  2. Thought it would be fun to resurrect (sp?) this thread! One thing about me you don't know about me is: I played the violin from 3rd-10th grade when I quit because it wasn't cool anymore. Wish I hadn't quit because I've totally and completely forgotten how to play. It's NOT like riding a bike!
  3. Just noticed Drea hasn't made Erik take the avatar off yet.. heehee
  4. Oh just finished it! Hurry up, discussion date!
  5. Hi Sarah! You know what would be great to know, something easy to do in a few hours time, that is 'touristy', but not involving a long drive or anything too physical. We'll have a couple of older parents with us and a baby, but we want to do something fun one day (we'll only be there 3 or 4 nights).

  7. OK Jessica, your my new unofficial resource
  8. Thanks Jessica! I am interested in info on an evening luau, the cool kind with the food, dancers, fire shows, all the good stuff. We want to do this as our mini-reception/celebration the night of the ceremony, but not quite sure how to go about it. The hotel we will probably be at does not offer this. Anything on Luau's in the book?

  11. Yea! So much of our wedding planning has gone to our Big Fake Wedding at home, and not a lot of time or thought has been put into our Small Real Wedding in HI. The reason for this is since I work for an airline, we get to fly from SEA to LIH (Lihue, HI) for free, and we get employee rates at hotels, so I haven't really planned much for this legal wedding part, since we (and actually all 12 people that will be at this legal wedding) have to fly standby, and book the hotel much closer to the day we are going to actually travel (very unlike "real" people haha). Doug and I have been trying to find a beach near where our hotel will be that is not a long drive, but somewhere beautiful and memorable. We stumbled upon Hanalei Bay when googling HI weddings, and decided it would be perfect! An hours drive from the LIH airport, and we loved how the name means "making lei's" since we will be having a lei ceremony to present our moms with lei's! I was going to try and post some pics that made us cement our decision, but the stupid work computer isn't loving photobucket right now, so I'll do it later Also thanks to Christine who posted a thread about Hanalei, so when I wanted to see if anyone on BDW had heard of it, I could!
  12. Oh wow I only have a few pages left and I totally had forgotten how it ended. I can't wait to discuss this one!
  13. Yeah, last night I remembered to tell Doug that our meetup is gonna be rescheduled so I'm not going out this Thur, he was like "Why not? What happened?" I said, Christa has a meeting after work, and he goes "That sucks!" They crack me up. Anyways, can't wait to watch the last few videos, but I'm at work again, sad!
  14. Hi, thanks Jess! That's great to know! We are planning on arriving one evening and getting married the next day, but it would be nice to ge that out of the way the first night so we don't have to deal with it later.
  15. Oh totally do it, esp. if it's free. My 16 loop underbustle was NOT free, but it would have been impossible to enjoy wearing the dress without it! The pic you posted makes me think the model is up on a step or whatever, there's no way her legs are that long! Also see how long it is in front? She would be tripping all over it. But my point is that the train part of your dress will probably be that long in back, even if they hem up the front and sides for you. So again, esp. if it's free, have it done! And like others have said, you don't HAVE to use it, but you'll have the option!
  16. yea! congrats, that is the biggest part, and you can cross it off!
  17. OK I've only gotten time to watch the first 2 clips, a few days ago, and Doug was watching over my shoulder. First off, I LOVE how excited you looked during the ceremony! I loved how giddy you were, and the looks and faces you were making at Brett were priceless. Watching Doug watch these was funny too, because he made some comment like "So these two live near us?" and I was like, uh yeah, I told you that before! And then he says something like "So your "friends" (with actual finger quotes!) are real!". Ha! I think he was thinking everyone on here is like, virtual or something. I've noticed since we watched Kate's videos that he is more interested in what everyone on here has to say, and has even asked about some names I've mentioned. Too funny. Men!
  18. Thanks gals! It is soooo freakin heavy, with all those layers pinned up. I couldn't believe it when she said it would take 16 loops. They're $7 each! Oh well, I love the dress and I can't wait to go back in April and make sure she did it right
  19. Bought my dress at David's Bridal a couple of months ago, and finally took it in for alterations today! I didn't think I needed too much done, since the top half of my dress fits perfect due to the corset back. I knew the hemming would be the weird part, with all the whip-cream pick-ups. The total cost of this alteration was just shy of what we paid for the dress (ouch!) but the total was $236, plus they actually charge you freaking tax! So $257.10. The part that took the cost over the top was that apparently the only way to bustle a pick-up covered skirt is to create a million new pick-ups out of the train part. I ended up with a 16-loop underbustle, which is being color-coded, thank you very much! (Learned to ask that on BDW!) Here are some pics! Here is me just LOVING how tight the lady laced me up (NOT!) Here is a reminder of what the dress looked like when I bought it (sorry, blurry!) a mile too long, and you can't see the train, it's hiding. This is a pic of the lady pinning it up, no actual fabric will be cut at all! Wow! And I like this pic cause on the right side you can see the front of the dress reflected in the mirror. I'm standing barefoot, and it is just above the floor now. You can kind of see how many more pick-up-y the back is now, of course all the good pics are on my MOM's camera!
  20. Amy it's lovely! You are going to look sooo beautiful! You better take pics when it arrives!
  21. Yari! I adore these! I gotta bookmark the site! Love 'em! Doesn't hurt that we share the same colors
  22. Wow Drea! And I thought I was dedicated! I'm trying to savor it, here and there. Usually I just roll thru it like you did, but I want to make sure I remember parts when we discuss it! I thought if I finished too quick I could always just slam thru it like that since we still have a week or so left.
