  3. First I want to apologize. I was suppose to post these questions on Friday. However, I had a family tragedy and my Grandma passed and her funeral was Friday. Then the apartment next door burned down and we've been dealing with smoke and water problems. Then my husbands graduation was Saturday and family didn't leave till Sunday. So I'm sorry these are a bit late. Also if you want to PM me with a new book suggestion we can go ahead and pick the next book as well. I guess first tell me if you liked the book and any thoughts on it. Then if you feel like answering any of the below questions. 1. How familiar were you with the civil wars of Sierra Leone prior to reading A Long Way Gone? How has Ishmael’s story changed your perception of this history, and of current wars in general? 2. What universal truths does Ishmael teach us about surviving loss and hunger, and overcoming isolation? 3. Ishmael gives credit to relief workers such as Esther, in conjunction with organizations such as UNICEF, for rescuing him. He has dedicated his life to their cause, studying political science and speaking before a broad variety of groups, ranging from the Council on Foreign Relations to the Center for Emerging Threats and Opportunities at the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory. What steps has he inspired you to take to help end the use of child soldiers? How can each of us join Ishmael’s cause? Those are just a few questions to help discuss this book. This is one of my favorite books. I've read quite a few about this subject. I have a story along these lines. I joined the orginization Save Darfur. One day I was wearing the shirt and on the front it said "Save Darfur". My bosses were having some flooring delivered and I had to meet the truck. Well the trucker is having me sign stuff and he says, "Save Darfur huh." "Thats in Africa right?" I said yes. He said, "Why should I care about them, what have they done for us." I stood silent for a moment kinda in shock. Then I said you don't HAVE to do anything. But I feel as a human being I have a moral obligation to help my fellow man. You say this now about them what happens one day when YOU need help and someone says why should I help him he did nothing for me. We as Americans sometimes feel we are invincible. We have so much wealth and wordly things. Why shouldn't we help others. Reading this book made me realize part of that. There are others before it too. Even reading this book and telling others about it is bringing the subject up to be spoke about. Child soldiers is absolutely horrible. Our children at that age are worrying about school and crushes and their ipods or nintendos and children all over the world are worrying whether they live another day. It's truly sad. Ok, enough from me. How did you guys enjoy the book??
  4. My grandmother passed on tuesday so I know how you feel. I'm still crying. If you need to talk let me know. I'm sorry for your loss
  5. mine was past 30 days due to miscommunication. You'll be fine.
  6. I also saw this a few years ago minus the "alabama school district". I grew up in AL. and take offense that people put that and put that stereotype of stupidity label on everyone from AL. or the south. So sorry I didn't laugh.
  7. Abby...Wait I thought they were your niece and nephew...or are they your stepkids? I'm now confused. Oh also I have none of my own but I have 3 nieces and 2 nephews. Heres a cute pic of one of them at my AHR. She calls me a Princess b/c one day we told her I'd found my Prince. So now she calls me and DH Prince and Princess.
  8. Whoa Abbs I saw that and was like " SHE HAS KIDS? I didn't see the message below it. Hahha freak out.
  9. We went out on the water on our wedding day and hung by the pool. I just wore my moisturizer on my face and my bare minerals has sunscreen and thats it. I did some somescreen (dont remember the SPF). But I didn't wear it down to the wedding. Didn't want to be greasy and I didn't care if I burned and it showed up AFTER. haha. My dad though stupidly laid by the pool the whole day before our wedding day. We told him to wear sunscreen. But he said "There's clouds." Idiot. That is why he is red in all our pics.
  10. Actually Abby they put them on a thing with straps and buckle them down..to circumcise that is. This is a huge add to the list on why I'm having a home water birth!!!! I'm not waiting to hold my baby. And it's not leaving my side either. Hahaha.
  11. When I tried on my dress it was a ivory color. It looked white and it was pretty. But I got scared of not having a white dress and regretting it. So I ordered it in white white. Thank God it looked good when I finally got it and I'm glad I did.
  12. I did not have a bridal party either. It was just 4 parents and DH's cousin. We had our rings in a shell holder thing and the cousin held it and when we needed the rings he just walked them up to the judge. I liked how simple and no stress it was. And as for witnesses I had one set of parents do it. My dad walked me down the aisle. And mom's did sand so everyone had a part in the wedding.
  13. Morgan you have to be the biggest lifesaver. Vimeo worked GREAT!!! I posted them in wedding pics and Jamaica but the Jamaica post disappeared so I am guessing mod merged them. Thank you sooo much!!!
  14. Ok I know this took 4 months. But I finally got our wedding slideshow together. Man I wish I had a photog who made one for me. Hahah! Anyways it's pics of our whole vacation. So theres pics of Jamaica and the resort (for Riu girls) and then all of our wedding photos. Just a warning it's 15 minutes but it has kick ass music! I hope you watch. You can click the link or click on my blog!! Our Wedding Pictures
  15. Ok no worries I got it. I'm posting it in Jamaica and wedding photos! Go check it out!
  16. Morgan does vimeo have a time limit. I made it again in windows movie maker but its 15 minutes long. You tube and phptobucket have 10 minute limits. Where can I upload where everyone can see?
  17. Ok I have cursed and yelled for more than 12 hours trying to get my pictures in a slideshow. I was using this program called Video something and everytime I add a picture it shuts down. I just want to make a slideshow with my OWN music. Photobucket has a pic limit and only lets you use their music. Does anyone know of an easy way to do this so I can share my pics finally
  18. Up YET? I haven't gone to bed. I'm doing my picture slideshow I promised MONTHS AGO!! I've been so busy. I had to gather all pictures and certain family members didn't want to hand them over. Then my computer threatened to break down and I had to move all pictures. Then I couldn't find a website that would let me do a slideshow with my own music. So finally tonight I put pics I hadn't even seen yet since our wedding (4 months) from our camera. Then I was halfway down and my computer froze and I lost everything. So I started over. I started at 11:30 and it is now 8:18. So hopefully I'll be done soon and you guys can finally see them! So yeah I'm totally UP with you . I totally need a redbull!!!!!
  19. We got engaged in April didn't start planning till July and got married in December. So yes it can be done. I started stressing and googled Destination weddings and got this site. And everyone said I could do it! So you can. It'll be fine!

He'll ask if I peed and I'll just say yes.
  21. My miracle would be that I could finally be pregnant! I'm tired of taking pregnancy tests and knowing its negative and crying and making my husband cry. Either that or having enough money to make it to Africa to adopt.
  22. Aww..I hope everyones reading it. that'd make me sad. theres still a week left. 2 weekends left!!!
  23. I didnt get breakfast in bed. We got a couple of gifts. We got a bottle of rum and a tray of fruit and cheese and snacks. We got a basket full of like cards and things like that. We got flowers. Oh and shotglasses. I can't remember what else.
  24. I was married in December and I can't remember what hurricane it was but we watched on the news as each storm passed there. Thank God it was minimal damage and everything was fine!! We were a nervous wreck but it was all fine.
