  1. Yes, Nancy os gone and Tiffany is replacing her.. I spoke to faith about this today and they had seen enough complaints about Nancy that they felt they needed to get someone else who was more attuned to wjhat the brides need from a WC. They really do listen to you guys!
  2. Generally I am contacted by the WC within 48 hours of reserving the wedding date & time for my client if we also either made the deposit on the room (conceirge level or higher stay, for 6 nights or more) or placed the $200 deposit on the wedding date & time. At that time I usually get both a phone call and an email from the WC. I've never had to wait till all of the official paperwork was entered to speak to the WC.
  3. EDR beach is swimmable in some spots- the "whales" break the waves so it's not too rough! All of those places are amazing and all of them are completely different in terms of atmosphere and ambiance, plus beach! Adventura- has man made "lagoons" to swim up. Outside of the lagoon it's very rough. excellent food, in room jacuzzi & hammocks on the patios/balconies. Resort is park like in apperance-lots of lawn. rooms are quite nice but clean cut. Mostly white. Royal Playa del Carmen-stunning beach and great swimming, very active area as people walk it all day. Great beach beds! Rooms are welcoming and ornate.jacuzzi in room and hammocks on the patio & balcony. grounds are park like in apperance. Valentin- amazing beach- very private. Very lush, pathways have lots of foliage and flowers. facilities and rooms are modern but with natural woods. warm & inviting, Great food, has a natural grandeur to the public areas-very spacious and open. HTH!
  4. You may have to suggest to the late bookers ( I know it doesn't seem that late!) to stay at Riu negril. it's just down the street! April is prime spring break and even with this lousy economy I'm seeing quite a few resorts and cruiselines with limited availability!
  5. Thanks you guys! It was definately an experience and after all is said and done I'm glad I did it, no matter how it turned out. Now I know that A) I really won't pass out and die like I always thought and unfortunately no matter how hard you wish for a big hole to open up and swallow you- it won't happen! It was also really nice that my husband was there for it, he was so sweet and supportive it really helped! And the look of pride on his face really made all the terror worth it! Kaiko- ummmm I caught most of what was said as I had to be polite, especially because Mr Stewart was right there and being front and center well it just would have been rude to not be paying attention. It's the retention part that was a little difficult! as I felt like this
  6. Ericka- would you mind if I forwarded your post to Faith? That may be the best way to let them know that it's a really big concern of all of the brides on the forum and where you guys are coming from! I've also requesterd on behalf of my brides the ability to prebook the locations (instead of so close in to the wedding!) I'll also find out exactly what the differences are between Beach waiters and beach butlers- if it's just in the name or if it's actually in duties performed! Please don't think that you can't vent on this forum- I was just trying to explain some of the issues and let you know that they are not just issues that Lomas/ Karisma have but they are pretty standard industry wide, albiet to varying degrees! So for this weeks questions I have: Time line of when to expect to finalize details? How early can locations for receptions be reserved? Differences between Beach waiters and beach butlers? How soon to expect Beach waiters and beach butlers at Azul Sensatori? Who exactly works in Miami and works on Azul Sensatori weddings? Is there any plans in place to hire additional Miami based WC's For the Azul brands? Can Canadian brides book through a U.S. based TA and still get the free wedding package? With the prices going up for 2009 weddings- those that secured their wedding dates and were quoted on items in 2008 will pay the 2008 prices- is this correct? Anything else that you guys would like added?
