  1. Hey ladies, for those of you who got married at the EDR's presidential gazebo did you wear shoes with your dress? I don't think there is a walkway, is there? The sand doesn't look too deep from the pictures. I was wondering if some wedge flip flops would work (I'm concerned about being too short), or if you think barefoot is the only way to go? I'm finally going dress shopping and don't know how to deal with the subject of shoes.
  2. I was going to walk myself as well. My dad can't be there, and even if he was there I felt that I was a grown woman who did not need someone to "give me away." By the time we get married, my FI and I will have been together for 6 years and living together for 5. We were paying for our own wedding. We talked about him meeting me halfway down the aisle and walking to the alter together. It would be beautiful and symbolic. We also talked about walking down the aisle together, but my FI would miss that "ahhh" moment of seeing me walk down the aisle. My sister, however, just got married and did the same thing herself. She said that walk can be a lonely walk and wish she would have asked my mom. I have since asked my mom. Do not worry about what your family says. It is your wedding, your life, and I still think it would be empowering to walk yourself. I mean you and your FI probably found each other on your own, decided to get married on your own, so I think it is very symbolic to make that walk alone together as well.
  3. Mine is at 5:00 on the beach. I was adament that it be as late as possible after experiencing a friend's 2:00 DW ceremony on the beach. Although it was a beautiful ceremony and her wedding was one of the reasons I also decided to have a DW, there were certain things about that 2:00 spot that she hated. 1. It was soooo hot (think hot sand and bare feet) 2. There were tons of "impromptu" guests standing around watching, including banana hammock guy and his topless wife (the pics are priceless though), 3. We had a few hours between the ceremony and the dinner. She said had she done it again, she would have done it later because everyone starts to head back around 5:00 to get ready for dinner and such so the beaches are less crowded.
  4. Yea, another EDR bride!!!! Welcome!
  5. I love jumping in the air shots for some reason. I want a big group shot like that. Or at least one with the bridal party. I also love picture of the groom and gm walking on the beach all in sunglasses. I know my mom was sort of upset there were hardly any pictures of her at my sister's wedding. If you have a sensitive mom, you may want to have the photographer take a few nice ones of her.
  6. I read somewhere that a lot of bars close at midnight in PDC. However, I did just look on Senior Frogs website and they stay open until 3:00 a.m. I couldn't find exact directions but think PDC is less than 30 minutes away and closer than Cancun. Maybe consider a little bar hopping excursion if you want to do it as a group. We did one few years ago when we stayed in PDC and went to like three or four different bars in the area and had a blast.
  7. Gravity by John Mayer has a sexy sound, so does the Scientist by Coldplay, Turn Me On by Norah Jones, Witness by Sarah McLachlan, maybe By Your Side by Sade? I also like Up and Away by DMB.
  8. I eat turkey burger a lot, and I enjoy it best when I try not to make it taste like beef. I tend to enjoy them better when seasoning and dressing them as I would poultry. I have found a couple of food network recipes that I make regularly that are great. Rachael Ray's Harvest Turkey Burgers Recipe | Recipezaar (These are great without a bun dipped in lowfat ranch if you are trying to watch your carbs) Recipes : Stuffed Zucchini and Red Bell Peppers : Food Network (I usually do not do the zucchini because my FI doesn't like them, and usually do a mix of yellow, orange, and red peppers. I also use the Classico Sundried Tomato sauce instead of a marinara.)
  9. Don't worry about the odd numbers. However, if you do ask your friend I would maybe say something like you kept having this feeling that something was missing and you realized that it was her! My sister was asked to be a BM many months after the bridal party was set and she said she was always very aware of that and felt a little strange. She of course was still very honored to be included! BTW, I totally understand about drinking and inviting everyone and their brother, literally to our DW! I have hurt some feelings I think because I didn't invite some people I told "You totally have to be there - we would have a blast!" in a haze of dirty martinis.

  12. I too have had my freak outs with my EDR choice. One of my major concerns was that my single friends would be bored there. However, I know them and my FI's family, and wherever they are, that is where the party is! These people always seem to be having more fun than anyone else, so I am relying on them to provide my nightly entertainment! Also, I agree with Jennifer that the wedding reviews are always glowing!!! I am obsessed with reading trip advisor reviews as well and still in my opinion the good reviews out number the bad ones. I like how EDR is close to the Cancun airport. That was one of the reasons I decided against Dreams Tulum. Also, I don't think the beaches are that great right now in Playa del Carmen because of Hurricane Dean. We decided to get married in Mexico because we just wanted a simple and casual affair and have the resort take care of everything. We really just want to show up and never have to deal with speaking with vendors. Had I wanted more specifics, I understand how difficult EDR would make it for you. Have you done a site visit? We are unable to do one, but perhaps if you go there for a couple of days that may help you fall in the love with the place or help you make your decision to switch.
  13. I was wondering the same thing? Thank goodness my little sister is my MOH, so I won't feel so bad having her run around putting place cards out if that is the case!
  14. Have you ever seen the movie In Her Shoes? The wedding scene at the end has the bridesmaids holding these wooden poles with gauzy fabric flying in the breeze in the ground. I always thought that looked really beautiful. I tried to find a picture of it but no luck. If you do decide to go with flowers, a single flower can always be nice.
  15. For those of you who did/or plan to do the free dinner, did you do place cards? What sort of set up did they do for you? Also, is there something wrong with the search feature? I just get a blank screen everytime I try to search?
  16. I would go with something tan. Maybe something like these? Adio Men's Drifter Shoe - Free Shipping
  17. My BMs all wear rings like that, and know they would like that as well. I would say regardless if it is their style or not they will wear it at the wedding and it will be a special token of your wedding that will make them smile when they open their jewelry boxes!

  19. I really like it and you look great in it. Yea, for having to take it in!!!!
  20. The first one is fantastic, but I agree with the others it is so hard to tell unless we see you in it!
  21. 1) What resort are you getting married at? El Dorado Royal 2) What made you decide those? The travel agent at destinationweddings.com suggested it after I gave her everything I was looking for in a resort (beach type, location, AI, price, etc.) 3) When is your wedding? July 24, 08 4) Did you have a hard time choosing too? Yes, we did research for months. Because I won't be able to do a site visit, I have second thoughts almost every day because of the unknown. I went to a friends DW two years ago in Playa del Carmen and her advice to me is to just relax and let go of control when you get there. She was trying to make everything perfect and micro manage the whole thing and realized she wasn't having as much fun as the rest of us. Once she let happen whatever was going to happen (ie let things happen on Mexico time), she had a blast. Good luck!
  22. I have had my eye on that one as well - I'm glad you like it because it is perfect for Mexico!
  23. I'm using destinationweddings.com and our TA said that she sends a guest list to the hotel so they know exactly who is in party. She said they do a good job grouping everyone.
  24. You two are adorable. I smiled so much during the slideshow that I can't even imagine how much you guests' cheeks hurt after the whole thing - lol!
