  1. If your looking for a bit more moderate property my third suggestion would be the Barcelo Maya Beach Resort! I beleive that there is info on that property from a few brides that are getting married there! I'd love to be able to help you narrow the resort choices down in Riviera Maya or Jamaica! Some things to take into consideration when choosing a destination/resort are: How long will your guests be staying? If most will only stay for a few days then I recommend finding a location that is closer to the airport. What atmosphere will most of your guests enjoy? Are they more laid back, adventurous, partiers, want childcare available, access to shopping, gambling, will they want activities available all the time at the resort or access to outside activities? Do you plan on taking a honeymoon after the wedding at a different resort in the same area or will just stay on at the DW resort? What is important to you & your fiancee as far as amenities ? Is it important to be one of a few brides getting married that day or don't you mind if there are a bunch-the more the merrier!? And of course the reutation of the WC at the resorts! I'd love to work with you on this! If you'd like my assistance please feel to PM me! Good luck and have fun planning!I hope that I've been able to help out some! Warmest Regards- TA Jennifer
  2. If you are looking for something a bit more tropical in nature the Iberostar Quetzal is great! Not as fancy as Paraiso Lindo and a few less amenrties but a good AI resort! Iberostar Quetzal/Tucan – 3-3.5 Star Resort 45 minute drive from Airport Ambience – This resort caters to a family crowd and had plenty of activities to keep everyone busy. The décor is Mayan in nature. The majority of guests are American. Size - Mid size property, actually a complex of 2 resorts– the Tucan buildings are on the left hand side ( when looking at from the ocean) and the Quetzal is on the right hand side both sides have 350 rooms. Rooms – standard rooms but comfortable and very clean. Includes a stocked mini bar replenished daily- stocked with soda & water. In room safe, a/c, ceiling fan, bath has shower only! Private balcony or terrace. Service – Excellent, employees are upbeat, friendly and helpful. Grounds – Beautiful, extremely well kept. This resort is set into 28 acres of jungle with exotic birds, monkeys and iguanas! Pools – The pool is nicely kept, has a shallow entry in one end. There is also an adults only pool with a swim up bar. Beach – One of the nicest beaches in Riviera Maya! A large beach with white, soft sand ! Water is Caribbean blue and warm. There are abundant chairs on the beach and 4 bars serving the beach & pool area. Very calm beach great for water sports and swimming. Food & Beverage – Average to very, very good. There are 5 restaurants on property -Steakhouse; Tropical; Mexican; Italian; Japanese. The a la carte restaurants can be booked when you first arrive, 3 visits per stay. Also keep in mind that there is a dress code for men , pants and closed toe shoes. Does not need to be fancy. The buffet is large with plenty of choices for breakfast, lunch & dinner. Room service available from 11am- 11pm. 24 hour food & beverages. Domestic and premium brands available – for the premium you will need to ask as they generally keep that under the counter. Entertainment – Nightly shows. Disco’s on site. Entertainment staff has activities planned during the day from active competitions, pool games to arts & crafts. Other Considerations - The non motorized water sports are included – sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, & snorkeling. Other activities abound such as, tennis, air guns, archery, volleyball, bicycle tours. There is also a beach party one night a week. ** Includes complimentary shuttle to Playa De Carmen ** Complimentary day pass to Iberostar Paraiso Del Mar & Iberostar cozumel ( must arrange your own transportation- please check with front desk as this can change) The Bad – Due to a few European clientele there may be some topless sunbathing on the beach. Book the specialty restaurants when you first arrive ( if you’d like to change the reservations later you can) as it can sometimes be difficult to get an earlier reservation. Beds are firm ( they are in almost all Mexico hotels!) TA Jennifer