  7. What a busy couple of weeks! First I was in Mexico doing the site visits (21 hotels in 3 days whew!) then the day after I got back in and my husband drove me 3 hrs to the Sandal "Grand Unvieling" dinner in Chicago! I took my laptop so I could work and I recieved a message from my Sandals rep making sure I was still coming. I replied that we were almost there and she emailed back "Great-I assigned you to Butches table". I laughed and laughed- yeah right like I would be sitting at the table with Butch Stewart- owner and creator of Sandals, Beaches and Royal Plantation resorts! We get there and my rep runs up and says hurry up you need to get seated- they're getting ready to start. as she's bringing me to my seat I realize we are front and center and it starts to dawn on me.....ummmm I really might be sitting at the table with Butch Stewart. Now I am getting nervous- the whole bit- like how do you make small talk with Butch Stewart? Will I end up with spinach in my teeth? Knocking wine into his lap? At this point I'm thinking- this may not be such a great idea that my DSM had- I'm going to string her up if I survive this! ( I am really really shy!!) Then my Sandals rep starts talking about we just need you to talk afew minutes about groups- I do one of those cartoon double takes- say WHAT!!! Yeah she says- just stand up and speak for about two minutes about groups- you'll be great. When they bring you the mic just sit in your seat and say a couple of things, no problem! A little background- I DO NOT SPEAK IN PUBLIC! As a kid I wouldn't even raise my hand in school to ask to use the bathroom ( I know TMI !) At any rate I am now in a full blown panic- sweaty palms, rolling stomache the works. They serve this amazing dinner and I am writing notes- can't eat a bite! Yup butch stewart is all of two seats away from me, the director of St. Lucia tourism is next to me, Mr. Chastenet and I am suppose to make this little speech in front of at least 800 travel agents. My turn comes, they hand me the mic and the MC makes me stand up! I thought I was going to die. I shook, my voice shook, I couldn't read my notes as they were on the table and I am now standing! I made it through, used something from Mr. Chastenets speech that got both his and Mr. Stewarts attention and afterward they both said that I did a good job! It was a sympathy "good job" but I'll take it! Adam Stewart also came up and congratulated me! So there you have it - my dinner with Butch stewart and my first public speaking engagement!
  8. Dear Colleague We are working hard to set up the Sandals Foundation which will channel the charitable efforts that we at Sandals and Beaches Resorts have been committed to since day one. We realise how tough things are right now, but right on our doorsteps, there are families who have nothing to look forward to this holiday season – children who don’t even have family to care. Can you imagine the despair of a parent who can barely afford to put food on the table, let alone struggle to find the money for toys? Or the heartache of a child trying to understand why school mates have gifts and they don’t? As a company we don’t have the heart to sit by knowing that we have the opportunity to bring a smile to their faces. We’re inviting you to join us if you can, to help bring holiday joy to the Caribbean by donating toys and books to the Sandals Foundation Christmas Charity Drive. Your gifts will be distributed in time for the holidays to schools, community centres, orphanages, and children’s homes, in Jamaica, St Lucia, Antigua, the Bahamas and the Turks & Caicos Islands. Please send your gifts to arrive no later than Monday 17th November, clearly labelled to CHRISTMAS CHARITY DRIVE C/o Hospitality Purveyors Inc. 5000 SW 75th Avenue Suite 111 Miami, Florida 33155 So that the gifts can be received in the Caribbean, it is important that you indicate the value of the items you are sending by enclosing an itemized receipt or invoice. You can also join our quest to do what is right for the Caribbean’s communities, education or environment by sending a cheque or money order made payable to ‘Sandals Foundation Limited’ at the address below. Thank you so much for doing what you can to make a difference – and helping to make the holidays what it should be for children in our communities. Regards Adam Stewart Chief Executive Officer Sandals Resorts International PS Please drop us a line to [email protected] once you’ve shipped your gifts so we can let you know how you helped to make a difference.
