I had a great wedding at Couples Swept Away in Negril but have heard that all Couples properties are nice. Search the Jamaica subforum and Wedding Reviews for more info! Good Luck & Happy Planning!
  4. I can't wait to see more Amanda! You looked beautiful and the ceremony set-up does too!
  5. You could always do parasols. Those are usually a cheaper alternative to flowers and a great way to incorporate some additional color. Are you having a wedding party?
  6. I was going to say what Jamy did. I was going to join right out of high school but couldn't because of the degree thing. It is a 2 year commitment and you do have to leave family behind. I think you get a 2 week vacation each year. Most of the jobs entail teaching (English, technology, business) or manual labor - building schools, laying waterlines, farming, etc. They do usually require a college degree. You can request an assignment, but do not get to pass. You may be placed alone in a community, so there isn't a big group around you. You make the wage of the country where you work. When yo get out you get $5K (maybe more now) to get re-integrated into American life, travel, move, etc. I'm thinking there is an international habitat for humanity program but you would be responsible for getting to the country. They feed and house you once you are there. Here are some good sites: Major FAQ: IFRE Globe Aware - Adventures in Service Volunteer Work: Volunteer Abroad Programs - International Volunteering Opportunities at GoAbroad.com You can also check with the Red Cross and a local church.
  7. Abbie - you aren't a bad friend. I still haven't mailed Christmas gifts to MOH. I think her kids will out grow the stuff by the time it ever gets to her! I wondered if you finished them. I read each book in about a day. I still haven't seen the movie. I figure I'll watch online or wait for DVD. I keep hearing that if you like the books, you'll like the movie, otherwise it is a little cheesy. As much as I love the series and did sit at work and read Midnight Sun one day, I wasn't the biggest fan. I love Edward's perspective but it was a little to angst ridden. A finished copy should be much better. I do wonder though how far teh book will go. It pretty much parallels Twilight, but so much happens in the other 3 books, it's almost like we would need each of the others from Edward's POV.
  8. Great shots! The shoes are super cute and I really like the pop of color. More please!
  9. OMG! Amy, your pictures are amazing! You were a stunning bride! I cried all the way through the slideshow! Congrats!
  10. I LOVE the first 2! Those are very classy! I have the pleated babydoll in black - it is pretty. I think the last one might be my favorite. When is your shoot? Maybe you could hint to a BM or friend that you would like a lingerie shower because you don't have anything sexy to wear. I might be a fun (budget-friendly) way of getting some new stuff.
  11. Ok, Jan is tough because it was slow and the DB errors have limited participation. B2B - Amy (Amaryllis) MRS - Betsy - cause it's good to see her back!
  12. There are lots of threads about Grand Lido. Use the search button to find them. CSA can put 2 twin beds into a room when you arrive. The way I expalilned it to my guests was you can have 2 separate beds in the older Atrium section or share a large king size in the new section where you will have a minibar and TV. I had 8 singles and only 2 guys who were not related opted for sharing the bed. With them, it didn't really matter because one night one stayed on the couch outside and the night before the wedding BM stayed with DH in our room while I stayed with my BMs. There were 3 of us in the bed and we had plenty of space. Be sure to check with Debbie about the singles policy at CSA. She can make exceptions to policies, especially if you have a large group. If you want any other CSA info, I'd be happy to help.
  13. DH saw mee looking at the site and he was like that's confusing. I told him if I walked into the bedroom dressed as Mrs. Pacman He would probably laugh at me and he replied, "yeah, you're probably right". I really like the idea of a painted mask, kind Eyes Wide Shut- esq. Now, I just have to drop 40 pounds in 4 months to get my photos taken for our anniversary!
  14. I'm a fan of Trashy Lingerie Trashy.com - Lingerie - panties - hosiery - swimsuit models - sexy lingerie - Welcome to Trashy Lingerie ! They have an array of costumes and a great clearance selection. They also have some really expensive fancy costumes if you want some of those. The do have a big selection of big tops for girls with big chests. Sometimes it can be hard to find pretties in D+ sizes - trust me, I know.
  15. Jenny those are great! I don't know how you could pick a favorite. You looked beautiful!
  16. I would suggest searching for reviews of the particular resorts you are considering or browsing the wedding review and Riveria Maya sections. Happy Planning!
  17. If you go to the Maggie Soterro website, there is a page of real brides in real dresses. Maybe you can find a mermaid style and see what you think. I only tried on 1 mermaid dress and i looked really hippy. But, if there is one thing I learned during dress shopping, it's that the same dress will look completely different on 2 different people. Good luck!
  18. http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t19955 Here is the link to mine. I printed them on white paper with a tiffany metallic cardstock stapled to each side. Very low budget. I stamped the envelopes with the leftover ink I had from my STDs and included luggage tags.
  19. I was at Office Depot yesterday and in the bins up at the front, they had some really cute matching luggage tags and passport covers for $2-3 each. THey are faux crocodile in metallic blue, bright red and black patent leather. I'll try and find a pic online. Too bad they didn't have these last year, because I would totally have gone for the blue ones!
  20. I would stick with the blue/teal for fabrics and the pinks/oranges for flowers. This is the most natural to me, since there aren't any aqua flowers out there. Maybe to blue chair sashes and colored flower petals. Try searching the forum for different or threads about colors. That has been a popular color combo so I'm sure you can find lots of inspiration. You can also search the Knot and Brides.com galleries by color.

  22. Those are great, Tammy! You have such a sweet girl!
  23. I think it's beautiful. My dress had a pretty long train. I wore it down for the ceremony then bustled it. I kept it bustled for our AHR. You can also have it cut off if you are worried it is too long. I personally think wedding dresses need trains, LOL When will you ever get a chance to wear one otherwise?
  24. From what I found, jurisdiction usually is an issue of residence or citizenship. So, for example, even though we were married in JA we would divorce here. But, if my husband was Jamaican we would have to divorce there. Or, if we bought a house on the beach in Jamaica and moved there, we would have to be divorced there. Interesting question. I never really thought about it before. I am looking into a post-nuptial agreement because I own my own business and if our relationship were to disolve, I wouldn't want to have to sell to divide assets, that type of thing.