  3. Take a peek at the Iberostars- I like the Iberostar Paraiso Lindo for weddings as there is just so much fore everyone to do plus there is a childrens water area and a lazy river! It's only about 30-45 minutes from the airport- here's a write up I did for another of my brides: Iberostar Paradasio Lindo – Between Playa de Carmen & Puerto Morelos 4.5 Star Resort 30 minute – 45 minute drive from Airport Ambience – This resort caters to a family crowd and had plenty of activities to keep everyone busy. The décor is Mayan in nature with marbled floors in lobby. Size - Very Large Property, actually a complex of 4 resorts– the Lindo section has 446 rooms. Has trams to bring people to different sections. Nice walkways with beautiful gardens. Rooms – Large & comfortable. Includes a stocked mini bar replenished daily- stocked with beer, soda & water. In room safe is the self programmable kind. Service – Excellent, employees are upbeat, friendly and helpful. Grounds – Beautiful, extremely well kept. There are multiple fountains, statues and the gardens are very well manicured and mature. Pools – This is where the Lindo shines – there are 5 pools- two lake sized pools with a swim up bar, a pool for sports, lazy river, wave pool & also children’s pool area. Drinks service provided Beach – A nice beach – not fantastic & not bad either. The sand is soft underfoot. Water is Caribbean blue and warm. There are abundant chairs on the beach and a beach snack shack. In some sections of the water are large boulders that were uncovered after the hurricanes. Food & Beverage – Average to very, very good. There are 10 a la carte restaurants on property -Gourmet; Seafood; Steakhouse; Cajun; French; Mexican; Italian; Japanese. The a la carte restaurants can be booked when you first arrive, no limit to how many times you can visit. Also have a dress code for men , pants and closed toe shoes. Does not need to be fancy.) There is also a tapas bar, ice cream bar & taco bar. There are several buffet choices, they are large with plenty of choices for breakfast , lunch & dinner. 24 hour room service. 24 hour food & beverages. Premium liquor served in lobby bar – all others domestic. Entertainment – Nightly band that plays in the plaza & nightly shows at the theatre. Disco’s on site- one adult , one teens. Entertainment staff has activities planned during the day from active competitions, pool games to arts & crafts. Honeymoon Amenities - Bottle of Domestic Wine, Fruit Basket & Two Tee shirts Other Considerations - The non motorized water sports are included – sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, & snorkeling. Other activities abound such as, tennis, ping pong, billiards, air guns, archery, volleyball **This resort has it’s own water filtration system- not available in the bathrooms, still need to use bottled water for brushing teeth. **Wednesday’s there is a beach party, chef’s cook Paella over an open fire and serve sangria! **Spa facilities are wonderful. It costs $35.00 to use the day facilities, treatments are extra. ** Includes complimentary shuttle to Playa De Carmen The Bad – There are no elevators and the buildings are 3 stories tall. Porters will carry your luggage to your room. TA Jennifer
  4. Did you check out Beaches Negril ? It may be just what you are looking for and I am pretty sure that they would allow a reggae beach party! The beach is huge and they have a large thatched roof gazebo at one end of the beach for receptions. The property is large enough that it would be easy enough for divorcee's not to bump into each other. Beaches Negril also has a waterpark to keep little ones occupied! I spoke at length with the wedding coordinator last week when I was in Negril and she is very enthusiastic and you can tell she just loves what she does! She showed me photo's of the weddings that she's done recently and they were great- I was really impressed with the photographers work also- more so than with what I saw at Riu Tropical. I need to email her today as she was going to send me photo's of the locations all set up. If you'd like my assistance feel free to pm me! Or if you have any questions just post them here! TA Jennifer
  5. To continue - The rooms even the lowest category (garden) were spacious, the beds kings and very comfortable. The linens were crisp and white-it was a nice contrast with the dark island woods and the white linens and white floor to ceiling curtains that covered the wall length windows and double balcony doors. The large windows behind our bed had louverd slats that we opened every morning and the maid closed for us with turn down service at night .It had a old world plantation feel to it! Our room had a television & minibar that was stocked daily. The older section does not have tv's nor minibars. I also toured an atrium room- these are literally tucked into the gardens- the older section atrium rooms are the most private and have a hammock on the