  1. if the sharpie doesn't work, try some fabric paint. There are different types, check out a craft store like michaels. You are lucky it was black. I ruined a BRAND NEW suit with one tiny drop of bleach (seriously, the stain is like the size an ant). It felt on the pants, but the pants are like taupe color with off-white pin stripes. Once the pants were ruined, I had no use for the blazer
  2. wow, what excellent communication. you brides are lucky. The coordintaor at our resort just let too and brides in planning did eventually get a short email but nothing like this. Try not to worry too much about your planning, even though she is leaving I'm sure she will do a good job briefing the new planner
  3. I personally would not bring a gift becuase I think it gets to be a bit much when you buy a couple an engagement gift, shower gift and wedding gift.
  4. In my opinion, based on a recent one week vacation with my husband, there was not much to do off resort besides the usual organized excusions (which are usually pretty similar no matter where you are). Punta Cana is not very developed (not like Jamaica or Mayan Riviera). You can't just get in a cab or a bus and go do excursions on your own. The problem with organized excursions is that they usually cost like 100$ or more per person, which is why I personally like to do a few do-it-yourself type excursions - but there wasn't really any opportunities for that in PC (unless you are very very resourceful) That being said, and even though we were bored, I would definitely go back because the beach was just amazing!
  5. I didn't like any of the flowers in the packages and they couldn't do the inspiration photos I brought (no hybiscus because it wilts too fast and they didn't have the other flowers). Landy got on the phone and msn (both) with the florist while I was there and they were chatting with me telling Landy what I would like and the florist sending a bunch of pictures. Landy worked so hard to try to get something I'd like. I'd suggest just showing up there with several different inspiration photos (unless it's something simple like hot pink roses, you wouldn't necessarily need a picture, they will understand).
  6. Yay, finally a review that's longer than mine! I thought I was nuts for writing a review that was 20 pages long (in microsoft word) becuase I had never seen another one that long. I'm sure it will be greatly appreciated because I know mine was. It's so usefull for future brides to know all the little details, especially the negative stuff.
  7. I think 2000$ sounds like a reasonable price for a very nice reasort coming from Regina (not the cheapest place in Canada to leave from!) Tell your husband that the people who can't afford that price can always wait and try to book last minute (especially, if like soembody else mentioned, you go with a chain like Riu where there are different resorts next to eachother in different price ranges). They may not get a spot, but if there is still availability those people might get the trip for about 500$ less Try to go in early February instead of late February if you can. Since the university reading weeks are usually end of February the chances of last minute availability is a lot less (and price a lot higher, maybe not when booking in advance, but definitely when booking last minute)
  8. we had 7: parents, sisters and one sister's boyfriend. A few very close friends were also invited but couldn't make it (teachers). Lots of other relatives would have liked to come but we decided not to invite extended families.
  9. I would guess it took me 30 seconds to a minute. The girls went first to the same song (canon in D). I couldn't see them because I was hidden behind the restaurant. I kept asking my Dad "what's taking so long" and he was peeking to see and he was like "nothing, it's just a long aisle!" It probably only took them 30 seconds or so each but the coordinator waited until my sister was all teh way there before starting my SIL (I thought my SIL was going to start when my sister was like halfway there or soemthing, but really, it didn't matter). So that makes a difference too, whether the people are walking the whole way alone, or whether you have the next people start right behind or a little ways behind the previous ones. So for my two bridesmaids and me at let's say 30 seconds - 1 minute each I guess than it took like 2-3 minutes total. I agree that fading the song is the easiest. Waiting at the front more than like 20 seconds for the song to end would be awkward I think.
  10. you could always do it on your own, without your new husband! I mean, it's called Trash the Dress not Trash the Suit!!! Obviously you wouldn't do nearly as many photos and poses, but, what I'm getting at, is just because your husband doesn't want to shouldn't stop you from getting a few photos taken of you lying on the beach and in the water with your dress.
