I planned my Dreams Tulum wedding in 3.5 months so it's definitely do-able. check out that resort. They offer private receptions at restaurants, on the beach, or in the new conference center. There is a huge thread in the mayan riviera section about this resort. If you can't get a hold of wedding coordinators by email, try phoning them, you may have to try several times before you get a hold of them but you can get a quicker, and more complete answer (the opportunity to ask for alternative dates) that way

but the problem with silk is would you pick them all up after? if not it's littering. With natural petals it wouldn't be littering

Do you stalk your registries?
SunBride replied to Alyssa's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
as expected, nobody is buying from mine, because we haven't been getting a lot of gifts - no shower, plus with it being a destination wedding people aren't buying us gifts as much. People coming to the formal receptions have been getting us gifts but mostly cash. So I have checked a few times. If stuff was actually being purchased from them a lot then I would definitely be checking a lot. -
mine were shipped from canada, so probably printed in canada too and the printing must be different. so you guys find that it is the same as a regular postcard? They are definitely thicker than regular paper, but only about half as thick as a regular postcard (and I'm not talking canadian postcards, because I have postcards from all over the world!) So I would say they are kinda like photo paper? Maybe I'll call and complain, I assumed it was the norm but now I think it's to do with their canadian printing shop. Thanks amandalovesryan but I have mine aleady designed (as in my signature).

What is the biggest source of conflict in your relationship?
SunBride replied to Alyssa's topic in Chit Chat Corner!
we still fight over chores after 5.5 years together and 4 years of living together! My husband grew up not having to do anything aruond the house - he would leave milk out on the counter and his mom would put it away without saying a word. It's been really hard to get him to contribute to cleaning without me nagging at him to do it - he never thinks of doing it on his own. I don't mind asking once but I do mind when I'm told "later" or "after this show" and a couple days later it's still not done. Anyways, it's slowly getting better. He is getting used to teh idea of having regular chores to do (clean up after supper, mow the lawn, vacuum). I still do way more than he does but his contributions help a lot. It's not so much the uneven workload we fight about, but the fact that I have to nag him to get his part done. -
Initially when I started reading your post I thought it was a bit tacky but when I got to the end I realized you were right, what better gift that wedding souvenirs. So, that being said, I think it would help if you wrote a little note or rhyme to go along with the photog registry info, something like "what better gift than to help us remember our wedding day forever". It might get people thinking about why it's a good idea, rather than them thinking "oh she wants us to pay her wedding bills" (which was kinda my first thought before thinking about the memories part)

they are so thin! Like thiner than cardstock and WAY thinner than a regular postcard. I was just pulling out out of the box and I creased the edge and there is a crease mark. I'm scared they are going to get badly messed up when mailed. I'll write "do not bend" on the envelope but I don't think that will be enough. I'm thinking of including a really thin piece of cardboard / thick cardstock with them to avoid folds, but that would be a lot of work to cut enough of them (and don't know where I'd find that much cardboard/thick cardstock). It's not that big of a deal considering the price I paid (20$ for 50 - they were free but I added envelopes for 5$ and the cheapest shipping to canada was 15$)

What to do with these favor things?
SunBride replied to ErinB's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
definitely fill them yourself, people many people probably wouldn't bother doing it. Then hand them out at the reception with a note attached. What a great souvenir of your wedding! -

I just get so much of the whitening stuff mixing in with my saliva that it would seem bad to swallow those chemicals (I mean you're not even suppose to swallow regular toothpaste - this I know is on the package). Will have to check the package to see if I made that up.