  9. Dear Travel Partner, As we approach the upcoming winter season, we at the Jamaica Tourist Board want to share with you some of the exciting new developments taking place in our tourism sector. With this in mind and with this first e-news format, we will start a series of e-letters designed to update you on the latest happenings on our island. Some of the more thrilling news comes from our accommodation sector which has been increasing room inventory at a phenomenal rate, providing a range of conveniences that will facilitate the many lifestyles and budgets of the most discerning traveler, yet maintaining the awesome beauty of our island destination. While much of these developments are in the area of new construction, there are also properties that have undergone extensive refurbishment and redecoration enhancing the attractiveness of these facilities. IBEROSTAR Just opened is the Iberostar Rose Hall Suites, with 319 units, joining its sister property, Iberostar Rose Hall Beach. A third and final phase will be Iberostar Grand Hotel Rose Hall which will open its doors for guests by the end of this year, and will showcase 296 rooms. Iberostar Grand will be an adults-only, five-star property. With all three properties on line, this will bring their total room count to 975 units. SOLIS THE PALMYRA RESORT & SPA, ROSE HALL This new development has set its opening date for March 2009, and will be the brand’s premier resort in the Caribbean. The Palmyra will offer 299 guest rooms plus one-, two-, three- and four- bedroom suites, penthouses and private villas. The property features a 30,000 square-foot ESPA spa, an ocean-view fitness center and access to three of the Caribbean’s finest golf courses at close proximity. COUPLES TOWER ISLE Formerly known as Couples Ocho Rios, Couples Tower Isle has set re-opening date for March 2009. (The property was renamed in deference to a historical reference to its earlier beginnings.) The hotel closed its doors last year spring for extensive renovation and will re-open with the addition of 20 new units bringing total room count to 226. ROSE HALL RESORT & SPA, A Hilton Resort Now a Hilton resort, this property recently underwent major renovation in its main lobby area and all guest rooms. It has easy access to a championship golf course, Cinnamon Hill, and only 15 minutes by car from the Montego Bay airport. BREEZES RUNAWAY BAY GOLF RESORT & SPA Another property that has recently seen a major renovation in its guest rooms and landscaping is this SuperClubs property, Breezes Runaway Bay Golf Resort & Spa. New facilities include an authentic Jamaican restaurant which serves up our favorite national dishes such as ackee and saltfish, breadfruit, patties, escoveitch fish, pumpkin soup and, of course, our famous jerk varieties in chicken, pork or fish, on its hearty menu.

For the amount of money they charge and the all of the restrictions placed, I expect more from the planners and the resort. I know we all have many of the same questions, so why not have the FAQ's addressed when you book the wedding? That would save them a lot of repeat inquiries if they would just state the policies and prices up front. I completely understand about getting answers to questions answered as it's an issue with almost all of the RM & Cancun companies! Actually in a lot of the Caribbean as well, I am working with a tour excursion company in Jamaica right now that it's like pulling teeth to get a price from for an excursion! Some things I've found that has helped me: asking just one question per email - sometimes asking a question in a different way and I found if you can include photo's of exactly what you need or are asking for helps alot! Please keep in mind that if you were to do a wedding at a resort that did not have a WC on hand and you needed to hire one and also purchase all of the features for a basic wedding you would be paying a tremendous amount more than you are at karisma/Lomas. Just poke around the forum- I saw a few posts in the Cabo & Puerto Vallarta forums that had huge price tags fior a pretty basic weddings with an offsite WC! Pricing - to provide the price for every variable is impossible! When I was speaking to different WC's both in Mexico (not Azuls but I think it's standard across the board) and WC's at home in the states, about pricing & packages they told me that quite often the pricing for special order items depends on the entire wedding package purchased. Say a bride is adding a lot of special order items and has a wedding of 180 people. The WC's can negotiate a greater discount for that bride with their suppliers. If a bride is going with the free wedding package and only purchasing a few upgrades for a smaller wedding group- say 30 people- their just isn't the wiggle room to negotiate as much of a discount. So if they post the price for every single variable the informastion provided would probably be as large as a dictionary to print off. Then to also have to keep up with market flucuations to keep the information accurate would require hiring additional staff and thus increase the prices of the weddings! Nobody wants the prices to increase! I know it's frustrating as you need the prices to plan your budgets and to be sure that you can achieve your vision for your wedding. Just keep in mind that it's not just Lomas/Karisma but this way with many of the DW resorts and the more personalization you require the more patience it will also! We're really lucky in that Faith is willing to work with BDW to get the questions answered as best she can in a general sense- they really do want to make the process smooth and the weddings wonderful!