balcony but the bathrooms are showing their age a bit (but was spotlessly clean). Beachfront rooms are steps from the beach! This also means that they are not as private- if you are loking for privacy and a beachfront ask for the second or third floor! Watersports- incredible! My rotten husband ( and of course I say this in the most loving way- hee hee) woke me at 7:30am every single morning so that he could sign up for diving ( you had to be at the dive hut at 8am to sign up for the next mornings & afternoon dive) he really enjoyed the dives and went 4 out of the 7 days. We also took the hobie cat out twice, went waterskiing, snorkeling, kyaked & took the catameran down the beach where he cliff jumped! I even tried the beginning dive class- went to do the open water and chickened out at about 10 feet- oh well maybe next time! All of this was included! If you like tennis, working out on vacation, basketball, raquetball and/ or an circuit training Couples Swept Away offers all ofhis at their sports facility across the street. They also have a lap pool and the spa over there. Food was excellent but expect a long dining experience. The atmosphere is laid back and Couples has purposely set it up where dining is drawn out. Not a big deal but I think you need to expect it or you could get frustrated. I'm sure if you told your waiter that you'd like it quicker they'd comply. I watched a lot of weddings and meet with the wedding coordinator, Tamika- she's a doll and loves what she does! The weddings we saw were wonderful and everyone had a great time, I spoke to a lot of the brides and their families at the beach bar ! I snapped a few pics but they're not the best as I didn't want to be intrusive. Definately do a late morning or early evening beach wedding as the afternoon was extremely hot ! If anyone has any questions feel free to ask away! I also visited Sandals Negril, Beaches Negril, Riu Tropical, Grand Lido Negril & Point Village. I'll try to figure out how to post photo's! TA Jennifer
  6. Great news Heidi! That travel perk would clinche it for me but of course you know I'm biase in that department! TA Jennifer
  7. Hello Gang! I just wanted to let everyone know that I just got back on Monday from Couples Swept Away, Negril, Jamaica! Hopefully I'll get time to write a full report but I'll touch on the basics here in case anyone is interested! It was breathtaking- the grounds were incredibly lush, you felt like you were in a rainforest almost. When we first arrived everything was so green but I noticed as the week went on we saw more plants flowering so it was always nice to keep an eye out for blooming flowers as we walked to the beach each morning! Couples Swept Away is located on one of the nicest stretches of 7 mile beach! Very long and very deep. I loved that the cushions they provide for the chairs doubled as a float in the water. Speaking of the water it was crystal clear and warm ( I have a strong aversion to chilly water - so I was thrilled that the ocean was warm!). Lots of room to spread out on the beach and planty of beach chairs no matter what time of day you headed down. The flag service was awesome- I didn't even get a chance to get my flag into the sand before a beach waiter came over to bring me a drink! There were lots of palms to keep you shaded if you wanted plus a large stretch to stay in the sun also. The sand was white and soft and amazingly clean- they rake the entire beach each morning to keep it pristine! Another thing I loved was in the mornings they bring around melon kabobs to snack on ( I'm not a big breakfast person but I love fruit!) and towards the afternoon they brought around rum snow cones!! I had to try one and it was really good- I'm not a big rum drinker but these were good and refreshing! Our room was located in the new section of the resort- garden verandah suite. I had heard that these rooms hear quite a bit of road traffic and that is correct. I'd recommend doing an atrium room- these are middle of the property and closer to the beach. The rooms while not luxurious (as in marble bathrooms ect) were still very nice! The balcony was the largest I've seen at any resort thus far and a great place to have a continental breakfast or enjoy a few drinks at night before dinner. While not completely private they still felt romantic! Ta Jennifer
  8. Welcome to the forum! You'll love Half Moon! If there is anything that I can assist with please feel free to Pm me! Jamaica is one of my favorite islands! TA Jennifer
