I am already bringing for the welcome bags - Tulle will be a bit much --- but it does look quite nice and truly carries out the color of the wedding. Maybe I can volunteer a guest to bring it for me I have been asked about the starfish several times but not on here, in the thread with my review! Anways, yes I did bring them myself, I bought them at Micheals for a few dollars each. There are many online stores (and ebay) that sell them for cheaper but the shipping to Canada was very expensive (would not be a problem for most of you!). I packed them in shoeboxes. I could only put about 5 per shoebox so it would take a lot of space if you had a lot of guests! But you could always just do the back row, since that's really the only would that would show in pictures from the back! The tulle doesn't take up much space if you pull out the cardboard it's wrapped around. I would ask Sandra/Landy if they have bought any tulle, seeing as they are getting this request so often it wouldn't surprise me at all if they have (although if they did it would probably just be white). It doesn't make sense for all the brides to bring their own if almost everyone is requesting the set-up like this.
  11. Piggy and MMonto, are you guys reserved at DT or are you asking questions because you are considering the resort? If you are booked, you should tell us your date on this thread http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t14762 so that I can add you to our list! It's fun to keep track of who is coming up next, and then we have all the links to reviews and pictures in one place.

I know initially when I chose the resort I was confused because on the website it said gazebo was only included in the larger packages, not the free package (I think that info was for Dreams Cancun, but they had the same wedding package info for Dreams Tulum!) It's definitely not a gazebo like the bigger structures at other resorts, i.e. Dreams Cancun, Bahia Principe Tulum, I think some people have refered to the DT Gazebo as a Chuppah, which when I wikipediaed the word makes sense (although a Chuppah is a jewish thing, and we're obviously not all jewish).
  13. Beautiful photos! I love the pose of the groom and groomsmen leaning on palm trees, it's a great pose idea I've never seen before. Your aisle flowers were a little different than mine since you had white ones with the pink lilies and I only had the pink lilies. Your dress was kinda similar to mine! i.e. the crystals on the top, the rouching on the side. Your gazebo tulle matched perfect with your dresses! I'm thinking maybe the reason you didn't have to pay to make El Patio private is because the restaurant is not that big, and 50 people more or less fills it up so there would not have been space for others? Or maybe it's because you had the ultimate package? I was told with the ultimate package you could have a free private reception on the beach, although I'm pretty sure she said you still had to pay the 750$ for private in the restaurants. Oh well, good for you!

Yes, the rock area on the south end of the beach is probably the most popular spot for pictures! It's pretty much right next to the gazebo (you can see it in between the gazebo in this picture. This picture is taken a an angle facing down the beach rather than directly facing the water which is why you can see the rocks) However, if you want to get married directly in front of the rocks, I'm guessing you would be allowed, but you would not have a gazebo set-up, just a table and chairs I guess. Why don't you ask the wedding coordinators? Although of course this is something that you could wait to ask when you arrive.

  16. So happy to hear everything went great for you IoawChik22! You should do a full out review! I'd love to hear more. So you obviously had a male minister which is different than me (had a lady, and did not have problems with her saying thank you too much!). Can't wait to see your pictures when I get home (work blocks all photo sites for me). Thats so funny about the reaction to the gazebo request. There has only been one or two other DT from BDW who've gotten married since me, but there are probably lots of lurkers who don't post here who saw it in my review, as well as people who saw it on trip advisor. That's too bad about your pictures, I hope the quality of the digital files is good so that you can get them reprinted. EDIT: Just got to see your photos, you have lots of great ones! Your gazebo looked beautiful too! And I see that you got the same palm/flower arrangements for the aisle that I has asked them to do- did you specially request that or is it their new "standard" way of doing it? Congratulations!
  17. The DPA is hardly farther from the ruins, it's like 2 minutes down the road! You can't walk to the ruins from DT anyways (like a 5 minute drive) so that shouldn't really make a difference. I doubt the wedding coordinators will catch on - in fact I can pretty much guarantee the DT ones won't! I got an email this week from Landy answering the question I sent her like 2 months ago asking for a copy of the wedding text! This even though I got married a month ago (I'm surprised she didn't recognize my name, but then again, they deal with so so many brides)! I laughed! They really have way too many emails to try to keep up with.

I still cant make up my mind. What is the price difference between the two? I personally would be just a little concerned with DPA since you don't know what it will be like after the renovations (or if they will even be finished in time, these things always take longer than planned). Also there are no DPA brides on here to get advice from! So DT seems more like a safe choice. BUT, if there was a significant price difference, it would make it worth the risk for me since price was one of the most important factors.
  19. I didn't get married in the DR but wanted to comment anyways. My beach wedding was both hot and windy, but the combination is what made the weather bearable. If we had gotten married elsewhere on teh resort where there was no wind, we would have been way too hot, but on the beach we were fine!
  20. Great review, you did lots of special little things which I'm sure your guests appreciated. And don't worry, that wasn't too long (have you seen mine? yikes!)
  21. Are you on the weddingsbells forum as well (a canadian forum?) A lot of brides have used your agent. I've heard of both good expereinces and bad (don't want to suggest that there is more of one type than the other because I don't know, most people don't post much if they have problems with their agent out of fear of the agents seeing the comments, so they discuss their issues via PM with others) I think a 9 hour layover is completely unacceptable. If I was your guest I would be pissed, no offense (and in general, I am very much a "it's your wedding and do what you want and I'll be happy for you and won't complain" type of person). Luckily you have lots of time to do something about it. At an absolute minimum you should get free hotel rooms, but changing to a better flight would be better. If there are no other flights available, I can understand, but your agent DEFINITELY should have pointed this out to you. Sure, maybe it was on your itinerary, but I can see how you could have missed it. She definitely should have warned you clearly about it before you booked or put down deposits!
  22. wow, it all looks great! Can't wait for you to come back and tell us all about your DT wedding! And especially pictures!!!!