Also I am flying over from scotland, will i just book my flowers, evening reception etc when I get there or do I need to do it all before I go? I was kind of hoping I would just to do it once I arrived there....thats one of the reasons why I am doing it abroad so someone else can arrange all of these details for me and I just pick what I want when I get there!!! Thanks You should be able to pick most things when you get there- just be pretty flexible as things like the flowers may be limited to what their florist has available! If you have something specific in mind for the flowers i would do it prior- probably at least 30-45 days. Also if you want a color other than white for chair covers or bows- I'd recommend doing it prior- if you are happy with white you should be fine doing it when you are there! The wedding and reception location can easily be picked once there ! The deluxe rooms are nice, they look like your standard hotel rooms!

I too was initially under the impression that it was walkable to town but after my site visit I would say you would be better off taking a taxi and I certainly would not walk it at night. Perhaps along the beach the walk would be shorter? From the spec room i saw - it is an amazing property! very chic but yet comfortable!
  14. I think the Beach Canopy is the poles with the fabric on the beach and the Gazebo is like the Gazebo pics we've seen from the El Dorados, not right on the beach. Actually El Dorado Royale does have a gazebo right on the beach as does El Dorado Seaside. I don't recall seeing one for El Dorado Maroma though! When I was there at Sensatori they were still building the palapas and I didn't see any construction in the works for a gazebo. However as quickly as they've been moving since I was there it may not be too long before we get some photo's! They are both impossible to get answers from!! It get's old really quickly, thank goodness for all the info on here. Between 40 of us, we still can't get enough answers. Please keep in mind that Sensatori is brand new and with anything that is, it takes time to work out all of the kinks and to be able to work out all of the variables! Plus Sensatori has been immensely popular- they have more weddings booked prior to opening than any other resort in the RM! I don't think that anyone could have predicted how popular it would be! Now add that there are over 40 brides on this forum alone booked, probably at least another 100 inquiries a week for new weddings and having to assist with the Dreams Tulum fiasco.......that's a lot of emails to wade through and quotes to provide on a daily basis! For any special request they then have to go to their suppliers and negotiate a rate- all of that takes time. Some resorts will not deviate at all from their wedding packages~ Karisma and Lomas is willing to go that extra mile for their brides! But to do that will take time- and yes sometimes weeks (don't forget that their suppliers may not feel any rush to get back with a quote back to Karisma/Lomas!) Did you'all read the answers from Faith? She does the same thing, Nancy and Fabio does....only answers the parts of the questions she wants to. Ericka- I thought that Faith did a great job in answering the questions! She was very straight forward. No, she could not provide some very specific answers on pricing but as she pointed out it really depended on exactly what the bride wanted and time of year- and to do that they need to work directly with their TA and the WC at Karisma. There are so many variables to some of the questions- like with the chair bows, fabric , color, amount needed- how could she possibly have provided an answer that would have covered all the possibilities? There must be over a thousand variables! I did see that she missed the one about how many WC's are onsite at each property so I'll ask again! Again- I am checking on the beach butlers and when they will be in service at Sensatori! But yes, at the Casitas for El Dorado Royale and at El Dorado Maroma- they call them Beach Butlers and when I did my sites I saw those poor guys out there waiting on people with a smile! At Azul Beach they offer very similiar - they may be exactly the same services- but for some reason call them beach waiters.
  15. Quote: Originally Posted by Ania Thank you Jennifer for answering these! Could you let me know which bouquet cost is covered in Silver/ or Gold, because I think with a better break down (if I'd like that bouquet to be more personalized, and let's say it's orchids), I can start getting a better grasp of the budget if I need to add more money to it. " For the bouquets - just as with any florist, whether at home or at the resort -what is included in the bouquets will depend on time of year and availability. That is one of the reasons they wait till it gets closer to finalize the details. They also (just like florists at home) can give general details but if a particular flower has a bad growing season (too wet/cold/dry) they may not be able to include it. Plus if they look crappy you wouldn't want them to include it ! That also goes for quoting the special request flowers- they can provide a general price but if something happens ion the market that price can flucuate tremendously. The beach butlers - I am not sure what is going on but I am working on finding out! Faith specializes more in the weddings aspect so I am going to ask the GM of Azul sensatori about the Beach Butlers. I know at Azul Beach they are called beach waiters but offer the services described. I'll try to get an answer before the end of next week.