  9. Congratulations! If you'd like any assistance please feel free to pm me! If you do it between December 1-10 ~I won't be able to get back to you till after that as I will be in Jamaica at Couples Swept Away Negril! I'm trying to get in an inspection of the RIU Negril -if I can & you'd like I'll send you some photo's! TA Jennifer

    hey girls

Congratulations & welcome to the forum ! If you need any info on Jamaica or St. Lucia feel free to give me a shout! TA Jennifer
  11. Thank you! I love the island and the updates that Sandals did. Eventually I'll write an article about the other incredible resorts on the island like Anse Chastenet, the new suites on Jade mountian are breathtaking, or Ladera with it's chic artwork and open air suites. TA Jennifer
  12. St. Lucia-aahhhh! The beautiful lush island of St. Lucia. Magnificent rain forests where wild orchids, giant ferns, and birds of paradise flourish amongst cascading waterfalls. Beaches of white, golden and brown sands with towering palms entice sun lovers. Crystal clear warm water beckons snorkelers & divers to enjoy the National Reef preserve teaming with the bounty of the Caribbean ocean. Not enough to entice you? How about if we add in beautiful harbors and world class sailing, awe inspiring twin mountain peaks of the Pitons, duty free shopping, golf courses, zip-lining through the rainforest, horseback riding and the world's only drive-in volcanic crater complete with mineral baths to soothe the soul? Still not enough? Ok, I’ll throw in incredibly warm locals who speak English, average temperatures ranging from mid 70’s to mid 80’s, some great Caribbean food, and a Friday night street party at Gros Islet where the BBQ grills are rolled out and live Caribbean music energizes the tropical trade winds. Or travel to the small village of Anse La Raye for the Friday night Seafood Feast where once a month a live band provides the entertainment. Located in the southern Caribbean nestled between Martinique (an easy day trip away) and St. Vincent, St. Lucia is frequently referred to as the Hawaii of the Caribbean. Exotic yet familiar, St Lucia offers warm hospitality, unmatched beauty and activities to satisfy even the most restless among us! On my all too short visit to St. Lucia this fall I was able to visit 3 of Sandals Luxury All Inclusive resorts. Each offered such a unique experience it was hard to imagine that all three properties were owned and managed by the same company. The cohesive element that ties the three Sandals properties together was the focus on service, friendly smiles, beautiful facilities, incredible spa’s and great eats! All were in abundance at all three resorts! Sandal resorts has been working hard throughout the Caribbean updating properties, renovating rooms (flat screen televisions, new soft goods & toning down the color schemes, adding a luxury touch to even the lowest categories in each of the properties) and public spaces. Sandals even went as far as adding these fantastic private bungalows they call Rondavals and a British pub- but more about that later. After extensively touring each of the properties which would I choose to stay at? A great question but one I would find very hard to answer! I thoroughly enjoyed each of the properties but for completely different reasons. I’ll provide my impressions of the resorts and what I liked best about each! Sandals Halcyon - Just stepping onto the resort one can feel themselves instantly relaxing. This is the smallest of the three sandals properties in St. Lucia and the resort has a boutique feel to it and exudes old Caribbean charm. The buildings are only two stories tall and are covered with lush flowering foliage. The entire grounds were at one time a botanical garden and it shows. There are flowering shrubs, well manicured lawns and mature trees everywhere you turn! You literally feel like you have arrived at the Garden of Eden it is so beautiful. The hammocks for two scattered and tucked away throughout the property are inviting. Personally, this is the resort I would choose for utter relaxation thrown in with a bit of games by the pool and a touch of nightlife. If I was getting married I would also chose this resort for the sheer beauty having the photo’s taken in the gardens! Favorite room categories- I would stay in one of the Honeymoon Beachfront Concierge rooms. The rooms are one story beachfront units, although some are partially blocked by lush foliage but you can hear the waves and are literally steps from the beach. Request a unit near the water sports center as the other Honeymoon Beachfront Suites are located near the activity pool and during the day the activities can get a little loud. Sandals Halcyon Facts- 169 rooms 4 