  1. Hi Toni! The forum is quite addictive! There is quite a bit of info on the resorts you listed. Try doing a search or you can browse the Jamaica section and wedding reviews. Good luck and happy planning!
  2. Sarah did DIY candles that were really pretty. http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t3593
  3. The only disadvantage to the vow-renewal is that sometimes you don't get as big of a package and there may still be a fee. When I got married it was $200 for the wedding fees (minister, license, etc) and $150 for the renewal. With the renewal package we would have had to pay for the cocktail hour (I think) and we wouldn't get the spa credit. SO, be sure you check with your resort first. Without your SS card, you can still go ahead and change your name on bills, CCs, etc. It's just your driver's license and governmental things that don't accept the temporary certificate.
  4. I did bright blues (Tiffany and Turquoise) with pink accents. I thought they looked good together, throughout the day. Earlier, they really stand out against the sand and the green vegetation, and at night they were in contrast with the pink/orange sky.
  5. The great thing about Couples is that there is as much or little to do as you want. We chose the lazy route, LOL. We only did the free activites/watersports with the exception of the $10 shopping tour one afternoon. The Aura Lounge is also lots of fun and we met a lovely English couple there. Somewhere in my blog or planning thread I made a CSA packet to give to all of the guests that lists the paid tours and the pricing. I'm guessing it won't change too much.
  6. I agree that you should only pick up the tab for those that cruise with you (unless there is some special circumstance). I stayed on land, but over half of my guests didn't stay for the whole week as was planned, they could only do a long weekend (kids, work, cost, etc) Also, as someone who gets sea sick, I would probably have asked you privately if I could fly in for the wedding, knowing I would be on my own for transportation. I do not think you are being a Bridezilla at all! But, I will play devil's advocate. Your wedding day is very special and should be what is the most meaningful to you and your FI. I know how easy it is to get caught up in the details. I was about to disown every family member and friend we had by the time the wedding date actually rolled around! Keep in mind that no matter how well things are planned out, there will be some hiccups. The important thing is that you are marrying the person you love and that friends and family will be there to celebrate with you. Everything will work out how it is supposed to.

  8. I did this for my AHR in July and people are still talking about how much fun it was! Here is how mine worked: The strips come with 6 pictures in your choice of black or white. (you chose each sheet so not all for the night, KWIM?) The center has a personalized greeting/logo/message/graphic, etc The rental was for 4 hours with unlimited pictures. My company brought all sorts of props - hats, boas, crazy glasses, etc. I brought a message board so people could write notes. (It gets interesting when everyone is drunk) The company also provides a little "scrapbook" table with different pens, stickers, etc and asked each guest to cut out a photo and write us a message. This was our guestbook. The regular rental is $1500 I think for the night. I'll try to remember to take pictures tonight of my album.
  9. I don't know of any bride that didn't have to go through this! Did you book as a group? Will you be out any money if these guests don't attend, lose deposits or anything?
  10. If you go on a weekend, you will certainly need an appointment. It shouldn't be an issue if you go on a Tuesday morning or something. You might want to make one at DB just in case. There are a few salons that require apps and I found that a lot were closed on Monday.
  11. Yep, it's legal. If it makes you feel better, you can file a copy with your state office. Once you go to the SS office to change your name, the new name and the marriage status is linked to your SS number.
  12. Is she regular sized or plus sized? My mom wore pants and light jacket and shell. JC Penny on line has lots of options. Now will be the time to start looking since the summer clothes are coming out. There is a thread for mother's attire somewhere on here, if you do a search.
  13. Welcome! Negril is beautiful! There are lots of great places to choose from. Good luck and happy planning!

  15. I like pink, orange or red. Maybe even a combination of the three. You can wrap the handles in blue ribbon to tie in the turquoise color. That's what I did. I have the link to the pics in my siggy.
  16. That definitely looks like a wedding dress to me! I can't imagine that being a BM dress. The Aqua is beautiful and (form personal experience) looks great with the water in the background. I say go for it! What color BM dresses will you choose?
  17. Happy wedding day Kelly! I hope it turns out even better than you planned! I can't wait for pics and details!
  18. I haven't read the rest of the posts, so sorry if I repeat. I'm really sorry you are going through this. In general I don't have very many really super close friends. It was hard when it came time to choose my BP and I had lots of issues with it. It's ok to not have a BP. I say if you really do want one, then choose the person you feel closest to. It sounds like your friends from NC were there for you when you needed them. If they can make it to the wedding, why not ask? I'll be in MI in about a month visiting my family (Canton/Dearborn/Westland area). You'd have to drive, but I'll go dress shopping with you! Hang in there! BDW can get you through anything!
  19. I wrapped mine in tissue and bubble wrap. I put all of the boutonnieres in a small box but sill wrapped them individually. I carried them on in a small suitcase and put them in the overhead bin. I packed extra florist tape and some wire and glue in in my checked bag in case I needed to make any repairs. I did have to fluff them a little but I think they did really well

Congrats and welcome, Becky! This site will be a valuable resource for planning. Have fum searching the forum!
  22. You should do Beyonce's All the Single Ladies, since it's your last day as one! Of course you don't want to get that stuck in your head while you are walking down the aisle! LOL
  23. If you have issues with photobucket, you can also just post a link to a picture.
  24. That is awesome! Downloading the book saves me ca$h, my #1 resolution! Thanks for sharing!
  25. I spend about $200 I guess. I bought the dresses, shoes, and accessories. I also gave them very nice beach bags with bridemaids tank tops and some nicer OOT bag contents. I did pay $500 toward each person's trip to help defray the cost of going but I don't really count that as a "gift" in the traditional sense.