like jmhein says, it's really not so bad, you only pay the 15$ per print if you don't get a package. i.e. you buy the initial package at 160$/180$ (or free with royal/caprice) which gets you 6/10 print (or 12 with royal and 24 with caprice) and then if you want a few more you pay 15$ each. Seems reasonable to me seeing as so far he's only made 160/180$ off you. But there are tons of packages offered. To me 200 photos on CD for 750$ (plus initial package price of 160/180 or free) seems pretty reasonable and WAY cheaper than flying in your own photographer! Also, somebody asked what was included with the free package, well according to the info here if you have the Royal or Caprice package with free photography included, you get 12 (royal) or 24 prints (caprice). If you meant the free wedding package (not the free photography that comes with royal & caprice) there is no photography included (which seems reasonable, you are getting your wedding package free!) I'm not even getting married at this resort, so sorry for jumping in, I was just surprised so many people were complaining about cost. Seems equivalent with other resorts. Mostly I was just impressed with the detailed price list provided. -
I've used crest white strips. I find them so uncomfortable to use, the strips move and the paste gets everywhere and you can't swallow so my whole mouth gets to be a bit huge slobbery mess! hehe. I've heard others have less problem (maybe my mouth just creates more saliva when I don't swallow). I just can't believe how in the commercial they are like "wear them in the shower, wear them in the car, where them at work" yeah right! I can't even talk my mouth is so full of saliva, and once in a while I have to stick a kleenex in there to absorb it (if I spit the strips will come right out) hehe They make a version now that you only have to wear for I think like 5 minutes instead of 30. They do cause tooth sensitivity for me. It's the worst when I use 2 strips one after another (you have to use 2 a day, and you can do it at two seperate times, or you can do it one after another according to the package). The results are good, I don't notice an enormous difference because my teeth are already very white but my mom used to have coffee stained teeth and now she has the whitest teeth of anyone I know, just from using the white strips (she's been using one box every 6 months for about 5 years). I would definitely recommend you give them a try and see what you think. Overall I'm not totally happy but I would continue to use them.

4 cups per square foot? wow that sounds like a lot! We only got one bag for the whole aisle, probably like 4-6 cups! But it obviously completely depends on the look you want. Sorry can't post a picture now. I was also worried about them flying away but it's not a problem if they are placed on the ground before, like the person should have their hand just above the sand when they are spreading them. None blew away and it was really windy. But I can see how if you let them go at waist level they would all blow away.

I didn't really spend any time in the veranda bar so I can't say. I only went in for my briefing with the tour operator. From what I do remember, it's not a very upscale fancy place, more rustic looking (i.e. like wicker chairs and stuff). Plus it's indoors, although I think it's fairly airy (i.e. lots of open windows?) but can't remember for sure. Another option would be the sugar reef bar, which is right next to the chapel. It's a completely open area with wicker style chairs and benches. If you want to keep people outdoors (but with a roof over their heads to keep them in the shade) then it's a good option. Although since it's more open, the group might not be as "together" as they would be in the veranda bar. The veranda bar was pretty dead the couple times I walked by so your group might pretty much have it to themselves (although maybe I just walked by at times when it wasn't busy). The lobby bar would definitely be the most upscale version. People could get to the lobby bar by walking from the chapel towards teh back of the hotel, and then turn left at the giftshop and head to the lobby without going anywhere near the Seaside Grill. This way would be slightly closer than going through the pool/beach and up the main walkway (i.e. in front of the lobby). But I don't know if you would be successful in getting everyone to walk that way (you'd have to have somebody kinda leading the group). I'll try to remember to update the map tonight to add where the main walkways are. In the picture the entire right side of the resort seems like a jumble of buildings, but there is actually a nice open walkway going through it.

I need a drink....And its only Wednesday!!!
SunBride replied to twinkletoes's topic in Just venting or funnies
wow, that's too bad about your maid of honour. While telling you in person would probably be best, I think that she did at least write you a very nice email and obviously feels horribly about the situation. Maybe she thought email was better than phone/in person so that she could express herself carefully. I actually think she did a very good job explaining the situation and apologizing, and at least realizes that was she did was horrible and that it make take you a little while to forgive her. I hope you guys work (or have already worked) things out. -
So my bad turns to worse...(another long vent post)
SunBride replied to twinkletoes's topic in Just venting or funnies
I'm so sorry about your bad luck. About the wedding, I think some resorts don't carefully keep track of your brides, so they probably just sent you that info thinking you were a new bride, not somebody already booked. My coordinator did a great job when I was there, but wasn't so good by email. For example, I asked for a copy of the wedding ceremony text, and she only emailed it to me a month after my wedding! So even though she had already spent 3 days organizing my wedding she didn't recognize my name when she replied to that email AFTER my wedding! I'm sure it's just a mixup like that. The job loss and miscarriage are obviously much worse. I'm so sorry. At least you have the wedding to look forward to and help pull you out of this hard time. -
Hi ladies I put together this map just for fun, thought if might help some of you visualize the resort. The resort has a map on it's website Dreams Tulum Resorts & Spas: Resort Map which is cool because it's interactive, but not so good for visualizing the resort since it's not realistic looking. I took the following aerial photo from loco gringo Dreems Tulum Resort & Spa, Mexico: beach photo tour, aerial images and added labels for all the important stuff note: I just realized my smaller red square should include a bit more to the left as that is actually where the chapel and restaurants are (yellow buildings)