  11. our package also came with a room for the groom the night before, we didn't use it for the night but he did use it to get ready before the ceremony. I was in my room pretty much the whole time and only went on the beach for some photos at the time that I knew he was showering and stuff, so I wasn't worried at all. My room was right in front of the ceremony site, so when I walked out of the building and then went to hide behind the restaurant until my walk down teh aisle, he saw me a bit when I was walking from the building to the restaurant, but I was so far it's not like he saw me or my dress properly so I didn't care, plus I was walking down the aisle like 3 minutes later (just waiting for the music and the bridesmaids to walk first)
  12. INSTRUCTIONS FOR DOWNLOADING SUNBRIDE'S NEWSLETTER Everyone can access the newsletter here: 4shared - free file sharing and storage - share folder - My 4shared So now no need for anyone to PM me asking for it (I've gotten a gazillion requests). Just go to that link and click on the document, then click download, then a new page will open and you have to wait a few seconds (it says "loading file info, please wait"), and then click download file (middle of the page, under where it says "no virus detected"). If you have problems, please PM me rather than filling up our beautiful Dreams tulum thread with Qs&As about downloading the file. It's a microsoft word file.
  13. I posted mine in the Dreams Tulum thread. There is actually lots in it that isn't specific to Dreams Tulum which you could use so I'll post it again here: I've saved a copy with all the personal info deleted, so that you can make it your own if you want. The pictures below give you an idea what it looked like before I deleted the more personal stuff Continued below...

For me, my shipping was only I think 8$ at checkout, but then after clicking next and going through the borderfree part of the checkout, gst and pst were added, as well as another fee (I forget, I think maybe it was a handling free for borderfree) so that made my order go up by about 15$ or something. I was really annoyed about the last minute surprise (my order was only like 30$ and now all my shipping & other additional charges were almost as much as my order!) but went through with the purchase anyways. They calculate the duty for you, so you'll never get a surprise duty bill with the delivery, that's the purpose of borderree. Quote: Originally Posted by Helen_S81 I also didn't have to pay any duty. 15. I thought it was slightly cheesy but I liked the photos so decided to do it anyways. I wasn't planning on using my actual dress, because I needed it for my AHR and want to sell it after (and my parents would have been so hard on me if it got ruined, saying it's so stupid). So I bought a long white slim fitting dress on sale to use for that. But on my wedding day the bottom got wet a little and it was obvious that the ocean was actually making it cleaner, not dirtying it at all. So I ended up wearing it! Afterwards I rinsed it in the shower and it came out so clean that I didn't even bother dry cleaning it before the AHR! If I hadn't cleaned it in the ocean/shower I defintiely would have needed to dry clean it because it got so dirty with sand on my wedding day. we didn't have that much fun doing the shoot (like others have said), it was more posed (i.e. not like "okay you guys have fun and I'll just take the photos"). I think it depends on the photographer's style, also we were on the resort beach with people around, and the beach at our resort was kinda crappy so we were trying to work around it to be at the good parts, and sometimes we would step on rocks which was painful. Also we had woken up early to do it, when really we would have liked to sleep in and do it later (but then the beach would have been too busy). That didn't help because although my husband didn't mind the idea of the shoot, he wasn't happy about getting up early. My photographer seemed tired too. Anyways, all around it was more like work than fun, but I don't mind, the photos are awesome, I just didn't have the experience others have of saying it was really fun. I think the photographer's style would determine a lot of this seeing as some don't do posing they just capture whatever is going on
  16. ****sorry if there is already a thread like this, I did a search for clip art but I got tons of relevant results. I can move the post if necessary, just tell me where to put it I've uploaded the destination wedding backgrounds (great to use for invitations!) and clip art that I have to google documents. Go to the link and right click to save. NOTE: it's best to go to the link rather than just clicking on the image in the post and saving, because those have been resized smaller, whereas if you go to the link you get the original sized document. 00_invitation background1 00_invitation background2 00 invitation background3 00 invitation background3 double palm tree clip art double palm tree clip art Maybe others can follow and post some more? Just create yourself a google account (doesn't have to be a google mail account, I used my yahoo email account to create a google account for the picture sharing program picasa and for google documents, without getting a google email account). Upload your documents. You can't share the entire folder (unfortunately, this would have been simpler) but click on each document or photo (so that it opens, not just putting the checkmark next to it) and then click on share (like I said, you have to have the document actually open, viewing it, not be in the folder just seeing the title) and then select publish, and then you will be given a link which you can post
  17. just curious, is your resort Grand Oasis Riviera Mayan or another? I was considering that one (GORM) because the price was amazing at the time I was looking, but I really wanted a 5 star (it was rated 4.5 star) so I went with Dreams Tulum. While I don't regret my decision, I think I'll keep the GORM in mind for a future trip because the beach looks great, and most of the resorts in the mayan riviera had crappy beaches (including Dreams Tulum, rough sand and rocky ocean, was disappointed about this). Also they have beach beds! And the infinity pool is beautiful. Anyways, if it isn't the Rivera Maya one you are going to then sorry for going so off topic.
