  1. Who watched last night? I don't know I feel about Serena turning into a Mean Girl. I wonder what Chuck is up to. Is he trying to get Blair back or get with Serena? The whole Duchess plot line was a little out there! I hope the show doesn't get too soap opera-y.
  2. The Day the Penis asked for a Raise I, the Penis, hereby request a raise in salary for the following reasons: I do physical labor. I work at great depths. I plunge headfirst into everything I do. I do not get weekends or public holidays off. I work in a damp environment. I work in a dark workplace that has poor ventilation. I work in high temperatures. My work exposes me to contagious diseases. Sincerely, P. Niss The Response Dear Penis: After assessing your request, and considering the arguments you have raised, the administration rejects your request for the following reasons: You do not work 8 hours straight. You fall asleep after brief work periods. You do not always follow the orders of the management team. You do not stay in your designated area and are often seen visiting other locations. You do not take initiative - you need to be pressured and stimulated in order to start working. You leave the workplace rather messy at the end of your shift. You don't always observe necessary safety regulations, such as wearing the correct protective clothing. You will retire well before you are 65. You are unable to work double shifts. You sometimes leave your designated work area before you have completed the assigned task. And if that were not all, you have been seen constantly entering and exiting the workplace carrying two suspicious-looking bags. Sincerely, V. Gina
  3. I love the marriage quotes! Thanks for the laugh!
  4. My FMIL threw me a shower. My in-laws live about 8 hours away, so she hosted for his side of the family. As it turned out, none of DH's extended family came, so this was the only wedding related thing they did for us. His mom doesn't have any girls, so she was really excited about planning. I wasn't really wanting a shower but couldn't let her down. It was just a few hours out of my day and I got some cool stuff, so I say go for it. You don't have to have another shower.
  5. I ended up using rose petals and they were fine. My original plan was to use streamer cups: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t17420-2 But, they were a little pricy and you can end up getting tangled in the ribbons.
  6. I bought mine from seller LinensBlvd that I found on e-bay. Service was great and they have a large selection. I think I paid about $1.25 each. The only thing is that their version of Aqua is actually more teal. I found that out the hard way, lol. I have 100 teal that I can sell or rent you. I also have some turquoise that would be available after Dec. Another BDW bride is using them right now. Our resort rented chair covers and sashes for $6 per chair. They didn't charge me to put on the ones I brought down.
  7. Alyssa - I've been away for a while and missed your pics admid the 6000+ posts I was trying to catch up on. You were absolutely STUNNING! I can't wait to see more photos and read the review.
  8. Yari I am SOOO excited for you! I remember how it feels posting this thread! You're in the home stretch!

People have been really angry that the power is out, there's no ice, not a chainsaw or generator to be found in the city, etc. Everyone is saying that all of the crews were working on RyderCup stuff instead of homes. The Ryder Cup was in a area that never lost power. It could have been SO much worse. We had minimal damage. Even though some neighbors had to replace a porch, at least they still have a home. The pictures I've seen of Galveston just break my heart! I was so worried about all of the BDW Texas girls. I'm glad you are ok!
  10. I missed you girls! Who would have thought that here in KY, we'd get hit by Ike? Sunday, we basically had a category 1 hurricane, just without the water. The strongest winds were recorded at 90mph. Trees are down everywhere! Over 5000 powerlines are down and 300+ poles were snapped. To top it off, a lot of the crews were down in Texas helping with relief efforts and had to come back. 400,000 were without power on Sunday. They've been great about getting stuff back up, but there are still like 150,000 homes without. School is cancelled for the rest of the week. It could take another 2 weeks to get everything back to normal. Monday I spent my birthday in the dark. DH tried to have flowers delivered, but I wasn't in the office because I was trying to move all of my food out of the walk-in fridge and freezer so I didn't lose it. Luckily, we have power at the new house and nothing was damaged. The old house is still dark, so we can't move or clean, and it got hit pretty hard with tree limbs that fell in the driveway and tore off the gutters. To top all of this off, I am slammed with Ryder Cup activities this week. I'm cooking at this house a company rented for the week to host clients. It doesn't have any electricity anywhere close. I have learned to cook by flash light and I did get a festive forehead light (like miners wear). I'm exhausted and I miss BDW! Thanks for letting me rant!