The little touches at this property made all of the difference! Great beach, great ambiance and amazing service. Highly recommend for those with little ones- they even provide babies with their own Azul bathrobe! Azul Sensatori El Dorado Royale- gets the vote for best Beach chapel. Also best service! Anything you requested was greeted with a smile and taken care of! The grounds while large were impressive in their beauty and how well maintained they were! The rooms were quite large and the beds were sooo very comfortable! I hated to leave this property! Riu Palace Mexico Royal In Playa- again one of my favorites. it's the little touches, great beach, rooms, eats, wedding packages that are flexible, spa and the close proximity to 5th ave make it a sure winner! Iberostar Paraiso Complex ( Lindo , Maya, Grand ) Excellence Riviera Cancun- One of my favorites, very liberal outside vendor policy and they have an stunning beach, spa and of course grounds. I vote this one of the top Beach wedding sites- private & beautiful ! Moon Palace Valentin Imperial Maya - this was a hidden gem of a resort! This gets my vote for the best Chapel. I don't know if pictures will do it justice but it took my breathe away! This also gets my vote for the most romantic honeymoon suite in the Riviera Maya- maybe the world! The understated Wow factor here is evident in every nook and cranny. The entire resort just oozes romance and physical beauty. Secrets Silversand- Southbeach meets Mexico! Modern, hip and trendy this resort was made for those sporting logo'ed swim wear during the day and lounging at the bars at night! Maromar Secrets Maromar- we had a quick visit here but I don't think that you will be disappointed. Expect a few hiccups as the resort just opened and it usually takes at least 3 months to get everything ironed out. the rooms are beautiful, the lobby and restaurants are beautiful and it's located on Maroma beach! Ceiba del Mar-I really liked the Ceiba del Mar- it was a beautiful property that really embraced you in Mexican charm with all of the modern amenities to make you very comfortable! The beach and pool area were serene with plenty of space for everyone and just breathtaking! I also loved the rooms- again very charming but modern. there are a couple of room categories that were amazingly romantic! Overall the property is a quiet oasis. I just felt relaxed and rejuvenated and that was just doing a site visit! Sun Palace Royal In Cancun Excellence Playa Mujures- beautiful! The staff is eager to please, rooms are beautiful and make sure you use the spa- it's breathtaking! Secrets Maroma- we had a quick visit here but I don't think that you will be disappointed. Expect a few hiccups as the resort just opened and it usually takes at least 3 months to get everything ironed out. the rooms are beautiful, the lobby and restaurants are beautiful and it's located on Maroma beach! That's it for tonight- as I get a free moment here and there I'll try to fill in and expand the rest!

This makes no sense to me. It seems like they are trying to make sure they get all the commission by forcing us to book through them. the answer is two fold- It's not so much about commission as it is about liability. If the other TA touches that booking in any way and something goes wrong then that TA may become liable. Unfortunately courts have found TA's liable if they do anything or offer advice to a client that has booked elsewhere, even as simple as asking for it to be considered part of the group. In addition when your guest made a booking with another source they ( whether it's an internet TA or a "live" Ta ) made a contract with that Travel agency. One travel agency can not make requests or amendments to another travel agency's bookings.
