  1. I completely understand! i had a total meltdown yesterday with our guests. At this point you only have to worry about the close friends and family you want there and forget the rest. People can't really surprise you at a DW. Just keep in contact with your TA and do the best you can. Set a deadline with yourself for OOT bags, favors, etc. and stick to it. If people can't follow directions (screw 'em) and proceed with the info you have. There is too much else goin on for you babysit! (I'm not bitter...) LOL
  2. JamieLynn - Trust me on this one, if you need to tak time off or drop another class, do! I was really sick for about 4 semesters in a row and kept thinking I could do it. I was feeling terrible, my grades weren't that great - normally A or B down to C. I get really depressed which made it all even worse. I ended up failing that 5th semester and having to sit out. After all of the turmoil, I stayed out of school. I only have 5 classes left to get my BA and will return the semester after the wedding, but only part time. If I had it to do over again, I would have just sat out one more semester or not tried to go full steam ahead when my body wouldn't let me. Know that someone else knows what you're going through and I'll send happy thoughts and wishes for a speedy recovery! One one my semesters was when I took Women's Health Issues. How weird?!? And my instructor was the one who wrote the book. Talk about being screwed on the test...
  3. I cannot stand them! His parents are ok, but the rest of them SUCK!!!!! Apparently, none of them are coming to the wedding. And of course, they are turning it all around on me. It's my fault because I wanted a destination wedding. It's too expensive. It's too close to his brother's wedding, blah, blah, blah. First of all flying from his hometown is the cheapest package we have to offer! My family is paying over $100 more, and yet they can still make it! When we told everyone to budget $2000 and they said, save me a seat, we wouldn't miss it, I was stupid enought to take them at their work and make the f-ing reservation! Now, it is only $1400 and will send each and everyone of them into bankruptcy if they come. His brother's FI decided she wanted to get married Memorial Day weekend, even though we were engaged 4 months before them, and had said we would get married in June. But because my wedding is the second one, I'm intruding on their plans! But, the worst part is, they didn't want to tell us no. So they didn't. Afriad it would hurt our feelings. Um, you can't really surprise anyone at a DW. We kind of know who will be there. So instead, we paid the deposits, etc for our non-existant guests--to the tune of about $4000. Really glad they didn't want to hurt our feelings. They are fine with hurting our wallet instead. I know and I knew going into this not everyone would come. It just sucks that they said yes, then backed out. Our wedding is 4 months away and we have to have everything paid by May 1! I feel the most upset that FI is really disappointed and hurt. That's what makes me want to walk up to all of them and smack them! And I kind of yelled at him and told him his family sucked, so now I feel even worse! I've been crying all day! I feel totally defeated and just done with the wedding. I don't care anymore, I just want it to be over! I feel like I have worked so hard and bent over backwards for them for NOTHING! (I'm waiting for, "well we couldn't buy you a gift because your wedding was so close to FBIL.") Even BDW couldn't cheer me up! Hopefully I'll feel better now that it is off my chest! Sorry I wrote a novel!
  4. Yeah! Another Couples Bride! We will be getting married at Swept Away. Let me know if there is any way I can help you! Congratulations and Happy Planning!
  5. We did Bed Bath & Beyond for small items/kitchen stuff. They have the best return policy and are always sending coupons. Dilliards for our table service because I liked the patterns and the pricing was very reasonable. We will probably register at Macys for bedding because they seem to have the largest selection. Both of the department stores offer a completion discount, I think 15% off everything that wasn't purchased so you can get everything. We considered registering at Lowes or Home Depot so we can fix our house up, but 4 sounded a little greedy!

  8. oops, here is the color wheel. It's kind of fun to play with! Wedding Reception Ideas and more | Brides.com
  9. Whatever color you want! If you are getting married in the evening, reds, yellows, and bright orange would be pretty--very sunset-ish. But I like blue and orange together. Wedding dresses and planning advice | Brides.com has a cool color wheel thingy right now that shows sample color combos. I also browsed through Wedding Planning Checklist - Planning a Wedding - Unique Wedding Ideas photo galleries for ideas. There you can search by color, flowers, reception idea, etc.
  10. Leslie, We're birthday twins! Sept 15th, right? Mike would be: I sang to a phone because I'm a ninja.

  14. OK, so as of right now we have 6 guests coming who were not invited by us. We chose to book all of the travel with a group contract. The spaces weren't filling up as quickly as we hoped so we opened the trip up to friends and family of our friends and family to sell seats. Our goal was to not get stuck having to pay for the spots that weren't purchased. My question is what to do with these people? I've never met them, but they are close to my aunt and uncle. Do I invite them to the wedding? Do I make them a Welcome Bag? We're all going to be on the same flights, in the same section of the resort, etc. so I don't want anyone to feel left out, but I also don't want them to feel any obligation towards us. If I make them Welcome Bags, that will be about another $100, plus the cost of our private reception, cake, etc. The little things will add up! But then again, they are saving us about $1000 per person by filling a spot... Yes, I know I over analyze!
  15. I love the idea of blush and peach with the soft yellows and greens! It sounds really elegant. I picture a garden-type setting with lots of twinkly lights and candles! Try searching the knot photo galleries for some ideas. You can search by color, flowers, reception decor, etc. Slideshows
  16. Welcome! I'm so happy you got your date! I'm in my cousin's wedding on that date! I think it's probably the most popular one this year in the wedding business, last year it was 7-7-7!
  17. LI is not that difficult to work with. In my experience, most people can still enjoy dairy in small quantities. Maybe not fettucini alfredo once a week, but... The Lactaid tablets really do help. I'm a chef so if you would like me to suggest some recipes or revamp some of your favorites I would be more than happy to! Also, next time you go to the doctor, if changing you diet doesn't help, have your gall bladder checked. I was sick for about 3.5 years before the dr. figured out I had a diseased gall bladder and needed it removed. I tried every drug and diet imagineable! Since it was taken out I've had no more problems!
  18. Welcome! We love pictures around here!
  19. Let's see how this works! I'm still trying to figure out all this stuff and feel extremely pleased with myself when something actually works!

    New to Site

Welcome to the forum! Congratulations on your engagements and happy planning!
  21. I thought I would bump this for the newbies (and myself)! something new: dress, veil, etc. something borrowed: We have a traveling brooch that gets pinned to the slip. It came about when a friend was getting married and freaked out when she realized that she didn't have anything old/borrowed/blue. We went and scoured the neighborhood yard sales that morning, hair in rollers, until we found this rhinestone pin. It was so much fun! something blue: I want to have an E embroidered on the lining of my dress. My grandmother's name started with an E so it will be extra special. something old: my grandmother's hankerchief from her wedding