ROR Photographer's Policy Change
SunBride replied to starryeyedbride2b's topic in Jamaica Accommodations & Site
wow, what a great info package though! I wish my resort offered detailed information like that. I had no idea how much it would cost for extra hours, only how much it would cost for extra prints. This information is so detailed! Super helpful for making an informed decision. -
I had a slight preference for walking alone (have been away from home for 7 years and am a very independent person) but I didn't really care that much, so I gave my dad the option and he wanted to walk me so I let him. I agree that it might be best to just mention it in passing, not make a big deal about it. Then get your mom to check about his reaction. If he was hurt, it might be best to talk to him about it and let him do it.

yeah, I normally spend very little on make-up, but for the wedding I spent 200$ (about 75$ for expensive eyeshadow and liner, 125$ for drugstore everything else). At least you will get lots of use out of it, versus spending 50-70$ to have your make-up professionally done once.

Stadium Cups or Travel Mugs?
SunBride replied to Dez921714's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
I don't really see the purpose of the stadium cups, other than that they look cute that everyone has a matching up (but is it any better than the cup they give you at the resort) whereas the mugs have the obvious advantage of keeping the drinks cold, the sand out, and avoids spills (like when shifting on your lounge chair and you accidentally knock your glass over!) But yes mugs are expensive and glasses are cheap. I made my own mugs using the decorate-your-own-mugs from oriental trading company. The mugs are 6 for 12$ and I just printed out our names on a beach background (similar to my invitations) and then had them laminated (in case the glass leaked so that the design wouldn't be ruined). The only thing is those cheap mugs from OTC aren't insulated so only keep your drink slighly colder than a regular cup (but you still have the other benefits). -
Freaking out - Dreams
SunBride replied to k_8ie's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
even if there was a food poisoning incident, it is likely clearning up already (there could just have been problems with one meal, or maybe it's not even food poisoning but a flu that was passed on from guest to guest). If this isn't an ongoing problem (which it isn't, just recent incident) then the problem is unlikely to occur again many months from now. Also people on trip advisor are crazy I'm sure there are a bunch of great reviews saying the bad ones are crazy right? -
if you are willing to take the risk than go for it, but definitely show him like 100 or more "inpiration" photos. That's what I did with my photographer (even though she was a professional) and I'm so happy I did because she "copied" many of those shots and I love them. My other thought is 1000$ is still a lot to pay for somebody who has never done a wedding! It would be one thing if you were getting married at home and it was completely free but for 1000$ you could get a local photographer (not one of the best ones, but still) who has lots of experience shoot your wedding for a few hours.

Biodegradble Sunscreen?
SunBride replied to SheaS's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags

This is what I bought and brought with me to Xel-Ha, although they don't accept it, say it takes 8 years to degrade whereas the one they sell only takes like a fraction of that amount of time. So they gave me free samples in exchange for me handing in my bottle for the day, and they gave me a number to pick up my bottle at the end of teh day, but of course I forgot I should mention that I actually went to ask if the sunscreen was acceptable, I totally could have used it without anyone knowing, it's not like they have sunscreen guards watching everyone Oh yeah, and many other people posted on other forums that they had the same experience with Hawaian tropic at Xel-Ha.
