  1. No problem, You would use the resort's plain linens then put a colored square over the top. From the guests view, siting down, all they will see is the color, not the white/ivory underneath. Here's a really plain example:
  2. Yep, I'm a caterer/chef/event planner. Both my parents are chefs so I've been in the business my entire life! The regular weight is fine, especially when you have to figure shipping. The only time I would suggest the heavy weight are if you will be using wooden tables or putting a pastel color on a dark table top. If price or weight will be a big factor, have you considered using a square 85" as a colored topper? Any time you use rounds the price will nearly double. It has to do with ironing and folding... I'll see if I can find some pics!
  3. BBJ Linen Alyssa, I have worked with the above company many times and they have great quality and selection. I will warn you, they are the most expensive I've ever come across. Plan $25 per linen, plus shipping. WeddingLinens.com This is another comapny with a large selection, though I have never personally worked with them. You might want to look on e-bay and see if you can buy any in the right color wholesale. I can't remember the name of the seller I used before! I would suggest contacting the local rental company/hotel and see if you can sell them the linens when you are finished, especially if you will be renting other items. If you will have to bring them back with you, see if there is a company at home you can sell them to. For the difference in price, I would suggest a 108" round instead of the 120". A lot of times tables can be uneven or the legs are a weird height. More often than not, I've seen linens that were too big that puddle on the floor. The 108s still give a floor length look and you never have to worry about them getting stuck on a chair leg.
  4. Welcome and Happy Planning!
  5. It is a beautiful dress. The girl at my bridal store said taffeta was a good choice because it is lighter than satin, so it won't be as hot. And, the sand should fall/brush right off of it. If you love it, go for it!
  6. I didn't really get "THE ONE" feeling. I think part of the problem is that I'm a bigger girl, especially in bridal sizes, so nothing really fit. There was a lot of pinning and holding my arms straight down to keep it on. Even now I sometimes question if I bought the right one, or if I just picked one so it would be here in time for the wedding. My mom and my BM's cried so I figured they had a better imagination than I! God, I sound like I hate the dress! I really do like it! I think I just felt rushed and it was about double what I had budgeted. I say go for the one that makes you cry and the one you feel best in. I also considered the confortable factor and the practicality. For example I didn't want anything with lots of beading on the bodice because it irritated my skin. Also, a cathedral train would probably not have been best for the sand.
  7. That is great! I wish we could have flow first class! I'm hoping we will get an upgrade at the airport. I'll put on my best poouty face and puppy dog eyes! LOL
  8. What a great topic! I have a Political Science degree and worked for the state government through college. I have not yet decided for whom I will cast my ballot. I worked so hard on the 2000 and 2004 campaigns that I kind of got burned out and jaded, so I'm not as up to date as I like to be before voting. I will also have to take a look at the running mate before selecting a candidate. I would like to have seen a more middle of the road candidate, one who could attempt to reunite the country. My biggest fear with Clinton and Obama is that any mistakes or negative situation will be blamed on race or gender. I really don't know if the country is ready for either of them. Someone mentioned the groups each candidate was leading in, but the reality is that the only demographic that consistanly votes are white, republican males. This is why so many white, republican males get elected. I'm really interested to see where this will go. Does anyone think Clinton and Obama would run on the same ticket?
  9. That is really high! At Couples, the private dinners start at $35pp! I don't know where you are in your planning, but could you possibly stay at a cheaper or AI resort for the wedding then move to RP for your honeymoon?
  10. Welcome! I'm a Jamaica Bride too! Our tickers are getting very close to the big day! Let the countdown begin!
  11. Welcome! I would say a majority of the brides on here were/will be married in Mexico. I'm sure you'll find lots of info!

    Hi Everyone

Welcome Colleen! You'll figure out how to work everything in no time. It will quite possibly become an addiction!
  13. Welcome to the forum! I know you'll find lots of helpful information on here!
  14. Welcome! Congratulations on your engagement. The time will fly by!
  15. Good for you! Keep your goal in mand and you can do it! (I have my bikini hanging in my bathroom!) I'll send happy skinny thoughts your way!
  16. I'm having a similar issue. Because I am a caterer and event planner, I have a lot of business contacts that need to be formally informed of our wedding, but I'm not inviting them to our ceremony. We'll send announcements after the wedding that we were married. There is a great post somewhere about wording--use the advance search or browse through the invite sub-forum. Unless you are hosting an At Home Reception, I would not send out an announcement for the wedding, just wait until you have pictures and send the photo announcement.

  18. I'm trying to remember where I saw the picture, but someone had them suck in the sand along the aisle so guests could grab them as they were seated.
  19. They look great! I experienced some of the same frustrations when I made mine! That's for posting your comments! I'm sure the others will find them helpful!
  20. I'm sorry you are disappointed. But, now you can relax and have the wedding you really want instead of setteling for things just beacuse of convienence or because they fit your time frame. Everything happens for a reason, I believe, so this is proabably for the best! As far as your FI goes, you need to give him a calendar of things to do with a deadline. I've got Mike doing "baby-step" tasks about once a week. THe other day he put stamps on all of the envelopes. They never really get it, so you just have to delegate. It gives him a chance to practice his "yes, dear" skills!
  21. I love me some fake eyelashes! I wear them for every special occasion. I use MAC and the tinted adhesive, I think LashPro? If you're like me and cry at every wedding, be sure the adhesive, eyeliner, and mascara are all waterproof. I know the singles are more natural looking, but have never been able to apply them correctly myself. I'm wearing them in the picture below, but the do look a little thick because of the editing-blurry image thing. Sorry to all of the photographers--I don't know the technical term!
  22. Thanks for all of the support and words of encouragement, Ladies! I think that was just my first (and hopefully) last break-down. One thing I'm sure we have all learned is that this is just part of a DW. You really learn about people's character! To the Newbies, don't worry! Go on and plan the wedding of your dreams and do what will mean the most to you and FI. If and when some family member or friend acts like a butt-head, BDW is here for support! Thanks again! Erin
  23. How cute! I love the message in the bottle idea! Gald all of your hard work paid off!