  18. you're best off checking out this huge thread for info and answers to your questions http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t7767

I used the same starfish as the chairs but spray painted them white (had to do many many coats before they were well covered) I used the same pins for the larger starfish for the chairs...... I just want to say thx to the person posted this attatchement I'm not sure who is it.....I just copied and paste idea on my computer .. As soon as I saw the boutonniers I fell in love w/ them....It shouldn't be that hard to make....I think That's mine! Haha, this discussion was too funny seeing as it was going on about me without my noticing. So I got to the post above and started reading and I was like "wow, this person did just like me" (was especially surprised about the painting them white, because I had never seen anyone else do that) and then I open the attachment and they are mine, haha. Too funny. And then there is the picture of me (totally unrelated) on page 2 which also made me laugh. But I'm glad I've been helpful. All that info was in the replies of my review (link below) No my dress is not a maggie sottero, it's a Mori Lee, but yes it is very similar to a Maggie Sottero one. I'll actually be selling it in a few weeks (after my AHR) if you are interested. It's a size 8 but has the lace-up corset in the back so it would be adjustable to probably like a size 10 or something. I normally wear a 7 or 9 for pants size and 7 for dresses so the fact that the dress is a 7/8 is pretty accurate I think (I know some people say their dress sizes were way off). Also the rouching to the side makes it very flattering if you don't have a perfect stomach! The dress is an older model I think, like 2006 I think I saw somewhere? But it is still available at some online stores, you'd probably have trouble finding it at an actual store. The style is 2820 As for making the starfish boutonniers.... I got my starfish at Micheals, the small oens come in packs of 3 for about 5 bucks. There is no other chain store in Canada that I found that sold starfish. Ordering them online is cheaper, but shipping to Canada was expensive. The downside is the 3 starfish are slightly different sizes. But my dad is about twice as big as my father in law, so I just gave my dad the bigger one! I would say they are approx 2-3 inches. You can buy the clasps at Micheals, Wal-mart, pretty much anywhere. They are SOOO easy, took about 2 minutes to make. Most other people don't bother painting them white, they leave them the natural orange color. I like that too, I just tried this out for fun and thought it looked good so I kept with it.
  20. we only had 7 guests, although the hotel wanted to do 2 rows of chairs (i.e. 2 on each side, 2 rows, so 8 chairs just to make it even) I said I wanted everyone in one row so they could see everything perfectly. It did mean there was no aisle at all formed by the chairs, but you can use something much nicer for the aisle, I got some flower arrangements with palm leaves (the resort did them for free actually!!!) but I've also seen people use starfish or large shells.

But it's just a little suggestion, not very important and maybe not really worthwhile.
  22. Sucks to hear things didn't go as planned, I'm curious to find out the details, and see more pics!
  23. Hey guys, I notice some of the threads specific to one hotel (like ours: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t7767) are in the area forum (like the Mayan Riviera forum) whereas others (like this one: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t786) are in the accomodations sub-forum. Maybe in order to keep things more organized and easy to find (I notice the mods on here are always working hard to do that!) all threads like that should be in the accomodations sub-forum. It would be more consistent. Just an idea. Also, I've noticed on other forums that sometimes the topics from sub-forums show up in the larger forums (so in this case, the topics from the mayan riviera accomodations sub-forum would show up when you are in the general mayan riviera forum). Again, just an idea. Because right now, I wonder how many people actually realize the difference between the area forum and the accomodations sub-forum. Same for the vendor sub-forum. Most vendor and accomodations questions are just in the regular area forum rather than in the appropriate sub-forums, so what is the purpose of the sub-forums? Just throwing out some ideas
  24. oh I guess the DPA thread must be in the Accomomdations sub-forum of the MR forum, I never go there since our DT thread is just in the general MR forum EDIT: nevermind, I'm stupid, I do remember seeing the thread in the regular MR forum, that's how I knew you were thinking of changing from DT to DPA. But that does beg the question, why are some of the hotel specific threads in the MR forum whereas others are in the Accomodations sub-forum of teh MR forum? Sorry to go on an off-topic tangent. I just started a new topic on this subject in the suggestions sub-forum http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...004#post399402
