  1. I agree with the STD plan-- I sent out my save the dates in august - 10 months before the wedding, and sent out my invitations in Jan-4 months before wedding.... If people know the resort- they can kinda get an approx of how much trip will cost. From my own personal experience- everyone talked about going, many people said they were coming when the STDs went out in August- no one actually booked until like Jan/Feb!!! (wedding is in May)...

  2. We are having a 3 tier cake -- I just picked the picture off the internet and sent it to Valeria and they are duplicating.. here's a pix..

I mentioned on a post somewhere that we requested to have it red velvet flavored--- they are charging us an extra $100 for it to be red velvet -which is a little extreme, I think- but I already had my heart set on it-- and it was a random, kinda "bridezilla" request, so I'm not going to complain too much.... I am done with my decisions (and paying! :)-- hopefully, I can just semi-relax until the wedding!!!!

For my private dinner on the beach, the next night, I'm using the hanging corsages that will be used on the gazebo of our ceremony---- as centerpieces....
  4. My sister and I both have hair appts at the spa on the resort-- and I'm planning on going to Sephora and getting them to do my makeup, writing it down in very detailed instructions, and I'll buy what they use; however, I'm determined to tell them up-front that my "makeup budget" is $50-60- so we'll see how that goes!

I'm a bit of a tomboy -so I normally wear just foundation and mascara- so I def need a litttle help!

  5. Hey guys- I got an interesting email from Cancun Studios-- who I'm using for my wedding at EDR in May. Thought I'd pass information along...

    Shannon,

We have been receiving emails from many brides who are encountering the same problem with the new policies for outside photographers at El Dorado Royale. The hotel is taking advantage of their clients by using unethical business procedures to lure them into using on-site vendors. Our company has been researching a solution to this abuse however, it must be a cooperative intent from all those affected.

There is a department in the government called Profeco. This department works very much like the Better Business Bureau in the U.S. protecting the consumer.

You may want to try sending a complaint letter using the pre-requisites stated below. I will be passing this information onto many other brides so we can all work

    together to fight this injustice.

If you feel like you need color, I can't encourage you enough to use a self tanner, or go to a salon and use a spray tan. I have several very fair-skinned friends that swear by the Jergens tanning lotions.

Sunscreen is your friend! My derm tells me that a 20 is the lowest anyone should wear - anything less and you're fooling yourself into thinking you're protected.

Be safe my BDW buddies! We like having you around!
Thanks for tip about Jergens- I wondered if it worked... :)

From what I can tell the dessert event is now $9.00/person and the fondue is now $24.00/person.
Also, Shannon I have a question about the private dinner on the beach for you and your guests, where did you find pricing info for this? I think it is nice gesture and am considering it as well.

    Thank you,
    Jennifer
Hi Jennifer -The chocolate fountain party is $14/person -it's a choc fountain with fresh fruit and breads. I'm adding on the open bar for 2 hours for $8/person- so it will be $22 person total... - I'm doing this at Tucanes. I'm also buying a cake and having the cake cutting at this reception...

You can do a private dinner with a min of 3 "entrees"-- we picked a salad, the angus steak with lobster sauce entree, and the apple pie for dessert- I believe it ended up being $47/person total. I think you could have chosen soup as a entree, or an appetizer as an entree, etc- those are all on the event kit 2008 sheet...

This pricing includes tables/chairs setup, as well as waiters, drinks, etc (like you would at one of the restaurants). I told Valeria we wanted to have it on the beach, so she gave us the white gazebo location... Since the chairs are included in the pricing- it was only $6/chair to have the white linens and colored bows. (we are paying $13/chair for the choc fountain party bc the chairs aren't included- so we have to pay for the actual chair rental AND decoration). We are adding tiki torches and beach candles....

    Hope this helps!
  8. Hey guys-- this thread might be a little depressing, but thought it would be important to post. I have an olive tint to my skin and tan "easily" - I grew up at the pool- lifeguarded throughout HS, etc. Tanning has always been a pretty big part of my summer and I look forward to having a tan, and how it makes me feel skinnier :) and prettier... I got this article from my sister-- and it really hit home for me... I wanted to pass along-- Please be careful with sun exposure!
