Well, I have the right to CLOSE this thread. PLEASE take heed of advice from longtime members who were just trying to be helpful in the best interest of the forum. if you read something that rubs you the wrong way, remember that its often difficult to convey emotion or tone of voice when you are typing/reading instead of speaking. if you choose to participate further on bdw please do so in the correct and existing threads. if you truly have a brand new question or concern, feel free to create a new thread if the subject has nothing to do with any currently existing thread. if you have a problem with anything ive posted here, feel free to PM me.

So then my advice would be, don't go to those non-tourist areas. No brainer. Also, don't listen to ANY advice until a few months out. None of us have crystal balls, and telling you our experiences TODAY has zero impact on what will be happening an entire year from now. I completely understand you want to make sure you book a fantastic hotel in a safe area and not have problems, but since you have to book so far out to get a date, and all your ducks in a row, there really is no advice other than being able to predict the future would help. Even if you found out 6 months, 4 weeks, or 2 days before that all the sudden it's considered "unsafe", you would already be booked and sunk for the whole deal anyways. Sorry again if that's harsh but why worry about something you might not even need to fix, and if you do there is no way to prevent it anyways?

I was just there 10 days, got home 2 weeks ago. I've been to PV about 8-9 times (and other "resort" towns in mexico over 15 times) and never once felt unsafe. We ride the public buses, wander thru the streets/shops of downtown and the romantic zone with our kids at night... Etc. Honestly I can't believe anyone would question the safety of PV. As with anywhere else, including right here in the US, it's all about choices, being aware, and planning ahead. If you would vacation in New York, Las Vegas, etc, you would be smart, so be smart anywhere else too, kwim? Don't mean to be harsh, it's just how I feel.

welcome to BDW! congrats  first of all, here is something to consider. im not positive if all resorts are the same, but from what i understand i dont think you can put a deposit down quite so early in the first place. most places ive read about are about a year out from the date, and you've got over a year and a half. have you decided on a specific place? might want to check with them to be sure.  either way, my biggest advice is this: do what makes YOUR heart happy. sometimes that means going ahead with the wedding of YOUR dreams. for other brides, it ultimately means making their family happy. looking back, so many of us did what our family wanted and wished we would have went thru with what WE really wanted to do instead (aka: ME!)  there is always the option of having a huge AHR (at home reception).  you did mention you told your parents they dont need to worry about contributing financially to the DW, so what about going ahead with the Big Fat Greek (Orthodox) Wedding at home, then also doing the DW for family and friends that WILL attend it. thats basically what i did, the more weddings, the merrier!
