It didnt happen but its okay our wedding was great at Las Caletas. Yeah - we are going to call the Sam's headquarters. I considered cupcakes, but came back to realize that once again, I would be settling for something I didn't want - and as much as I like the idea of cupcakes, IMHO I can save those for the kids' b-day parties. We'll get it figured out. Mora gave us some great contacts for other bakeries as well.

HI, I'm not sure about in the Riviera Maya, but we were in Puerto Vallarta in November for our site visit/vacation and we had our two kids ages 2 and 9 with us. Our 2 year old did not like the milk. He drank some, but really didn't want it. We bought our milk at the Walmart and in restaurants however he didn't drink nearly as much as he does at home. My daughter said the milk tasted different. I'm not sure if it was the heat or what, but we gave him ice cream when we could to help out with the lack of milk. He at a lot of fruit and drank bottled water as well. He just didn't care for the milk. I hope this helps!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! My fiance's mom was going to call the Sam's Club for me (because she speaks some Spanish), however, with all of these numbers to choose from, I am going to set a date for my dad to come by and help me with this one. (He speaks much more fluent Spanish, and unfortunately I speak NONE!). This is awesome! I'm sure I will be able to find something. I went into the WalMart when we were ther and was so overwhelmed by the chaos in the store, that we didn't do too much looking around in the bakery. I didn't even think to check with the other supermarkets like Gigante. Thank you SO MUCH! Celina

In the end we've all got to keep in mind that this is something so very special to us and it IS our decision. Thank goodness for BDW is all I have to say!!!!! (I totally agree! Thank goodness for BDW!) I know it hurts that they aren't there, in the end it's their loss that they won't get out of the stone age. My family is the exact SAME WAY! We have given them over a years notice and still they won't commit to coming. They are the ones missing out. You guys will have a wonderful time. Maybe the group will be smaller, but it makes you kind of see where you stand with people. Focus on those that will be there because when those that do go come back and rave about what a beautiful time they had, the rest of them will be wishing they went. I totally feel your frustration. My fiance's childhood friends have all told him they couldn't come. The majority of my dad's family aren't coming. My mother died when I was little, so only her 1 living sister is coming. (that alone is a blessing for me). It will be okay. Sleep on it and try not to react. I know it's easier said than done, I'm going through the same thing.

Thanks guys. I think I will call the corporate office. That's a good idea! I checked the Sam's clubs here and they do wedding cakes. I always envisioned something like a lemon cake with raspberry filling, or something just yummy and beautiful. Something other than vanilla, chocolate or almond. The only suggestion our W/C at RIU Vallarta had was Pie in the Sky. I think culturally it just isn't as big of a deal there as it is here to have a beautiful wedding cake. Maybe I'm just a cake person...who knows! I am so sad about this. What do other people do? At Las Caletas, don't they make the cakes there?Tomorrow I am calling Sam's Club! Thanks guys, I'll let you know what they say.

When anyone was in PV, has anyone been into the Sam's Club? We were there and didn't go in and now I am kicking myself in the butt for it. This is my dilema: While in PV, we went to Pie in the Sky bakery to check on wedding cakes. They quoted us a price of $300 for a 3 tier cake to feed 30-40 people. That's $10 - $7.50 per piece of cake. Our choices of cake flavors were almond, vanilla and chocolate with buttercream frosting. For $300 I would like to have a different kind of cake flavor. Maybe a filling or something. I just wasn't over the moon with the cake there and was wondering if good old Sam's club in PV did cakes. I looked on their website and couldn't find anything. I guess as a little girl I just had this vision of a beautiful 3 tier wedding cake with flowers and a topper. But for $300 for a cake I don't like the tast of just makes me mad. Thanks! Celina

We are just having the mariachi's play when we make our entrance at the dinner reception.

I love the vase! On our site visit we brought back some sand, and I didnt realize until afterwards that you aren't supposed to bring back soil. We just but it in an empty Gatorade bottle and closed it up.

We are having one at our reception and it is costing anywhere from $300 to $500 depending on the size. The cost is for three hours.

My first suggestion would be to get passports, pick out a place, and enjoy the whole experience! Everyone here is SO helpful! I am actually getting married in November and believe me, it seems like it is going to creep up on us sooner than we think! Be prepared about "Mexico Time". You will realize that the folks in Mexico move and respond in a much slower pace than most of us are used to. Best wishes and congratulations!

Beach Pail for Flower Girl?
Celina replied to ncainey's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
At Oriental Trading they have three square galvanized buckets that say Love and Joy on them. You could easily use those and later use them with a tea light for decoration. -
Hi, We are getting married at the RIU Vallarta. We are having our dinner at the resort, (which is included in everyone's cost) and are renting out the pool bar which has a patio area that is covered by a pergola. There are chairs and tables, and we rented out the sound system as well. We are going to do all of our dances, cake cutting, etc. there so that we still have some privacy. Our WC said we could reserve a section of the restaurant for our party while we had dinner so that everyone could eat together. The pool bar is closed to the public in the evening, so we are renting it out for our private party. Good luck! Celina

That is awesome! I was so overwhelmed with our kids, luggage and then the time share people, we had to actually go outside so I could collect my bearings before we got our taxi! We went through Apple Vacations and we didn't know who to look for because we had already paid for our transportation to the hotel. That is awesome to know that RIU provides shuttle service. It's even easier for our guests and they dont' have to worry about dealing with the taxi's. If you aren't a seasoned traveler, it can be very overwhelming! Thanks! Celina

Yes, we have some pics of both hotels. However with the holidays and stuff, we haven't had them developed. As soon as I do, I'll try to get them posted. Both hotels are charming. I fell in love with the gazebo at Jalisco. My fiance loved the art deco look at Vallarta. From everything I've read, both hotels are big on service.

Airport/Taxi's/Customs

Oh geez, I caught this one too late to give you any advice. Have a wonderful time at RIU! The RIU Jalisco is beautiful! Congratulations on your wedding! Enjoy yourselves! -

Where were the shuttles and who do we look for in terms of the type of shuttle. Does anyone know TY Ahead of Time I can't speak for either of the RIU hotels as we only toured them and didn't stay there, but we did stay in Nuevo Vallarta and took a taxi to the airport. The ride there was maybe $10 I think. The taxi's leaving the airport are more expensive. They are a different company and charge more. It has to do with the taxi companies. We were told that there are three companies in PV. One is for Nuevo Vallarta (they are white), threre are ones from downtown (they are yellow) and there are some at the airport. (not sure what color). The white ones can only take you into town. The yellow ones can only bring you back. It is a territorial thing I guess. At the hotels all you do is tell the bellman you need a taxi. They radio them, and within minutes they are there. The taxi's are readily available at the hotels in Nuevo Vallarta. Of course you always pay more if you are a large group. Hope that helps! Celina