restaurants/ 7 bars 2 pools- one quiet and the other active, both with a swim up bar Beach is not very wide but extremely long and very quiet and remote Waterskiing & wakeboarding are included Most rooms have been renovated but at this time (fall 2007) not all ocean view rooms & honeymoon beachfront concierge suites have been completed. Resort is great for those who like intimate, boutique style hotels while enjoying the comforts of putting away their wallets. Sandals Grande- The newest addition to the Sandals line up in St. Lucia. This is the resort for beach and water lovers! This resort sits on a peninsula between the beautiful bay and the ocean and offers water views from all of its rooms. Boasting a stunning white sand beach that is both long and wide that invites lovers to find their own private stretch of sand. The bay here is calm and the water crystal clear. This resort offers a comprehensive collection of complimentary water sport activities ranging from tubing, water trikes, kayaks, snorkeling, water skiing, knee boarding, wake boarding, windsurfing and the pier where the dive boats will whisk you away to explore the equally lush underwater environment! The other side of the resort offers views of the charming island of Martinique across the Atlantic. Not to be outdone, the landscape is very beautiful and lush with meandering pathways, lush palms and flower bushes located throughout the manicured grounds. Ocean not your cup of tea- try one of the 5 pools on the property. In the center of the property is a fantastic Romanesque pool with inset 30-person spa tub, features a 350-degree swim-up bar; an activities pool pairs with a sunset-view 16-person spa tub, and a heart-shape lovers pool features a deck with double, cushioned, teak lounge chairs beneath fold-up shades and a 10-person spa tub. The Sandals Grande St. Lucian is a contemporary luxury resort. From the moment you step into the luxurious open air lobby to check into the resort. Instead of queuing up in long lines guest are directed to make themselves comfortable at one of the sitting areas in the expansive lobby. All of the paperwork is completed while you sip champagne. The goal at Sandals Grande is to have every guest checked in within 12 minutes. Butler category guests are whisked away to their suites for check in. Each room category from entry level on is fairly large, has modern bath facilities and all of the rooms have recently been outfitted with plasma screen TV’s making the good sized rooms feel even bigger. A very unique feature to this tropical paradise is the Olde London Pub, an English Pub on the property. Not just any replica of an English pub- this is the real deal! Mr. Stewart purchased and dismantled an actual Pub in England, brought it to St. Lucia and reassembled it piece by piece at Sandals Grande St. Lucia! Serving thick slices of Prime Rib or Fish & Chips you can indulge yourself till 2am. That’s not the only unique restaurant feature to this resort- Josephine’s- the French Creperie located poolside is fantastic for a mid afternoon or after dinner snack. I was treated to a mouth watering chocolate crepe- fantastic! Or stop in for a thick creamy milkshake. Favorite room Categories - Sandals Grande St. Lucian takes Romance to a new level with its unique room categories. The Swim up suites are located in a quiet portion of the property and number only 25- so grab yours before they sell out! Just imagine stepping out of bed, into your swim suit and taking an early morning swim with your lover and returning just in time for room service to deliver breakfast for your enjoyment on your private patio. My absolute favorite room category in all of the Caribbean- the Oceanfront Rondaval with Private Plunge pool! These individual bungalows are brand new, private and the ultimate in romance! Definitely worth the splurge, this room is located just steps from the beach. The private plunge pool with the trickling waterfall, whirlpool and hammock (imagine laying on the hammock entwined, enjoying a glass of wine, watching the stars, listening to the ocean roll against the shoreline and whispering of your future together…) are there to ensure your time spent outdoors with your loved one will create memories that will last forever. Add to that the ultra sexy outdoor grotto shower- how can a couple go wrong? The interior of the Rondaval isn’t shabby either – a large living area with a sofa, chair, coffee table and plasma TV, king size mahogany bed, an enormous private bathroom with a Roman tub, separate showers & two sinks! Now add a butler to assist with your every whim…..ahhhh paradise! Sandals