Everything looks perfect! I love your dress! It is beautiful. Have a great time.

Thanks again for the info... I will probably call like you suggested just to make sure! Luckily his school visa shouldn't expire until May '09 so we have some time to figure it out. We just would like to have everything in order before that happens.

Thank you! I figured with the number of people who become citizens... it couldn't be too hard and really didn't want to spend money on a lawyer. We went to talk to a foreign student counselor at school and she immediately pointed us in that direction. (I think she just didn't want to really have to deal with us).
And just to clarify... we do that petition AFTER we get married. Do you know if there is any problems/difficulties getting married at the courthouse with him being a non-citizen?

Dear Therapy Professors,
Just because it takes 15 of you to teach this course and you only have 2 lecture periods each... doesn't mean you should ALL assign us extra hour long breeze presentations to watch outside of class each week. You are the specialists... we are not... so we really don't need to know every little nit-picky detail.
It is not our fault you can't teach us what we need to know in your alloted time and it is defintely not our problem that the course director feels the need to have so many of you. Please remember that you are not are only professor and this is not our only class. (and that we actually do have lives out of class).
Also...while we are on the topic of time: class gets done at 12:05... not at 12:15 and defintitely not at 12:30. Please stop ruining our lunch hour!

Not sure how to title this... or how to most efficiently search the topic. (I tried a few terms but couldn't find what I was looking for). With so many US and Canadian brides on here I'm assuming someone is in the a similar situation and can help...
I am a US citizen and my fiance is a Canadian citizen who is here on a student visa. We plan on staying in the states after graduation (May 09) and having him become a US citizen. However, we are not 100% sure on how to proceed. We are thinking about hiring a lawyer to help, but wondering it is necessary (we would like to save the money if possible).
Our understanding is that after we get married he will become a permanent resident... and then can begin the naturalization/citizenship process which will take a few years. Is that correct?
We were also planning on doing a court house wedding before our actual ceremony in Jamaica to avoid any other complications. (Even though we will probably do it no matter what... does anyone know if just being married in Jamaica would be a problem with his citizenship process?)
Lastly, my mom and I were talking and she asked if it would be better for him and his tuition costs if we did the court house ceremony now as opposed to right before we go to Jamaica. (Right now he is paying basically 'out of state' tution which is about doulbe the 'in state' rate and since he is not a citizen is not able to apply for the normal student loans). As we start a rotation process this summer... we will have 3 more full term semesters yet to pay, so it could be significant chunk of money. Does anyone know if we are correct in our thinking that: if we were to get married and he were to become a permanent resident, he would be able to pay in-state tution?
Sorry I know that may be a bit confusing... but as you can tell we are a bit confused as well. Any thoughts/experiences would be great!
In summary we are looking for advice on: immigration lawyers, US citizenship process, court-house vs Jamaica for citizenship process
Thanks in advance!

So cute! Love the idea... too bad they are kinda pricey.
-
So cute! Love the bling.

So cute! They look amazing... and I love the idea of the RSVP card. Will it work as a postcard they send back or are you sending an envelope?
-
So beautiful! I also love the sparkles! And it fits you so well!
-
Haha... I'm addicted to them right now as well! I usually watch one before bed most nights as my fiance works on schoolwork that I have given up on. He initially gave me a hard time about watching them... then it just a little laugh and eye roll ... and now he can generally tell whether I (we) have watched that one or not!
I especially like when the Bridezilla ones are on so I can point out that I am not as crazy as some people.... and the Fabulous Weddings so I can point out that we aren't spending THAT much.

Very good idea! Would they be able to tell us what rooms everyone is in before all the guests arrive and check in?

Congrats! Glad to hear that everything went well.
Would love to see your pics and read a mini-review if you are willing to share with us!

Very cute idea! (like the girls above... I may just end up stealing it). If you are printing them yourself, I agree it would be fun to mix them up a bit. If you are ordering them from vistaprint or something and just want one... my choice would be either 3 or 5. I love the pic on #3 but I can't tell if the font color will be difficult to read.
-
I would defintely encourage you to send them. I know many of my guests needed the almost year in advance to get that amount of time off work and figure out other details (babysitters, etc).
-
My vote is number 2 as well.... it is really cute!
-
Wow amazing! Everything looked so perfect... I loved the starfish details on your chairs. The sunset pictures were beautiful! Congrats.