  11. I think if you go with that shirt, you need black pants. There is too much contrast with the white and the pin striping doesn't pick it up, IMHO.

I read everyone's comments and am curious about the cost of a DW and it's correlation with the number of guests that attend - I ask this because as brides we worry that we are asking too much of our friends and family to spend for a DW - but I wonder if it matters. I am curious to know the following (fill in the blanks): _________ $ for 7 nights occupancy (double) - cheapest room option possible at your resort (inc airfare and taxes) _________ # of invites sent _________ # of guests attending _________ Resort Name _________ # of stars of resort Interesting. I love to read stats and do research, I just can't do the math! ___$2100pp___ for 7 nights occupancy (double) - cheapest room option (inc airfare and taxes) ____100_____ # of invites sent ____30_____ # of guests attending _____Couples Swept Away____ Resort Name _____4-5 depending on list____ # of stars of resort
  13. Dammit Heather! I got all excited there for a minute! We don't get the Canadien version! I'm sad now
  14. I say go for it, for all of the reasons PP have stated. I love the wedding pictures that I have. I brought my photog with me and got a great deal because it was her first DW. Looking back, though, there are some shots that I really wanted that we didn't get. I can't go back to Jamaica and re-do my wedding! I think it would have helped tremendously to have an experienced DW photog who knows how to take advantage of the scenery and has an eye for what works best there.
  15. So, I watched Privelaged last night. I think I'm going to like it! It was really quick and witty. That was my #1 reason for loving the Gilmore Girls. I hope they can keep momentum going. It seems more like a mini-series or a movie. I mean she can't follow the girls to college. It's a good show, but it might be headded the way of Summerland...
  16. I'm a cry baby so it still gets me. I was in Micro Econ, my sophomore year of college. We tried to pull up a news website, but all of the servers were over loaded, so the professor started lecturing. All we knew was that a plane had hit the WTC, but we were all thinking it as a Cessna or something. I had a break so went over to the student center to watch tht tvs there. Lots of students were crying, but everything was just silent. A classmate was next to me and his dad had gone to NYC the day before for a meeting. We were watching when the second tower was hit and he basically watched his dad die on CNN. I went ahead and went to my next class because they weren't telling us anything. My philosophy professor cancelled class and told us to go home and be with loved ones. My mom had already driven to campus to get me. It was such a surreal day. Someone started a memorial in front of one of the main buildings that grew each day, candles, flowers, poems, sidewalk art. There were always people praying there. I don't think it was touched until campus closed for Thanksgiving. My birthday is the 15th and it's a big joke that something always happens on my b-day to make me cry. The weirdest thing for me was the quite skies. Campus and my house are in line with the airport and the UPS hub is here. I never noticed the sound until it was gone. I was flying to see my boyfriend at the end of the month, so that was scary. The National Guard was at the end of the security line with machine guns and full combat gear. I flew through Detroit, and there is a large Arabic population and a large number of them work at the airport. There was such a fear of Arabic people immediately thereafter so I found it ironic that these were the TSA agents keeping us sfe on the plane. My BF was also in the reserves so there was a lot of question as to what would happen with him, he eventually did go to Iraq for 2 years.
  17. I don't think it's an issue of looking good or bad. You need to consider availability, comfort, etc. I also think black gives the impression of formality. I wouldn't choose black for an afternoon wedding with a casual reception. But, it is your wedding, so you need to go with what make you and FI the happiest! Good Luck!
  18. I think different things for differnet people is fine. I really don't think any of my guests compared notes as to what they got, especially the guys. Most people do one bag per room for couples and an individual bag for singles, even if they are in the same room. It is an item for individuals, like a t-shirt or koozie, you put 2 in the bag for the couples. We probabably have 100 OOT threads. Seach OOT in titles and you'll get a ton of results/info.
  19. We could do it like the siggy themes maybe. Announce the topic and give everyone a week to change, so it wasn't like Friday when we all did it within hours of each other. I agree it's not worth it to slow down the forum. Wow, ladies, we are in serious need of help to go this far for silly internet entertainment! LOL