  18. Here are the answers to the questions! Hello Faith! I wanted to thank you for taking the time to answer questions during the webinar on Sunday November 2, 2008. The brides were very excited and pleased to have you join us! They do have additional questions for you- would you mind answering ? They are : This first question I asked again, because you guys have been saying that they only have two weddings a day a few hours apart. When my wedding was set for the same exact time on the same exact day as one of the brides on here. I am starting to get a little annoyed with this resort...I switched my time and delayed it one hour in hopes that it helps. I’m pretty sure this was due to an unusual circumstance. It’s not common practice for us to ever book two weddings at the same time. How many weddings do you hold in one day, and how many onsite WC's do you have to ensure that each bride feels like they are the only ones having a wedding that day? This varies by hotel; Azul Beach-1, Azul Sensatori -2, Azul Fives -2, El Dorado Maroma – 1, El Dorado Seaside Suites -2, El Dorado Royale – more than 2 but it depends on the size of each group. What is the new bridal suite, and if you have more than one bride getting married on the same day how do you ensure that all parties have access to this particular suite? The new bridal suite is a room within the spa at the El Dorado Royale and the Azul Sensatori. We cannot guarantee that it is available for all parties just as we cannot guarantee that all parties would want it. We have sufficient spa facilities to accommodate the spa and salon wedding services. The bridal suite is an added amenity. What is the time frame for Lomas to send a quote on a custom table set up not offered on their website? They need to request the quote from the outside vendors if it’s a special request. We try to turn them around as quickly as possible but rely on the vendors information in order to sufficiently quote the request. What are the chair choices for ceremony, and reception and cost? Without cover - $9, With cover and bow - $12 (ie: chiavari, wooden, ect…) wooden is considered without cover. Chiavari is considered a special request and is price quoted at that time. How much is it per bow for the chairs? Can we have them premade and bring them with us, and how much would it cost for you to add them? The bows run around $5 each but it depends on the actual request. We have some requests for a very specific material and/or color and sometimes they are actually made to order for the event. If you bring them, the service charge to add them runs around $3 per bow. Is there a DJ at the hotel that would speak English? Yes, the DJ’s speak English but it should be requested at the time of booking. I read somewhere that they guest could not take a piece of cake back to their room with them. This is one thing that I really wanted to do and have boxes already made for it. If we paid for the cost of the cake and it is all inclusive why is there this policy? Food and beverage is not allowed to leave the premises of the event. This includes bringing it back to the room or moving it from one location to another. Is it possible to have a canopy for the reception on the beach as well as the one for the ceremony? Yes, tents are rented all the time. The cost is dependent on the size and prices should be requested thru the personal wedding coordinator. Where can you find the linen color choices for the tables, and canopies? Anything other than white is a special request and again, just about anything is possible. It’s quoted after the request is made. How far in advance can you reserve your location for ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception? This varies by hotel and needs to be asked directly of the personal wedding coordinator. Time of year is a factor as is time of day etc. Have any of you received any information on the "complimentary wedding website" which is part of the packages? The information is located on our website under the wedding section, then bridal registry. In the middle of the page in a big blue box it says “Wedding Couples start here, Create a Honeymoon Registry or Wedding Website. Here is the link Karisma Resorts Honeymoon Registry - Honeymoon Registry where your wedding gift is a Romantic Honeymoon The silver package states,"Decoration of wedding location including wooden plank aisle runner, chairs for 12 people and table with white linen".... So everything else costs extra? Yes Like the gazebo or archway? If it is not part of the existing location. I guess I assumed those were included since I always see them in pics..Yes, if it’s a gazebo at the resort already there is no charge to use it. If it is a decorative item that needs to be built there is a charge. I realize the resort had a late opening.....but they shouldn't specify in all their catalogs & website about the Beach Butlers if they don't deliver. I posted it on my wedding website and have been telling all my family and friends. And I know people on Trip Advisor have been talking about the Butlers as well. What hotel are they referring to? Beach Butler service is available El Dorado Casitas and El Dorado Maroma. Beach waiter service is available at all hotels. It's suppose to a part of the Sky Deck wedding package too (white gloved service). That extra $1700 has to be going somewhere.....White glove service is part of the Sky Wedding Package. This has nothing to do with beach butler service or beach waiters. Faith was great at answering questions, I wish the other wedding coordinators were that straightforward. It's like speaking in circles with the other two. Wow, we need to fix this. Who are they referring to? Nancy and Fabio? There you are ! We have also set up a schedule to do webinars with Karisma the first Sunday of each month for February - May at 7pm est. January may be the second Sunday- i'll post the details when janiary is all worked me!