Grande St. Lucian Facts-300 rooms – 14 categories 6 restaurants- Gordon’s is reserved exclusively for Butler suite guests; Toscanini’s is the recipient of the 5 Star Diamond Award / 6 bars 5 pools- including the scuba pool/4 whirlpools Beach very wide with over 400’ of beachfront State of the Art- Air Conditioned Fitness room Resort is great for active couples that enjoy modern facilities, lots of choices in daily activities & amenities. And of course the water & beach lovers will find themselves very content. Next installment will include the third Sandals property on St. Lucia- Sandals Regency La Toc Golf Resort & Spa plus information on St. Lucia’s marriage requirements, Sandals WeddingMoons and Wedding groups! 13. Unreasonable yes- but it is standard for the industry and not a rule that your TA has implemented. Typically with group rates -to secure the rates & space the deposit is due within 10 days of receiving the contract. Depending on the property, time of year, and length of stay the deposit amounts can vary. Many times the brides & grooms will pay for this deposit upfront and that amount will be deducted from their travel. There are advantages/disadvantages to booking group rates. The quick deposit time is definately one of the disadvantages . Hope that helped! TA Jennifer
  14. Hello Future Mrs. Lunsford! I tried to pm you to see if I answer any of your questions but it wouldn't let me! I really liked Sandals Dunnes River Villagio when I did a site inspection there in May. The general manager of the property, Mr. Grant is very hands on and absolutely loves "his" resort! TA Jennifer
  15. Awwww...shucks, thanks gals! You ladies are the ones that make it easy though! It's been great working with Catherine & Heidi and the others I've been assisting! TA Jennifer

  17. I was at both resorts - ROR and Sandals Dunnes River Villagio in May- check out my photo's at The photo's are under the Jamaica Ocho Rios tab. I apologize that there are so many in there- I need to go go in and seperate them into the seperate resorts. The resorts have two completely different vibes! Sandals Dunnes River is intimate, laid back, a touch of Europe meets Caribbean and a bit more upscale with a romantic flair. Riu Ocho Rios is lively, large, upbeat with something for everyone! Almost every room has an ocean view (there are a few that are blocked). Everything here is huge- the beach, the pools, the restaurants. I wouldn't completely rule out Sandals Dunnes River- just be sure that you'll be content with a more intimate resort experience. If not then I would recommend Sandals Grande Ocho Rios for your honeymoon. Hope that helped! TA Jennifer

  19. JaBride- I've seen retainers all over the board (from $25 - $350 and everything in between) for destination weddings but I'd have to say that I have never seen one at $1000.00 without any prices or feedback. Most TA's will provide a basic consultation without the retainer. This usually would include basic room pricing amongst other things. I too would be leary about this particular TA unless they have come highly recommended from several reputable sources. If you'd like my assistance feel free to PM me! Warmest Regards- TA Jennifer
  20. Hey Dedra! It really depends on what amenities you want for your room to include, where you want it to be located (near nightlife, the pools, tucked away in a lush garden section or an incredible view of the ocean. Do you want to sit on your balcony & hear the waves or do you want to just see them? Do you want to have a semi private pool only shared with 4-6 other couples or are you & hubby to be happier surrounding yourselves with lots of new friends?) & of course what your budget is! TA Jennifer

  22. Hey BillysBride- End of April, early May will be your best prices on airfare & hotel. I've booked alot of families for spring break ( Mid February - mid April ) to Riviera Maya & Tulum- they want Mexico but not the craziness of Cancun so before then even the resorts are fairly pricey. Hope that helps the planning! TA Jennifer

  24. I completely understand about the budget md_ocr! It's crazy how quickly everything can add up. I think that you'll be fine as long as you have clear expectations going into the resort! Plus who knows- you might even be pleasantly suprised!! If there is anything else that I can help with just let me know! TA Jennifer
  25. I would also let the TA know that you are now ready to finalize and book ( as long as you really are!). But definately send another email, she may have not received the first one or is out of the office. Better yet- give her a call! TA Jennifer
